No, but Spieth > Rory. Maybe now that there is a young(er) hotshot, Rory will get his **** together and start playing the way he's capable. I was so excited about 2013 golf and seeing Rory just crush everyone.

Glad I went with the dual record CBS/Golf Channel when I left for dinner after regulation ended.

What a great win. Not pretty by any stretch, he probably played the worst of anyone in the playoff, but huge implications. 11th in FedEx points, jumped 30 spots in Presidents Cup standings. BO invite. Very happy for the kid.

I still dont think alot of people realize how good this kid is. Had friends at 16 that played with him say he was just incredible. Would not surprise me if he wins again this year. The consistency in his game at this age is pretty unbelievable. Spieth GOAT

Has a temper though and needs to get that in control but at 19 pretty amazing and looked so calm in the playoff

Spieth GOAT indeed.

How much does these guys pay in taxes assuming they win $1,000,000 and they have a company?

This is a pretty big issue as his life has now changed in a massive way. He will now have so many demands, sponsor arrangements and money the nice kid may be a dream of the past,

Equipment change killed him this year imo. But, I see your Rory disgruntledness. Not sure competition is what he needs to break out of it. Maybe jealousy of the spotlight will work.

Depends on a whole lot of factors but with the year mr spieth is having he'll end up in the top bracket in the us; so ~39%. Plus self-employment tax.

He'll also pay state tax in each of the states in which he won money.

How do we like Tiger at 10:1?

Seems pretty good. I think if he played this exact event 11 times he probably binks 1 or more wins.

I have invested large in the bank of Tiger this week. Last years game plan with this years largely improved putting means a super chance imo

Phil is too out of shape to play well two weeks in a row. Tiger at 10:1 is easy money.

I also bet on Horschel e/w at 125/1, 8 places for a place... 32.25/1 for a top 8 finish, man I like that a LOT. OK obviously no Open record, may struggle but should be firm greens like Merion, Billy showed he can handle that sort of thing, 18 GIR in 2nd round, tied for 4th there, lots of good play this year, been a winner, doubt he can win an Open first time trying, but a place not crazy unrealistic if the conditions stay the same. Those are my two bets. Go Tiger and go Billy

Looks as though the punters are stepping up early and often this week. Some thoughts that Tiger backers don't realize....

St. Andrews is a totally different animal than the rest of the rota, it's a bombers paradise where you can drive it as far left as you want. A place where Tiger has two of his three Open Championships, meaning he's only won once over the rest of the rota.

There are many factors in the Open Championship that level the playing field. Crazy rough, weather, bunkers where everybody is blasting out sideways. The best player tends to win less at this major than at the other three.

Tiger has not won a major for over 5 years, that's a long long time. Impossible not to have some sort of a mental block after that long. Sure he's been playing great most of the last year, but that means next to nothing when it comes to golf's oldest major.

To continue backing the odds on favorite when he hasn't performed in over 5 years is simply lighting money on fire. If he eventually breaks through, that is the time to start backing him. But not until. Doesn't matter what the odds are if he can't win.

Tiger would have won The Open last year for me if his approach was 1 yard further and missed the bunker on hole 6, that triple was a complete killer, horrible break how it ended up. He also made very little over the 4 days, putting much better now. Happy with 10/1 thanks, not quite 12/1 at Doral earlier in the year but still fine for the GOAT

And the weather forecast seems to be perfect for Tiger at this stage, though too early to know for sure obviously.

Ha! We don't need no stinkin' bookies to have a good sweat!

The problem is, neither of us know exactly if and when that breakthrough will come. But until then, I'm betting against Tiger each and every major.

Your post was actually not bad (pointing out the high variance of the Open) until here. At this point you informed everybody that you don't understand the fundamental concept of sports betting.

By this logic, whoever bet money on Jordan Spieth last Thursday was lighting money on fire. Whoever bet on Horschel, Streelman, Ken Duke, etc. prior to their wins this year was lighting money on fire. Whoever bet on Ted Potter Jr. at the Greenbriar last year should have sooner taken that money, rolled it into a ball, laminated it, and shoved it up their ass. Because in both cases the money disappears, but in the latter case, there's a non-zero chance it feels good disappearing. Players cannot win until they can win. Sick circular logic. Especially when applied to a guy who has won more than anyone not named Snead.
