I had family that died during the famine so in future please watch what you say.

I reported the original post and gave my reasons for doing so. It's in the mods hands now.

Let's all throw insults at each other's ancestors and cry about it. We all knew them so well and it hurts.

Br0s,

Enough about the Tiger/Sergio nonsense. Regardless of what Sergio meant when he said it, the comment had racist implications. Getting into a USA/Europe battle is pretty fruitless and doesn't add anything at this point, so I'd suggest we all just move on.

So I am playing golf today and on the 3rd hole (195 yard par 3), the foursome ahead waves me through. I hit a nice shot but it hooked a little too much and left a 20 yard bunker shot with little to no green to work with. Drive up to the green and of course it's PGA Tour pro Johnson Wagner and his goofy mustache. So now I have 4 guys, one of them being a PGA tour pro, all standing around the pin about equidistant watching me hit a tough bunker shot. My sand game is probably by far the weakest part of my game on average.

Hit it to 2 feet.

Solid brag. Pics or it obviously never happened.

Maybe this is why you posted:

Today one of the golf channel announcers said that Spieth is the best young golfer he has seen in the past 20 years.

Without even thinking for more than 5 seconds, I am positive that Tiger, Phil, Rory, Sergio and probably a dozen more are/were considered far greater young golfers than Spieth.

The kid is only 19. He already has a T2 this year. If he wins this year he's off to a better start than all of them.

He also took T16 at the Byron Nelson in 2010 when he was only 16.

it was gimmied back to me. I probably would have missed it. I was pretty sure I was going to blade it into Johnson Wagner's shins though, so missing embarrassingly short putts was the worst of my worries. Also, it was death seeing that it was him, then thinking "oh god damnit, I sure hope my ball stayed on the green" and then the sinking feeling of seeing it right in the middle of the bunker.

Hmm Jordan Spieth is awesome, but that's a tough argument. Sergio won at age 19 on the Euro Tour, finished 2nd at the PGA to Tiger at 19, won twice on tour at age 21.

Mickelson won a tournament as an amateur.

Tiger won 3 consecutive amateur tournaments, turned pro in August 1996, had won twice by October 1996, won the Masters at age 22 (and also became the #1 player on the world) and the US Open at age 24.

Rory McIlroy turned pro at 18 and by the time he was 20 he was ranked in the top 10 in the world and had a number of top 3s and at least one win. Now, at age 24, he has 11 wins and 2 majors, and is ranked #2 in the world and was #1 for a good long while.

One win for Spieth will not put him in these guys ranks. A win coupled with success in majors, plus consistent play and a move up the rankings will. Don't get me wrong, I think the guy is really awesome, he's just got a long way to go until he is mentioned with those others.

I think you've got my Tiger hate pegged appropriately, but I think you miscomprehended my view of the fried chicken comment.

POKEROMGLOL already responded but if anyone thinks that Spieth is a better young golfer than Tiger, Phil, Rory, or Sergio was, they are either too young or don't remember very well (and this is not a knock on Spieth).

Tiger was ready for the tour (and I mean ready to contend) at least a year before he turned pro, probably two. When he did belatedly turn pro at age 20, Johnny Miller predicted that Tiger would win 8 majors and 40 tour titles (nearly everyone scoffed but Johnny was right, even underpredicting by a fair margin). At this time, of course, it is ludicrous to think that Spieth will have that type of career.

Phil was a 3-time collegiate player of the year and won a PGA tour event while in college. Sergio was a phenom on the European Tour and famously finished 2nd in the PGA at age 19. Rory was also precocious though probably not to the degree of these other three (of course he rocketed to number one in the world in short order).

And don't compare a T2 at the Puerto Rican Open with what these other guys did at comparable ages. Again, I am not knocking Spieth, just the ridiculous commentators who over-hype the current shiny new toy.

I certainly don't think that Speith has Tiger's credentials from when he was 19, but to be honest he isn't far behind. Again, he is 19 and actually went to a strong high school here in Dallas and did go to UT for a year and a half so he simply hasn't played as much golf as most the Euros mentioned ITT and didn't get national PGA exemptions like Tiger did by 19. However the few events he did play he did well and he did win 2 US Juniors as well as a ton of other big time amateur events.

My home course is a very hard par 71 with a stroke rating of 75.5. I am the only player besides Speith who has broken 67 on it since Keith Foster redesigned it in 2003. I had the course record at 67 then 66 and 65. When Jordan was 14 he played there with the kid I have referenced here a few times (Will Zalatoris) and shot 62. Quite a few of the other good players refused to count it as the course record since it was shot by a 14 year old and witnessed by a 12 year old and one non-member adult. Now I like to rag on those idiots by noting that the kid just might be pretty good.

Also, yes Jordan’s 2nd was in Puerto Rico, but don’t forget he has 2 other Tour top 10’s this year as well as a 7th and 4th on the Nationwide Tour this year. So in 12 Tour starts he has made 9 cuts with 5 top 10’s and another couple top 25’s. He also would be 63rd on the money list with limited starts. Pretty friggin’ impressive.

One of my clients sons, Kramer Hickok, was/is Jordan’s roommate in Austin and he has told me some of Jordan’s thought processes and they are very solid and impressive. I am not saying Jordan is going to be the next Tiger as I don’t think anyone will ever dominate quite like he has in an individual sport that is getting exponentially deeper every year. But, I do think he will be a constant on the Ryder Cup team and a top 20 in the world player for a long time.
