Quoted from wrx...pretty funny

I always had the idea that Johnny Miller was a bit full of himself, but in this month's issue of Golf Magazine, he made it official for me. Not sure if a lot of people have read the article yet, but he goes into detail about how he shot a 63 in the 1973 US Open. Some quotes:

"To say I drove the ball great during the final round of the 1973 US Open is an understatement."

"If Hogan was my caddie, he'd say 'Are you kidding me?'" (In reference to how good he was hitting it that day.)

After the tournament: "I was on cloud nine, but there was no private jet waiting for me."

"I had gone from one of the game's young lions to something more."

"I've seen a lot of good rounds, but from tee to green that was the best round I've ever seen, and it was mine."

And on an unrelated topic, Miller talks about how his ballstriking that week was great partly because he focused on extending his arms and "chasing the line" after impact. He then mentions that this particular thought was inspired by Hogan and Trevino, who chased the line "better and longer than anyone". What the hell is he smoking? Trevino and Hogan are the epitome of "swinging left", not "chasing the line".

Anyway, I'm sure to most of you Miller's douchiness isn't much of a revelation, but this sealed the deal for me. He's 23rd on the all time list for tour wins and has 2 lousy majors. But to hear him talk you'd think Bobby Jones couldn't carry his jock.

So sad to admit that I agree with a point that Brandel made on Live at the PLAYERS last night.

When talking about Sergio -- Brandel pointed out that we as fans and the experts in the industry always judge a player's potential by his physical stats and his swing. It's unfair. We SHOULD judge a player by all characteristics, including mental make-up and toughness. Sergio, for instance, just wasn't born with the calm that Tiger possesses and it ultimately hinders his ability to win. It's not necessarily choking, it's just who Sergio is.

With that said, what a helluva Championship. Tiger is even more must-watch TV the remainder of this season. He hit so many good putts this week that barely missed. I'm sure those will all come together in atleast one tournament this year and he wins by 8+
i saw at least five putts that could just have easily gone in, where Tiger couldn't have putted them any better

good post, i totally agree

Golf ball physics are hard

I've been listening to Miller Time toot his own horn since the mid 90's on NBC broadcasts, it get's old real quick. There's no doubt it was a great round, but since only Miller Time talks about it anymore just irks me.

Here is Johnny Miller talking about Lee Trevino's swing in a 2012 golf magazine article:

Underappreciated and undercelebrated—that’s Lee Trevino. And maybe Lee wants it that way, but hear this: His swing is one of only four that I ever wanted to copy. His signature low cut was as trustworthy as a good hunting dog, and he packed more raw, natural power than even today’s most athletic Tour players. (Trevino with a modern 460cc driver is a scary thought.)

I got a firsthand glimpse of his talent in my very first big event. I was paired with Trevino at the 1966 U.S. Open at the Olympic Club, and although I was low amateur that year, I learned more from that experience just watching him attack the course. There wasn’t a fairway Lee couldn’t hit. We met again in 1969 in my first event as a PGA Tour player, and by that time I had practiced what I had seen in his swing at Olympic to the point where I could pretty much match him cut for cut when the situation called for it.

Most players think of the swing as a circle. Trevino saw it as something different. Instead of folding his arms up after impact to remain on the circle, he chased his right shoulder toward the target to
the point where the club pointed straight down the line. He made this move with such force that it
looked like his right arm was going to rip straight out of its shoulder socket. It’s actually a move that most great ballstrikers have used over the decades.

Eventually, your left elbow must fold and get the club moving up the circle again, but try chasing down the line first, like Trevino did. I bet you’ll find yourself hitting the ball a little straighter and, if you can hold off your release just that much longer, creating a power fade. While the word “fade” has negative connotations for a chronic slicer, a controlled cut in the hands of a good player like Trevino leads to a Hall-of-Fame career, five Vardon Trophies and half a dozen major victories.

Johnny Miller has improved by leaps and bounds as an announcer though. You have to give that to him.

The Marshals are now claiming they never talked to TIger to tell him Sergio shot. Here is what I don't get. I thought the Marshal wouldn't normally talk to the players. INstead he/she holds his hand up to tell people not to move and to be quite while a player is shooting. Once he lowers his hand you are free to make noise and move. It sort of sounds like the marshal didn't know this or maybe I'm wrong about the marshals hand signal.

Obviously. Like I said had he thought this he wouldn't have reacted the way he did - by pointing over to Sergio as if to fake-say "shhh, he's hitting over there" RIGHT after Sergio strikes the ball. Didn't make any sense and I have no idea why the media didn't call him out on the obvious lie.

Tiger lied, Sergio complained. Very standard for both of them.

How do you know he's settled down with Vonn and not running around smashing? Because the media says so? Everyone thought he was settled down with Elin for about 7 years, how'd that turn out?

As far as the last sentence, I don't think the majority of men who cheat think anywhere even close to this.

Most guys who have a hot wife that puts out whenever they want a piece and is great at it don't actively pursue Perkins waitresses.
