TGC saying Steve Stricker is not going to the British Open or play in the FedEx Cup playoffs, but will play the John Deere of course

On a John Deere Green... on a hot summer night, he wrote "Stevie Strick loves putting" in letters three feet high. And the whole town said the boy shoulda played the Open but he looked good to Nicki.... on that John Deere Green.

I wish I knew more about Duval's career. His incredible run was something that I was aware of, but wasn't really into golf at the time (and was too young to probably have a grasp on it anyways). His fall-off from that level is one of the greatest falls from grace in sports. Maybe a 30 for 30 type of story in the future.

I do find myself cheering for him every time he gets in contention (which is few and far between)

And also, lolol.

This year or next year I plan on going to the John Deere. Got a friend who lives in Davenport and we're both big golf fans, seems like a logical trip.

Also pretty sure I've posted this each of the last 3 years but I fully expect Tiger to not contend for the win this week. Top 10 probably but no win

It'll probably be some random oddball like John Senden or Martin Laird who wins this week.

Johnny was the best iron player I have ever seen. His long game was okay. His short game was good. And he was a good putter during his prime. He could go low with the best of them.

His demise was due entirely to his putting woes. He became the worst short-range putter on tour, probably missing more short putts than anyone other than Sam Snead. Of course, when your putting goes it affects your entire game.

Johnny, to his credit, won a couple of times late in his career even when his putting was pretty brutal.

i may be wrong but i think some of the downfall was attributable to the breakup of a long-term relationship shortly before the scheduled marriage.

LOL David Lynn. Such an awful decision.

With his runner-up finish in the Wells Fargo Championship, David Lynn of England all but assured himself a spot in his first U.S. Open. He moved to No. 42 in the world, and the top 60 in three weeks are exempt from qualifying.

One problem. Lynn already booked a vacation the week of the U.S. Open, and he has no plans to postpone that.

"I need a holiday, to be honest," he said after his playoff loss to Derek Ernst at Quail Hollow. "So I'm going to do that."

IIRC Duval had relationship issues and developed the Driver yips.

I'd forgotten his runner up finish in the 09 US Open

Thanks.

Would have been interesting to see how the long-belly putter could have prolonged his career.

That seems like a dumb choice also. Move your holiday back a week. You think your kids and wife be OK with that

Duval was a legendary practicer and I remember him saying that after he won the British Open it didn't feel the way he thought it would feel. In turn he decided to spend more time with his family and enjoy life.

He was a big fan of Ayn Rand at one point and I believe climbing to the top of the world like he did was a ultimate goal and when he got there he realized that life was more about family and friends then pumping out majors.

I am sure he is happy also. Is Nike still paying him also?

In reality he got off lucky and now wants to sue them. What reputation? I really doubt it hurt him at all. Did a sponsor drop him? maybe its because your game is no good anymore

I just picked 7 guys in the Players for a fantasy league I'm in, no restrictions, I can pick whoever I think the best 7 guys are. Only 1 of them was an American, it was Tiger.

I don't have a point, just found it surprising.
