Turns out that you are right in that Marr was on the broadcast but it was Dick Enberg (ugh) who was in the booth with Johnny. Gary Koch was walking with a group as was Dan Pohl and Maltbie, and the guy calling 17 sounded like Charlie Jones, the guy who used to call AFC games for NBC. At some point he must have retired and been replaced by Koch. Dan Hicks was on the broadcast too, on one of the holes.
Anyway, the event turned on what was no more than a 15 minute stretch. Couples' now famous lucky shot on 16 that he thought was going in the water but which led to an eagle instead. Before that he was a shot behind both Monty and Tolles, but that put him in the lead, immediately after which both Monty and Tolles bogeyed. Couples then birdied 17 with a long putt to turn a one stroke deficit into a three shot lead. Prior to that sequence he looked like the least likely of the three to win.
