LOL I love yelling "get out of that lake" when one of my buddies hits a terrible shot 20 yards from any chance at dry land. Would never do it in a tournament but never really gets old in my normal 6 beer deep Sunday afternoon round

If it's a serious tournament just don't say anything unless you know it's dead, i.e. in the water or ob, or you know it's up and in a decent spot.. If you are gambling or playing for funsies say whatever the **** you want imo.

I hope to get good enough to play with players who can hit a hybrid 250 to 6 inches under the hole on a par 5 then as we get to the green I can say "How can you leave that short?"

Reminds me of an incident at Disney years ago where a player on a 400+ yard par 4 hit a cartpath and ended up driving it about 700 yards. He had to hit 8-iron and then wedge coming back to the green.

Right, as BBB said a group of friends playing a round shouldn't be uptight. What I was relaying (as were you in your story) was from a competitive round.

In our games these days I like to watch a ball come to rest and then tell my opponent "ooh, it rolled into the [sand/water/ob/behind a tree]". This line really kills when I tell him it ended up in a pond and there isn't actually one on the hole.

I just hate the seemingly 45-60 seconds you cringe and wait for wood vs glass when it's clearly heading towards a house. Sigh

Heh -- I remember playing in either the AM or Open qualifier one year and the guy I played with hit a shot towards some trees. Beyond the trees was OB, but when he hit his shot, I yelled "get out!" I truly meant it as in -- get out of the trees and get a lucky kick back into the fairway, but it obviously didn't come across this way.

A little bickering occurred and I told him English is my 2nd Language so suck it.

YEP.

At least with the snap hook - the most violent and damaging of wayward shots - it gets there quicker so the wait isn't as intense.

So apparently they re-sodded the greens at Quail Hollow just a few weeks ago. They were saying you can still see some of the joint lines in the greens. Will be interesting to see if this affects anybody's putting.

Yea they re-sodded 2 of them LAST week. There will definitely be seams, but apparently they used some pretty huge pieces of sod. What a **** show.

This is # 9 green I'm told and there are 3 more like it . Wow not good perpetration for the players or US Open pic.twitter.com/cDNYNc3io1

New 8th green @WellsFargoGolf installed a week ago. Great hustle, we'll see how it holds up. pic.twitter.com/EpIMHkK9Ex

So anyone been to Quail Hollow before? Going on Thursday and I'm just curious to see what's a good area to just park and watch the action? For the first hour or two (probably will get there at like 8 or 9) we'll probably tour the course and see some shots, but after that I'd rather park in an area and watch a bunch of action. I'm not crazy familiar with the course (I know like 17 and 18, 7 of course, and I think there was a giant downhill par 5 that's tough to drive but I forgot the hole number), so any tips would be appreciated. I tend to avoid popular spots like 18 because I'm not interested in trying to get a peek over 7 rows of spectators. I'm thinking I'd like to catch some of the action on 7, especially if there's a good flag location there that day, but I'm open to other areas that would be fun to watch.

So what happened to the greens at Quail Hollow, was it a fungus or a disease or something?

Crappy weather, lots of rain and until recently a bunch of cool weather. Not sure why that would mess up bentgrass greens but I guess it did.

that was like bowling with bumpers.

what a great break that ball didn't go down to the right, god knows where it could have gone from there.

to be fair the weather in charlotte has been completely awful, we were in the 50s for almost a month when we should have been in the high 60s lower 70s, so it probably did mess up their preparations.

I think it's been cold everywhere this year. We had our heat running in our house a week into April in Houston which is absolutely unheard of. We've had cold fronts come in seemingly every couple weeks since winter. Another is supposed to come in Thursday. People are getting sick with allergies and bronchitis and **** because it goes from 70s to 30s or 40s and back constantly. Typically, down here, cold fronts don't really hit us after about mid-march. Been an infuriating spring. I just got over bronchitis last week.

I was going to post pictures of my yard during The Masters weekend but it wasn't close to ready. Still wasn't even fully green. A couple weeks later it was fully green and I've been trying to get it into shape since. Still need to trim the bushes and stuff and re-mulch. But the grass looks great but it took at least an extra month this year.

i went two years go:

- enjoyed sitting on the slight hill to the left of number 8 green

- spent some time to the right of number 5 green

- right of 14 fairway a good spot (especially with binoculars as you can watch 17 too)

- if you come in the way i did (public entrance after taking the bus) you enter right at the practice facility ... hard not to stop and spend a half or so there ... so budget for that
