There was also a WGC event in 2000 that Weir one that all the players bitched about a hole being so unfair. Any ball with a spin on it rolled back into the water as they shaved the hill

A golf hole can absolutely be unfair if it punishes good shots. (I don't think 18 is unfair btw)
You are using two definitions of unfair.

I think you have a point with the first (although I cannot imagine anyone setting up a course so that anyone in the field literally COULD not clear a necessary carry), but the second is tougher.

It might be a "bad set up," (or even, absurd), but it is a bad setup for everyone.

I guess it's semantics.

Sure you're not thinking about Augusta National in '86? No wait, you're thinking about Inverness in '86.

He shouldn't have hit the trap draw there.

He is thinking of Southern Hills too. Greens 9 and 18 were absurd for a little bit. It was mainly during the practice rounds though when a lot of players got tilted and were calling it unfair. It seems like they did a pretty good job on controlling it after that though if I remember. Obviously most only remember the collapses on 18 from that week now.

No he's not because Southern Hills was in no way unplayable. 9 and 18 are severely tilted from back to front and the USGA chose not to mow those greens as short as the rest to make sure they were fair. The biggest issue was that the pros had difficulty adapting to the slower green speeds on those two.

As far as I'm concerned the 2001 US Open didn't even start until the 72nd hole. Can't remember a single other thing that happened aside from Cink, Brooks, and Goosen, which is odd because I can remember a ton of things about pretty much every open before and after that going back a ways.

Pfft, you're slipping Tuqster. The 2001 US Open doesn't exist because Tiger was never a factor.

He was a slight pickup in the wind from pulling a Kyle Stanley on 18. That's not according to plan at all. He closed much better than last year's version, but he still seemed to lose some control at the end of it

I think people are reading more into it as Tiger has had some troubles in the past year in final rounds. Old Tiger never took the peddle off the gas when leading.

Reality is Tiger could win 5 events this year and no majors and he would consider the year a failure.

Also I laugh when People say Tiger has to be the favorite at the Masters. Heck the years he sucked he was a favorite. Any tournament Tiger enters he is the favorite.

I am also curious if Tiger would help Steve Stricker out or weather most tour players would do the same. Such a fine line between winning and being on tour

I'm surprised at the other TW fans here not being a little more concerned about the close. He sniped an iron off 16 tee and then flat chunked the wedge shot. And then the 3rd on 18 was stuck in the ground. I'm just not sold on him closing something out when he doesn't have a multishot lead.

Maybe he should learn to hit a SW 175 yards like everyone else so he can hold the green.

Kidding, but this is a good example of trying to define "unfair." Everyone else's well-struck ball ended up in just as bad or worse shape. If he gets up and down, he likely picks up half a stroke on the field. If not, he might lose half a stroke. That was the course that day.

Tiger never took the gas off? WAT? He was famous for making Sundays boring as hell, going into middle of the green, 2-putting, and coasting to victory. He almost always took his foot off the pedal

Also, samplesizaments. I'm soooooo worried that Tiger hit 3 bad shots down the stretch. My god.

Maybe because there is a good reason? GOAT GOAT GOAT

Also from the small Stricker interview, it sounds like players help each other all the time. Everything Ive read and seen, Id also believe that players help each other all the time too so its probably not uncommon at all

Happens every single day on tour. But Tiger was involved this time so the media ran with it to deliver to the non-golf fans.

He hit 3 of his worst 10 shots of the week on the last 3 holes. After doing the same thing at Torrey. It's an issue.

But then at the Ryder Cup he never missed a shot when the heat was on. Tough to really project how he plays down the stretch with a 4-5 shot cushion to how he will play down the stretch in the future when a tournament is on the line.
