On the one hand TV ratings are undeniably much higher when Tiger plays, on the other hand purses definitely would have grown without him. We had the internet boom then a real estate boom creating a lot of wealth in this country.

From a financial perspective of the tour golf is still a rich white man's sport. All the commercials are for financial companies like Barclays or business services like IBM and Accenture. And companies like Waste Management will still shell out a huge premium knowing he won't play. It's mostly cause rich white guys want to play the pro ams

I do think things like the first tee would still exist without Tiger, probably to a similar extent.

This is objectively incorrect - regardless of how anyone would feel about TW, I don't see how you could make such a statement. He could be the biggest, most egotistical ******* this world has ever seen, and that statement would still not be correct.

Phil with another great round. He's officially knocked Tiger out of the #1 talked about American golfer slot.

Well Lozen is a moron, so that's probably how he made that statement.

i agree it would be better for the tour if tiger would play in some of the smaller cap tourneys, but i guess when your good enough to pick and choose only the premium ones but still have a high win% you can conserve wear and tear.

the tour might be still a rich white man's sport but i doubt the ratings would be where its at w/o tiger's influence on the casual sports fan or non fan. i mean even if there was a first tee w/o would inner city kids even have any interest?

if there's no tiger i dont think ricky from compton is gonna be all "hell yeah i get to learn golf!"

So it's all about the rich white guys, but the first tee would exist in a similar scope without Tiger ****ing Woods??

Tiger is on Jordan's level. Think about that for a second. He made it cool to play golf. Kids dig cool ****.

I'm not trying to be a dick I just strongly disagree.

Sorry, you said from a financial perspective re: all about rich white guys.

Still disagree with your first tee comment obv but my first sentence wasn't fair.

I really wish I had a universe simulator so that I could remove Tiger Woods from existence and show how golf would suffer by comparison as a result

I mean, how many kids picked up the game because of Tiger? I 100% did. How many new tour pros were inspired by Tiger? How many men & women decided to pick up the game and give it a shot because of the increased attention it was getting, causing memberships to grow, new muni's to be built, more golf being accessible to people who it otherwise wouldn't be exposed to? It has to be a significant percentage difference. This in turn leads to more viewership, which leads to larger TV contracts, bigger sponsorships, larger purses.

And yes, I've seen the report about the growth of other sports; but I'm pretty convinced that golf minus Tiger would be in a state where it would be flatlining.

If it weren't for this derail, BO would be all up in hurr discussing the guys who barely missed the cut.

We'd probably have inside info from between the ropes thanks to all of his low level contacts on the tour.

Maybe an odd ruling happened this week to the 307th ranked player in the world, and we're missing an epic breakdown on why it was right or wrong.

Nope, all he does is bitch and moan about what other people are talking about.

The golf forum should just happy there are enough people posting for a derail to even be possible lol.

He's like Iggy, but instead of being phenomenally entertaining, he's a complete ****ing *******. Both are trolls; one is entertaining, one is a trainwreck.

I'm loling at:

- the curse of the taxman showing up on 18 to deny Phil his 59.
- ntBo still rustling jimmies like a rookie
- people arguing against the Tiger effect

and anyone complaining about what Bones did on 18 really needs some help.

Iggy manages to be correct 90% of the time and hilarious 10% of the time. BO manages to be terrible 100% of the time even when he is correct. That's why he should have been banned years ago. Either that or he's tuq's gimmick. I'm not even rustled because I know what BO is going to provide on a post-to-post basis, and it's hardly worth keeping him around. He managed to drive ship---this and spenda, the two most valuable posters here, away single-handedly. So I'm not mad or butthurt, despite what some might claim. I'm simply trying to take one for the team if necessary and save the golf forum. Because goddamn, I love this game more than life itself

Having met BO on several occasions I can confirm he isn't a gimmick account.

Oh I don't think he's a gimmick...I just think he adds zero value to this forum. Positive knowledge plus an equal but negative volume of insufferable suckage. He would have been banned by Clark or 72off ages ago in SE, but tuq wants to feel important and empowered so he keeps him around. Deer-in-headlights syndrome. I understand, but it's still inexcusable. He has to go. This forum will not have peace until it happens, so do it and get it over with. You're sacrificing the entirety of this forum for one 39 year old guy who failed at his pro golf dream and is now taking his frustrations out on a bunch of 4-handicap peons. Like any mature human would do. Well, I'm capable of rational thought, too, and I would have banned him ages ago. He's akin to Epipen, or at least on that level of contentiousness. JUST DO IT
