So if it wasn't for a few people, it wouldn't be necessary. But then again, if all the crap is contained in one thread, those who take things a bit more seriously don't have to wade through it to read the important stuff.

The only problem is if people post good stuff in the low content thread, it won't be read by all. Also new posters could be confused by the dual threads.

I'd just hate to see this good forum turn into a mirror of SE where 95% of the posts are total crap. So I guess do whatever needs to be done not to let that happen.

BO
LOL at this forum needing two separate threads. You're "wading through" like ten posts in the scenario you describe.

And if you think 95% of posts in SE are crap I don't know what to tell you.

Anyway, I'm not 100% sure what you bring to the table, at least as far as this thread is concerned. Along with your complaining over last day about thread content, here are about half of your posts itt so far.

All very high brow, super serious PGA Tour content. Definitely nothing that someone who would say the above bold would ever be caught dead posting.

This statement is ignorant beyond belief. The greens at Torrey are poa annua which grows at different speeds throughout the day. If you have been paying attention during the telecast you'd know that the greens get bumpier throughout the day and are at their bumpiest at the end of the day.

So Snedeker has a choice of putting a 9-footer when the greens are at their worst, or putting the same 9-footer when the greens are at their absolute best and freshly cut. Easy choice.

2 pm ET on TGC, 4 pm ET on CBS; CBS requested the late start so they could air it in the afternoon, as I understand it.

Oh I'm sorry, I thought this was an intelligent discussion of the PGA Tour goings on. I pointed out exactly why the statement was the furthest thing from the truth using basic golf knowledge.

If my statement was too technical or accurate for this forum I'll go get a lobotomy so I'll fit right in with the posters who are complaining.

On second thought, maybe we should just give BO his own thread. Seems like that would be the better solution. He can post his own musings, analysis, and riveting tales of Charley Hoffman's amateur career, and we can discuss golf in the regular thread.

Win/Win

Good point. I'm not sure we need this nonsense being posted over and over again in this wonderful forum

Have you ever considered this approach:

"Actually, there is a reason to wait to hit the putt until tomorrow. The greens are poa annua which get really bumpy by the end of the day. If he waits until tomorrow he will have a much smoother putt and, in turn, a higher likelihood of making it."

Instead of belittling the poster by the bold below:

If the poster had not belittled a class golfer and instead queried why he might have chosen that route, I would have done exactly what you suggest.

If you've noticed by my posts, I tend to give exactly what is deserved. If people ask an honest question I'll do my best to answer it in a kind manner such as with swing advice or the rules thread. If someone comes here and blathers nonsense or posts without thinking, I'll respond in kind.

Who wants to be serious during a sporting event? You've got all week to dissect Xs and Os, debate player value, or hypothesize how many 5th graders it would take to beat labron at pick-up. When people are watching live games, they like to post observations about that game and read what others are saying about it. These aren't going to be well-thought out analyses by nature; one of the great things about sports (which the SE mods realize) is the emotions of the fan/viewer during a game. If the stealers are lolstealering, they deserved to get trolled for it, just like if Tiger can't hit a wedge within 25 feet, Phil blames his 6th consecutive over-par round on cell phones, or G-Mac duckhooks one left, giving us the best shot-tracker ever. Obviously golf isn't going to get the volume of SE, so the low-content posting during rounds shouldn't be as intense or devoid of any significance whatsoever.

Okay, but without the lower content posting, this thread (or a separate one) would probably have less than 40 posts. We're already at less than 300 as it is, so again, I'm not sure it's necessarily getting 'lost' as you seem to be fearing. As a general rule of thumb, one shouldn't get into a debate on strokes gained putting when the final group is on 15 neck-and-neck for the win. Also, from my experience, the smaller tournaments don't get the posting levels of Tiger at Torrey, so I feel like it's a non-issue most of the time.

I wouldn't have too many reservations about this; I just don't think the two threads are necessary given this thread is only getting ~75 posts/week.

If all you read are gameday threads, then of course you'll think the posting is horrible. In mega-threads like this, the tech is to respect when there is play going on and wait to engage discussion until after the rounds are over/before the rounds start. This way, people won't be in 'OMG DID YOU SEE THAT SHOT?' mode and more likely to give a serious reply. Even then, you probably don't have to observe this 100% of the time as the smaller tourneys will have lower posts/day counts anyway. If Tiger and Phil are dead even at the turn on a Sunday and you've got something you really want to talk about or a serious point you fear won't get attention, just go ahead and make a thread. If it's something worth discussing, people will post. If not, it will fall to the bottom of the page and life will go on.

These are just my feelings as I've never seen a problem with the LC/content ratio ITT or felt that LC posts were burying good posts.

So, to summarize, you think it is ok to be rude to another poster because that poster was rude to a professional golfer?

KVL is right. Perhaps the other poster gets paid by the keystroke which justifies their feeling of need to add "that's straight pussy" to the end of that statement, but the parts he bolded really aren't necessary. We all get that you know about golf, just make us feel stupid by stating the facts rather than junk about ignorance or watching the broadcast.
