He's not gonna come close to the 76.5 he suggested betting the over for for his best round. Gonna smoke it by multiple strokes even with a double on the card and still has another round to play to improve on that.

74 was certainly better than I expected TBH. It seemed like he scraped it a bit with some timely up and downs which I thought would be his weakness. But hit some good shots too with 3 birdies so that helped.

I would be surprised if he betters this round tomorrow though.

Again the guy is scratch and shot 4-over on a tough course. Not really a surprising result, about what you'd expect for a guy with his hc.

LOL. And let's just ignore all the basic math about course rating and the U.S. handicapping system we went over that proved you wrong. Not to mention the added difficulty with the course setup compared to it's rating.

I'll be the first to admit that Curry kicked ass today compared with his skill level, and good for him for doing so. a decent web.com player is 6-7 shots better than Curry on average. As ship--this would say, "scratch sucks".

His round was amazing not only when you consider the course rating, but also the way they set courses up for tournaments. Having pins 4 steps from the edge, pins on ledges with fast greens, and heavier rough around the greens makes a huge difference. I learned this when I qualified for a couple of state amateurs. It was super eye opening for me. I was like oh, that's what getting short sided really means....

From the highlights I saw, thoroughly impressed with some of the touch he showed around the greens

i'll preface this by saying ultimately i'm positively shocked at how he did.

one thing to keep in mind is he's a very athletic person so his handicap is probably real and not vanity. so many mediocre low handicappers out there.

also, does anyone know if stonebrae/hayward is very wide-open? alot of courses around there are.

looking at his stats, +4 is pretty darn good when he only hit 8 of 18 greens. lots of touch, which sort of contradicts my athletic comment as being a huge factor in his success

athleticism seems to be pretty mildly coordinated to golf. I mean Charles Barkley is 10x as athletic as John Daly and Daly won 2 majors as an out of shape, cigarette smoking, alcoholic who barely even practiced. Barkley probably practices as much as Daly and is one of the worst golfers I've ever seen. You see all kinds of guys who weren't even good high school athletes in sports like basketball, football, soccer, and baseball succeed in golf and world class athletes in other sports struggle with it pretty routinely. It seems like only baseball pitchers and QBs tend to be above average golfers as far as crossover athletes go.

Most of it seems like raw talent mixed with practice with exposure at a young age also playing a very crucial role.

Also, why would someone who is very athletic be less likely to have a vanity handicap?

Also, what's the point of a vanity handicap? Cheating the system in that direction has seemingly no benefits. I don't know why anyone who would cheat would go in that direction instead of towards a higher handicap.

i think one other benefit for him is he's used to being in the spotlight in pressure situations. not that a round of golf is the same as an NBA playoff game, but i can see how it could help.

Not gonna lie I was looking forward to him shooting 84-80. Well done though, very impressive.

I too was surprised by the results. Really thought he would struggle at least one of the rounds.

But I just heard a commentator (I believe it was Michael Collins) say that with a little practice Steph could easily get through QSchool and play Web. Com. This based off a sample of 2 rounds where he missed the cut by 11

No, not even close. He played really well and was 11 strokes from making the cut.

Dustin Johnson is a hell of an athlete, can dunk a basketball. It would be like saying he could play G league basketball if he switched from golf.

Probably not but he will be in a unique position where he can keep his am status and travel the country playing those elite am events to get tested. He doesn't have to go through the grind of mini tours or that crap.

After a year or 2 of full time golf we will be able to see if he has a legit shot or not.

Odds of Curry ever making it on any pro tour:

it's not like saying that at all, unless Dustin Johnson is good enough at bball to be playing D1 level or something and I don't know about it. and the hooters(now the Swingthought) tour has plenty of bums on it

jamie sadlowski 2 off the lead in canada (calgary event).

i'm seen jamie play live recently and his mistakes are generally "lack of tournament golf" variety like spin/trajectory control. it seemed like he might have been more prone to missed fairway, slight miss of green, short pitch to 7 feet, miss the putt...... seems like that's stuff that will correct itself over time and more tourneys. and he seems to be playing alot of canadian events these days.

Yeah, he played an event down in South America last year. Trying to learn how to play tournament golf really, no more long drive for him. It is a nice weapon when you can hit your 5 iron 275 off the tee.

GOAT match-play continues on FS1. going to the 27th hole of the women's Am - QF match (tying a record for a women's Am) after 13 year old Wu made a 69 foot birdie putt from off the green (knowing she had to make it b/c her opponent would make her 2 footer for the win had she missed).

Sigh watching on dvr but looks like I am going to miss about 30 minutes of play, just started the dvr back up.
