12 for 1, these events always make for some epic playoffs.

43 of the 63 auto-qualifiers played Oakmont in the second round of stroke play.

Castillo going to take Kay to the woodshed.

Cheer for the old guy in the playoff. Joe Alfieri has won the 40 and over FSGA event in the past and is always near the top of the leaderboard.

Playoff down to Dunlap and David Nyjfall (it took a birdie on hole #15 and then a par #16 to get to the final two).

Nyjfall wins the playoff with a par on the third playoff hole. The holes were actually #15, #18, and #18 again.

coverage about to begin on Peacock. some big names already knocked out in the R64: Dobbelaar, Osbourne (last yr's runner-up), Preston Summerhays (his brother didn't qualify for match-play), and Sargent.

Nyfjall (the 12-for-1 playoff winner) just won the last 4 holes to win 1UP over the medalist.

I find watching the Am every year oddly inspiring. Love to watch it. Even though I'm past the point age where I can compete with these kids it feels more attainable in a way than watching the tour.

Sucks for the guy on the losing end but this is the best thing in match play

Agree

There is so much variance in an 18 hole match and these guys are all so good that I'm not sure it's really even an "upset"

The lack of coverage is criminal. Who would rather watch first/second round of the Wyndam or Korn Ferry instead of the Am at OCC?

Tar Heel Greaser second golfer into the QFs. He made the semis of the Western Am, so someone to keep our eyes on.

Stew Hagestad won the US Mid-Am, his second win in the event. Had it 7 up at one point in the 36 hole final and won 2&1.

Really too bad the mid-am gets no coverage, tv or streaming.

Back to Augusta for Stew.

Akshay Bhatia just won the opening KFT event of the season down in the Bahamas. Birdied 3 of the last 4 to win by 2. 19 years old; turned pro straight out of high school; with many (especially internet trolls) criticizing that choice. Will be exciting to see the rest of his season and hopefully have him on tour this fall.

Golf buddy of mine for the last 20 years, we always play practice rounds together at Q school, just finished solo 6th in this week’s Champions Tour event after successfully Monday qualifying. Gets him into the next full field event and a check for $72k. Sweet.

In tournaments he's proven himself to be a better player. Whenever we've played for money in casual rounds it's straight up and I've done just fine.

Personally, I think I'm every bit as good as he is but the results in competitions haven't shown that. Regardless, it's encouraging to see a player I'm 100% sure I'm in the same ballpark with finish that high on the PGA Tour Champions.

USGA season has been solid so far. Enjoyed the coverage of the US Junior at Bandon and then the US Women's Am at Chambers. Will look a lot different with the guys at Ridgewood this week - some tough conditions it seems through just over a round so far.

Is it standard to have 300+ guys qualify for the US Am stroke play?
