Suggestion, if the powers that be are reading.
For a potential candidate, remove his biggest tournament win of his career. Then ask yourself...does this player still belong in the Hall of Fame? That mental exercise clears things up pretty nicely. My second exercise to to imagine that you were writing a book about the history of golf (you could narrow it the history of tournament golf over the last 75 years, if you wish). Would this player unquestionably be in the book? My first test involving removing the biggest win would go a long way in making it a stronger Hall of Fame. The second test with the book is just another tool to use.
