Finally got around to re-applying for amateur status. Been out of the business for almost 4 years now.

Cost me $125 but I got an email today confirming my reinstatement.

Man, I hate playing against people like you! Guy I know was state HS champ, all-conference four years in Big Ten, played mini tours forever. Next thing I know he's playing against me as a 3 handicap at a tournament on his old home course. He won.

We should get a 4ball team together for some sort of event now that we're all amateurs.

It's depressing knowing that the end of the golf season is near.

My resume looks nothing like that. Squeezed into a PGM program because they are real lax on the 8 handicap requirement. Chopped it around as about a 5 all through college. Failed one PAT before I passed. Then I gave mediocre lessons at GolfTEC for a year.

I know more about the golf swing now, and play better as well, then I ever did when I was a "professional."

Seeing the Mid-Am thread this morning finally made me send them an application. I tried to about 2 years ago, but they made you fill out a ton of paperwork and mail it to them and I was just lazy and didn't do it. I checked today and saw you could do it online and did it.

But yeah, I am trying to get my game in some sort of shape to play tournaments again.

Not here in sunny FL. Golf season is just starting for us.

def of fixed cost: "In economics, fixed costs are business expenses that are not dependent on the level of goods or services produced by the business....This is in contrast to variable costs, which are volume-related (and are paid per quantity produced)."

French fries are clearly a variable cost. The more McD doles out, the more they have to order each day, they more they have to pay for. I.E. their costs go up with the amount of french fries they buy.

You seem to think that "fixed cost" means "there is an actual (fixed) number attached to the cost of this good."

"There is an actual numerical answer to this, and a very simple one, I'm sure any mcdonalds manager would know."

This is true, but this doesn't mean that french fries are fixed costs.
As much as you are right, I think any intelligent person know what DD was trying to say and why the french fries analogy is NOTHING like the situation at hand...

To some degree you basically disproved your own analogy. You tell us that replaying golf and getting free french fries is the same thing and then tell us what a variable cost is. lol?

I think it will be a very good game, had A&M won tonight I'd be much more confident than I am now, this team just doesn't know how to win close games.

We had a great day at a spectacular course this morning. I wish I could play Eagle's Nest day everyday for the rest of my life, what a test of golf. I didn't play very well today, but I had a really hot driver and almost looked like I knew what I was doing off the tee.

brag; didn't lose a ball

#3 Par 4 - probably the only green that wasn't elevated.

#8

Somewhere on the back 9.

Somewhere on the back 9.

#12

#18 from the tee, nice par 4.

Right, I agree with this. Jshuttles, I definitely used the term wrong, I sort of hate it when people use a term that has a true meaning but they don't mean it the right way at all (people do this with "GTO" as it relates to poker all the time) - but I'm not an economist so I chose a bad argument over a word I didn't fully understand. I think what I should have said is "tangible cost" ?

I honestly had no idea until I was halfway through writing my explanation. I was an econ minor in college so when someone says "fixed cost" I think of the economic definition of a fixed cost.

Ya, I wasn't trying to get all high and mighty, just thought it would be good for you to know what the economic textbook definition of fixed cost is, because it is something you will here somewhat often on the news, etc. "Tangible cost" is better, but probably, "the marginal cost is fixed" would've been technically best.

What's GTO?

"Game Theory Optimal" - The unexploitable strategic solution to a game with set rules. Now watch it will be funny when an econ / game theory specialist corrects my definition

no clue except maybe something like if you take Player A's drive he cannot hit the next shot or something to that effect.

The course is at Dufferin and Major Mackenzie, it's technically in Vaughan City which is about 20-30 minutes north of Toronto, but it's the Greater Toronto Area.

Called the course, and that's exact what it is. Requires each time to find two ringers instead of just one.
