does anyone have any golf suggestions for Goodyear, Arizona in February? I'll be there in February with two other golfers.

edit: willing to drive of course, up to about an hour

I found WeKoPa very enjoyable 10 years ago. It’s in Fort McDowell, close to an hour from you. Not cheap though.

Career long 3 wood yesterday. No wind assistance and it went 311y.

Spoiler:
It hit the yardage marker in the fairway

ha. i played in a tourney years ago where a guy in our group did that. his ball went a mile.

on the other hand i hit the yardage marker on a drive this year. problem is it was the 150 stake. i hit a low bullet and it hit the stake HARD and bounced 100 yards dead left.

i can't remember if i've told this story here before, but several years ago i was playing a par 5, hit a solid drive and was ~225 out. played a low 3w and directly hit the 150 stake resulting in the ball bouncing straight back and landing 10 yards in front of where i was standing.
fast forward a few weeks, with a different foursome, playing a different course, and i hit a solid drive on the par 5 18th. as we're walking up to our second shot i'm telling the other guys the story above about how i hit the 150 and had the ball come straight back to me.
you can guess what happened next.

A few years back I chaired the grounds committee at my now former club. My first move was to remove the 150 poles for this very reason.

A few members complained of course as there are a lot of doglegs. My thought process was 150 poles don’t belong at a country club. First off if you’re a member you’ve played the course countless times and don’t need the help of the pole. Public courses are a totally different story.

I don't think I've ever actually hit a 150 pole. But with GPS and range finders they see pretty obsolete.

My gf smashed a 150-marker and it came back almost to the tee on a tee shot once

I like the 150 markers that are on both sides of the fairway - reminds me of the course i grew up on

About 25 years ago we were playing a night golf tournament. One of my friends had his knee hanging out the side of the passenger side of a cart when the driver grazed a 150 yd post on that side of the cart. It was pretty ugly.

lots of the public courses in Portland have cherry trees planted on either side of the fairway around the 150 mark. i've always thought it was a great way to designate the distance. doesn't matter the time of year, you can still pick them out.

Played the Mountain Shadows par 3 course (Scottsdale) with wife and kids today.

A lot of fun and longest hole was maybe like 180

The game of wolf giveth and taketh away. Was on a nice little 3 week run winning money. Shot my handicap on the number, the only one to come even close. I lost money.

In addition to playing a game I love the past 2 seasons, golf has benefited me in some auxiliary but important ways.

I was 225 lbs in May 2020. Didn't feel well physically with some increasingly painful ailments as a result of lethargy, poor diet, and a nicotine addiction that was ugly on the binary scale. I knew I had to do something to become more active but I really didn't want to lift weights because of how I felt physically. So I played 9. Felt terrible after. Lots of pain all over.

By fall I was down about 15 lbs. And I had started messing around with weights again after a long layoff. Ran into an old neighborhood friend. He said he was getting back into lifting. I said starting strength by rippetoe? Yes. We lifted that night and agreed to make it a regular thing.

By June I was squatting 205 for many reps and deadlifted just over 300 three times that same day.

Today I have a job that aligns nicely with my physical and mental skills. On Tuesday afternoon I did a light lift and played 9 after 6 days of labor in a row. Felt great after.

Thanks golf.
