Took my first lesson after playing badly since I started golfing last summer--in other words, long enough to pick up lots of bad habits. The instructor fixed my grip and had me swing with just my left hand, then just my right hand, then both hands, with a pause at the top of my backswing to make sure I didn't have the clubface closed too much. It wasn't magic, but I made pretty good contact quite a few times and it definitely feels like I'm on the way to playing a lot better. Gonna try to get out to the range and play a round or two before setting up another lesson.

Looking for names of sets of super game improvement irons. I'm talking shovels. Not for me, for someone who hits hybrids fine but has a mental block about conventional irons. So far I've thought of the Cleveland HiBore and I think Adams makes a line with clubs that look like hybrids all the way down to the wedges. Does Nike make a set? Anyone else?

The Adams set is the A7OS Max. Its supposed to be a really good set. I'm not sure there are many others that are fully hybrid. The Cobra S2 Max set are shovels but only comes with a few hybrids. Same with the new Ping K15 line (they are going to be more expensive than the Cobras or Adams as well).

I would look at the Adams set, they make great hybrids.

That does look like a great finishing hole.

But why are you standing on the wrong side of the ball? Plus I gotta give you the needle about playing from the whites. Even though there's nothing at all wrong with that.

played first round in 2+ years today out at what I think is ship---this track, TPC Craig Ranch. Sexy little 36-41 = 77. +5 last 6 holes. Actually a pretty cool course expect there are a few ****ing stupid holes where I don't know wtf Weiskopf was thinking.

I think the only suspect hole out there is 13. From the back tees it's a massive carry over the ravine and bunker. 6 and 14 are great risk/reward holes.

hah 14 is one of the holes I disliked, seems like there's nowhere to hit it from the tips. The course was either playing long, is long, or I'm really short b/c I had so many 5-6 irons into par4's today. If I had to guess I'd say we played it at about ~7250.

I hit hybrid off the tee over the creek leaving myself a flip wedge into the green. No problems whatsoever.

Played there in the 2005 U.S. Open Sectionals. 16 was playing into about a 15mph wind and I hit 3-wood in both rounds. Other than that no other hole was out of the ordinary. Hit 3-wood 5-iron into 8 both times. We did play 7 all the way back the second round. That was the sectional I played on a broken toe which happened the day before so I was giving up yards off the tee.

idk how far you fly that hybrid but it certainly doesn't open the hole up at all unless you can carry it like 240

I think the hole needs to be like 305, then you could easily get an iron to the ~130 mark and into the fairway and you'd be at least tempted to hit driver instead of 3 wood or hybrid.

BAN

I saw this course when the Nationwide Tour was wrapping up on it a couple of years ago. Looked pretty interesting. I recall a drivable par-4 midway through the back and then there was a hole on the front nine, a dogleg left where the second shot played over a ravine, that he said could play as drivable too by moving the tees way up, and one of the advantages of this would be that it faced in a different direction than the one on the back so at least one of them would be tempting.

Also, CDW sponsors the tour, and there are a ton of ads with the CTO of the PGA which air during each event. The first few times I saw these ads I thought he may have a lazy eye. Now I think he's just lazy - he appears to read from a card or teleprompter for the first part of the ad. Only on the second part has he memorized the short line. I mean Jesus, people memorize entire scripts and this guy can't memorize a couple of lines?

At least this year's campaign is marginally less terrible than last year's, which featured the guy on the beach (who is allegedly CDW's owner, but maybe not, who knows) hitting a golf ball around while his minions crowd around a webcam to chat with him about time critical issues. Awful.

Hey guys. I'm new to golf and my bag is lacking clubs.

Right now I bring driver, 4-PW, SW and putter to the course.

Driver is Callaway Great Big Bertha II (bought used semi-cheap)
4-PW are Wilson 1200 Oversize (~Walmart caliber)
SW is Cleveland 588

I have a 3w and 5w that came with my clubs but they look to be 20 years old so I don't use them. I have a LW but it looks cheap and I don't need 60º imo.
I am looking into buying a used hybrid since my long irons are by far my crappiest clubs. Is a hybrid something I should definitely have in my bag? I plan on replacing my irons by next summer with a set of used Clevelands or something but I really need something I can hit 200 yards off the fairway with soon.

I don't think this got a response, but my take is lessons aren't a must if you enjoy or otherwise don't mind the range. The thing with lessons is that your game will almost always get worse before it gets better, and there's no guarantee it will get better. Lessons are the best way if you want to make major, long-term improvements to your game, but if you just enjoy incremental improvements with the swing that you have then I personally don't think they're necessary.

like I mentioned earlier, from the box in front of the tips it'd be a pretty cool hole, I don't like it at 330 yards though.

I can't imagine anyone saying anything but "yes, get as many hybrids as possible" to this question, but when it comes to equipment I'm pretty novice because I rarely change any of it.

Spenda you should still self-ban for the Weiskopf hate.

A hybrid or two would be excellent additions to your bag. For the shot you envision you're probably going to want a "3 hybrid" with 18 to 21 degrees of loft. I would not be all surprised if you find you like it and want to add a 4 hybrid also.

You don't need to fork out a ton of money at this point - I would suggest going eBay or a mega discounter like 3balls or Rock Bottom Golf or Dallas Golf (or someone that ships to wherever you are). You can get a perfectly servicable model that's a couple years old for $30-40 or so. I have an Adams A3 which I know is in that price range at most yet it's still a very solid club. Adams, Nickent and all the big names make good hybrids.

Played with this gentleman who was once a scratch golfer but a disease damaged his spine. He plays 2-3 times a week at my local golf course and plays really good.

one hand swing, keeps it in the fairway and an all round nice guy.

If I have to guess, Bob shot a few pars and probably shot in the high 80s or low 90s. That pic was taken by his friend who had a camera with him. I did not ask Bob directly but asked his friend if it would be OK. His friend said it is not a problem at all and Bob wouldn't mind it one bit. I wanted to make sure I was not hurting any sentiments.

I found this club in my hybrid search:

Adams Golf- LH Idea Tech OS Hybrid Iron/Wood Graphite

It's like 70 bucks shipped. I'm thinking that's pretty good for the long haul.
The only problem is it's only available in 23º with a senior-lite graphite shaft. This raised a red flag as something I probably don't want as a reasonably athletic 27 year old.
This is something I should avoid, yes?

Edit: wow missed this one. seems to have the 19º and 22º options. Adams Golf- LH Idea Tech A4 OS Hybrid Graphite This is more like it right?
