that's a one way miss: always right. some folks have a two way miss (snap hook (left) + hard slice (right)) which is a different situation.

Played with an older dude (early 70s) this weekend who was both inspiring and incredibly annoying. Not really the best ball striker (but not got himself into trouble), but his short game was incredible. He was -3 through nine, -4 after ten before settling back for a 70. Never did anything super special. Just played super consistent.

My two misses are a slight-to-mid push (most of the time), or a hard pull. It's always an adventure.

there are really only three things that cause a slice:

1. club path out to in at impact

2. club face open to path at impact

3. gear effect from heel strikes

these are often interrelated, and there are multiple reasons why you do one or more, but if you can sort those out, no more slice

These are my common misses when I set up for my fade driver shot. My hard pull is when I close the clubface a little too much, and my slight push is often a high toe bomber. If I'm aiming left properly, the push results in my best drives of the day.

sounds like the father of one of the guys in our group (RIP Charlie). i forget the exact number but he shot his age (80's) something like 45 times in a row. short and laser straight off the tee, master of the 3w and 5w (had to be because of his lack of distance), and had hands like Seve around the greens. he mostly scored on the par 3s and 5s, and had more one putt pars than anyone else i've ever seen.

Talk about a bad beat!!

How a golfer was tied for the lead on the final hole, made an eagle and lost

I'm right handed. Often, especially after a drive, my left thumb hurts. It's right in the area of my palm, the knuckle too nearest the palm. I'm guessing there has to be something wrong with my grip.

Can you have someone take a picture of it and then post it here?

Do any of you mid handicappers hit better on the course than on the range? I’m a 12 and I swear I develop the shanks at least 1/3rd of the time when I’m practicing. For example: yesterday I went to do a quick 30 min session to work on various 50-100 yard shots. Warmed up and first 10 minutes felt great. Next 15 minutes were literally shanks almost every shot I tried to hit no matter what I did. Never happens that bad on the course.

Does anyone have Pinehurst hookups or know any members that can help with tee times? I'm going out there the first weekend in October and we're hoping to play #2 on Friday 10\2. Our problem is, unless you're staying at the resort(we're not) or know a member(we don't) that can make a tee time for you, tee times don't open up to the public until the day before. For peace of mind I'd like to have something set up a bit earlier than that. There's only two of us and from what I've read there's a good chance we'll be able to get on, but I'd like to make it a sure thing if possible. Figured it was worth asking in case someone knows a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy etc.

I don't know anyone but can tell you from experience it should not be a problem. If you are willing to split up as singles I would go as far as to say you would be guaranteed to get on.

I doubt we'll split up into singles but the feedback I'm getting a few other places are similar to what you said......it's more likely than not we'll be able to get on. Fingers crossed.

Must be interlocked. The classic golf grip.

Anyone who isn't Jack Nicklaus or Tiger Woods should go overlap.

I talked to a golf pro today. My grip is fine. I think I'm rolling my right wrist over as I follow through.

My golf course has an indoor range for the winter, and they just installed a simulator with a trackman in it. Over the last year I've been picking up some ball speed as well as making some swing changes, and its taken me the whole season to figure out my iron distances. This should be sweet.

This is the first year that the Golf Association of Michigan is using the USGA"s GHIN system and there is something about their handicap calculator I don't get.

I asked it to compute my course handicap for the course I played yesterday. Index 11.7, 70.3/130/par 71. When I just pull the course up on the app, it says for the blue tees the par is 69. Which it clearly isn't. The lower par inflates my course handicap - it says I should get 15 shots instead of the 13 I should get.

This isn't the first time I've seen that happen -- for everything but the back back tees it seems to take shots off the par.

Is there some explanation for this?

Is this really true? I know when I was taught very young, it was interlock.

Then, about 10-15 years later when I picked it up again and began playing seriously (about 10 years ago) I relearned with overlap. However I'm considering going back to interlock, as I am finding a lot of inconsistency with my grip.

I've seen from a lot of various teachers/clips that advocate it doesn't really matter whether it is ten finger, interlock or overlap -- do what feels most comfortable, provided the club is sitting in the hands/fingers properly.

Interlock is just too ingrained in me to get out of it.
