Do you have a dome you can hit in? I know when I lived up north they had those during the winter.

Rogue is back in the bag and confirmed good for me. Mavrik is on the BST on GolfWRX.

No domes handy though there are some simulator places. If I get antsy enough I’ll hit Carl’s or somewhere else that has a range open.

This is a great post! I'm in the Midwest, so I understand. just checked my new Phantom GPS for the 5th time and made sure it had the courses downloaded that I usually play as well as a couple New Orleans courses. It did, just like the last 4 times.

Next week is demo days and my wife and I have free fittings from Taylormade. Mine is a short game fitting. I'm anxious to see what that is like. I've been fit for all my other clubs. Hers is a full bag fitting. She's new to golf (last year basically was her first) and I don't know how much she will benefit from it, but at least it will give her a chance to see what it's like to hit "real" golf clubs. Right now she has a $300 starter set that included the bag.

We aren't planning on buying anything and eventually she will get a full bag fitting from Carl's and I will probably get a short game fitting from them as well, but we are both pretty anxious to get back at it, so why not? Or maybe she will just start out with a long game fitting from Carl's instead of full bag. I'm not sure which way she should go. Sure, lessons would help, but I'm sure better clubs would also help.

Does anyone have experience with warrior custom golf? I see mixed reviews online with bad ones going back to 2011, and maybe they've recently righted the ship. My father in law said they will send him clubs and he just has to pay the shipping. Free clubs for just shipping costs? I think he's missing something.

I would stay far, far, far away. No recent experience, but everyone I've ever talked to that signed up with them said they were miserable to deal with.

I played in an event they sponsored once many year ago. As a door prize every participant got a Warrior wedge of some loft. So many people just abandoned them that I easily assembled a full set (iirc 48-50-52-54-56-60) and had fun trying to hit ridiculous shots with them the next day. They weren't the worst clubs ever but I think I threw them out when I moved.

A question for you folks about when an iron feels like a "long" iron.

I know that most instructors advocate that the golf swing is the golf swing, and fundamentally there is no difference between an 8 iron swing and a 5 iron swing.

I am not sure this adage applies to 15+ 20+ etc hdcp folks and people with lower clubhead speeds, as there are plenty of reasons why a golfer with a bunch of swing faults is going to find an 8 iron easier to hit than a 5 iron (and maybe vice versa??)

I am interested in hearing from some consistent players on the following.

Do you have a spot in your iron game where your swing at least "feels" different as you go from one club to another, and if so, where does that occur?

For the last few years at the beginning of the golf season a 7 feels like a short iron and 6 iron and up feels like a bit of a different swing...can't really describe how... it just does.

Nearing mid season that spot occurs between a 6 and 5, and by September it is between a 5 and 4.

I am in my late 50's and am thinking this just might be linked to flexibility, and I could be having trouble matching posture with a good takeaway and turn with the longer irons, and thus I don't get into a good downswing slot as easily as I do with an 8 iron (for example).

I just find this interesting as I often start the golf season with some hybrids that eventually get replaced by a 5 and 4 iron, as during the year the distance in my hybrids gets "jumpy" and the 5 and 4 irons become easier to hit and control.

My irons start feeling "different" to me when I go from the 7 iron to the 6 iron. No science to it but that's when I start to not feel as precise with my iron game. I don't think there is any swing difference for me though.

No off-season for me though so it feels like that all the time

my mental condition which makes me think there's a difference in feel happens between 6i and 5i, and was between 7i and 6i up until a year or so ago (same set of irons). i've also quit trying to play the 6i & 5i like my 9i or PW so that may have something to do with the modest improvement.

Great experience for my wife with the fitting. He determined that she didn't need a full set of clubs. 3w, 6h,7h I think it was. Didn't get a chance to do the irons. Strangely, to me at least, her drive went as far as her 3w, 135yards on average. She doesn't use a driver now because the 3w goes as far with her cheap set. I thought they'd be able to get her into a driver, so I was a little disappointed. She loved hitting a real club, so she's happy.

Is it because of her swing speed, I wonder? Perhaps when we get a full fitting with all the manufacturers they'll find something. And that TM driver is kinda ugly too.

Correction. 125 yds was her 3w distance. She hit a few combinations of driver and 127.8 looks to be her best. Ball speed 85mph, launch angle 19.8, spin 2703, peak height 12.8yds, carry 103, total 127.8yds.

The driver did seem to have 10 more yards of carry than the 3w now that I look closer, but the ball speed was about the same as was the overall distance . Seems odd.

My wife is 5 feet tall and shoots around 55 per 9 holes and never plays a driver. She hits her 3W just as far or even farther because of better contact, shorter shaft, etc

She just can't get over the feeling that the driver feels waaayy different while her 3W feels just like a bigger-headed 5W. Also, she said the driver is the only club that hurts her hands/fingers.

We are going to try and work on it again, but at her age and with her swing speed...if she never plays a driver again she really is not losing anything. She can tag the 3w pretty good relative to her other clubs.. Comfort and confidence means a lot when you are a 30+ handicap like she is... (and she is the funnest person to golf with, ever....)...

Shouldn't a short game (wedge) fitting also include chipping around the green and not just full shots using Trackman off an artificial surface? I'm in Michigan and can't find a place that offers that. Carl's is the biggest around and they have you hit off of the matt.

Or is it pretty much predetermined what bounce I'll need because the grass is all pretty much the same? I'm not going to tailor the wedge I use for the turf conditions. I will use the same 54 or 58 wedge everywhere I play. I'm not good enough to need to do that

Answering my question, I got some bad information before and apparently miles of golf does recommend to wait until the weather clears because they want to do a wedge fitting off the grass. There will be some chipping as well. Carls golfland said that all of their fittings are done off of a matt but then they would take you to the grass area and have you had a couple balls with the club you were fit with from hitting off the mats. That seems silly. With wedges especially, I could see there being a big difference between hitting off the mat and grass. Looks like I will be going to Miles of golf for that. It's a full trackman fitting as well.

Do sponsored pros have to use new equipment every year it becomes available? Or can I use their old stuff?

Was looking at my stats so far this year.

Holes played: 520
Birdies: 55
Eagles: 1
Under par %: 10.77

So basically 1 birdie per 9 holes.

The stock price of Callaway Golf is down roughly 64% in the last 5 weeks. In the same span, Titleist is down half that. I’ve never been a fan of Callaway or Taylor Made’s business model and I’m concerned this could be the tipping point towards bankruptcy.

I'm not particularly brand loyal. I had Titleist clubs for 25 years and always had a Taylormade driver. A few years back I was fit for clubs and the P790 were far and away the best..... So I guess I'd be bummed also because the clubs fit me well.

This would REALLY piss me off if golf courses are closed too! How am I supposed to practice social distancing?? Is it the same in Ohio?

golf courses should be ok with minimum precautions........

BUT, i think in short order anything non-essential will be closed. the authorities rightly don't have confidence that the population can self-police itself.

new series on golf channel. "swing expedition" (with chris como).. anyway, at 3:30 pm today (eastern time and monday), he has an episode with Scott Fawcett.. it was on earlier too and i'm watching it on dvr. didn't see it on tomorrow or anything.

If the weather is decent I may hit up a closed golf course anyway -- walking of course and social distancing and **** -- and settle up with them later. I'm sure the police will have better things to do than arrest a solo golfer.
