Yep. Only reason to do your own is if you plan to do it more often than just when they are worn out. I like to tinker and I'm always trying out different shafts and stuff, so it's easier for me to regrip at home in those cases than to have to make a trip to the shop every time, so I keep an extra few grips on hand at all times. If I were just regripping my set once a year or whatever, I'd just drop them off at the shop and pay the extra $14.

Learned last week that the club my grandparents belonged to forever is shutting down. It's not a huge surprise, I guess -- there were financial issues 15 years ago and it was sold and went semi-private -- but it's still a little jarring to think that the property won't be a golf course any longer.

Two of my ten favorite courses ever played have already shut down in the last couple years ... might have to rearrange that list and take all the good courses off it so they stick around.

It's always sad when they shut down and apartments are built in their place

Is there any chance the PGA gets rid of the books that players use to read the greens?

Playing a The Grint event at Innisbrook Copperhead Saturday. I think they are trying to get a tour going in the Tampa area this year. Figured it was worth it as the event is as much as a GC Am Tour event plus they give you a fee tour membership for the year and $50 off a future event later in the year.

Anyone have experience playing these? Their website for stuff looks like it was built in the early 2000's.

I have some nice second hand Mizuno MP53s. Is it possible to get these rehshafted, new grips and lies/loft etc all customised like a custom fit? How much would that cost if so? I am not really willing to go full custom fit brand new irons yet and I love the feel of these so I was thinking why not custom fit these heads?

Are they forged? If so it seems like you should be able to reshaft them and bend them to fit your specs. Not sure what the cost would be. There are lots of others around here who know way more about this stuff than me. Paging Bo....

On Friday I'm playing with a guy I used to work with back in the day. Last time I played with him was about 10 years ago, and he had a set of the Corey Pavin Cleveland VAS irons he bought in 1995. He told me his is still playing them.... lol.

A relatively inexpensive way to do it is to go to a demo day and see what shaft they fit you in along with any lie changes needed. Take those specs and look for a used set of those shafts on someplace like GolfWRX or ebay. As long as they are not graphite you can find shaft pulls pretty easily.

Then take those to a shop and have them installed and bent for you.

Unfortunately, this won't work very well.

Part of a proper shaft fitting involves the head, or the weight and properties of the head. You put a shaft in a pure blade and it's going to feel and react totally different compared to the exact same shaft in a Ping G700.

Since those Mizuno's are forged, you would be able to adjust the loft and lie up to 2 degrees safely. Any more than that is pushing it and the adjustment would not hold very well.

Everybody is different, but I would ask if you wanted to go through that much trouble on older secondhand heads. There is no right or wrong however.

Disclaimer, after running a top 100 fitting studio, I do have a little something against wanting a total custom fit but then scrounging around for eBay shafts, installation, loft/lie, etc because they don't want to pay for it. It won't be near the same if you go that route.

Basically I like the clubs but I reckon they are half an inch short in the shaft and the lie is probably slightly too flat. I've been told this by a pro. Might be better shafts in terms of sticfny/weight out there for me too. Shelling out for a full custom fit on good new irons is going to be nearly a grand (or more for truly top end). Just not willing to spend that right now but I wondered if a simple shaft refit and lie adjustment might get me most of the benefits at a much cheaper price with my current weapons. Yeah they are forged but cavity back. Soft feel but forgiving. I probably should be using something a bit more friendly at my current standard but hopefully I will grow into them.

I get irrationally angry at horribly stupid rulings like that.

I shouldn't care and it doesn't affect me in the slightest, but stupidity on that level is just somehow insulting on a personal level.

You just cannot ban someone for 3 years for giving someone the middle finger. Even if it wasn't deserved it would be such a terribly stupid penalty for such a minor "offense" and in this case it was extremely deserved.

He's just lucky he didn't do that on the North Korean tour. The penalty would have been much worse.

I was thinking more of the Singapore tour. Probably would have cut off that finger after caning him.

How sad is the turnout for my club championship starting tomorrow:

Gross division from the tips: 12
Net division from the whites: 8
Ladies: 9

Sad.

$60 plus normal cart fee. You get breakfast before and lunch after. Not positive on the number of members but I would guess in the 900 range (we have 36 holes). Not all of them golf and some are snowbirds too.
