I need to remember this. Great point. I ended up stopping with about 12 balls left because I was wondering, "why am I still swinging? I'm tired." And that was after hitting some easy wedges. I gave them to a dad and his kids.

i use my paper scorecard to track the following

Score
FIR
GIR
Putts

if you create an account at the GHIN website one of the options is to post scores Hole-by-Hole (HBH) and you can also use advanced scoring to track the FIR, GIR, putts, up/downs, sand saves, penalties, and the like. below is a snip from one of my better rounds on a 67.7/124 course. you most likely will have to enter the hole by hole course stats the first time you enter scores on a course, but the site will remember them for future entries (provided you're playing from the same tees). when you use advanced scoring the GHIN website will allow you to run a variety of reports that track the stats you enter, one of which is stats compared to similar golfers which is what i posted above.

you first enter your score, then your putts. it will auto-calc your GIR from that because it's obvious, and then just enter your FIR. i don't track sand saves or up/downs, or track my drive yardage but you can if you have the tech.

With a foursome usually someone can but with one other person and when I'm out by myself it's a lot more difficult. Or one of us sees where it lands but then can't find it when we get there. Makes me feel stupid lol

You took club advice from a golfer who shoots 88, that's mistake #1. But why does he think you need a Vokey 56.14? Just because he likes it? That's awful, a good club for one is not necessarily a good club for another. So why is it a good club for you? Do you need 14 degrees of bounce? Are the turf conditions really soft? Is your path around the green steep or shallow? See, the answer to these questions are why or why not this type of wedge could be good for you.

In a weird way, it's probably a good thing you got it cheap on eBay. It's real easy to buy a fake on eBay, you have no idea whether or not you've got the real thing. And if it truly sucks for you, you're not out that much money.
Ha this is a very fair point. I had no idea fake golf clubs were even a thing lol. I'm pretty sure the one I got was real. He's an uncle and the lowest club in my bag was a gap wedge so he's probably right. I played 9 at the local executive course yesterday and my short game was SO much better so I think I can get used to the Volkey. But your point is very well taken and I'll consider that in the future. All my irons were going left and I decided I'm going back to how I was driving before my lesson though.

The Clicgear 3.5+ this thread mentioned is awesome btw! Makes jumping out for a quick round so much easier and has everything right there. Thank you so much for the recommendation

Not pro v1s either I am not good enough yet to be using such expensive balls, will just not be economical with how wayward I am. What's a good value ball with high compression and soft round the greens? Like a cheaper tour ball that comes in yellow? I can't use super soft balls they go nowhere for me but medium would be fine I think. I am thinking Chrome Soft or chrome soft X with the truvis from googling.

Another question, I know putts per round is not very meaningful but what's standard for high/mid handicappers in putts per round and putts per GIR? 36 putts Wednesday, 38 today. Do I need that to be like 32 and 2.00 putts per GIR if I am aiming for mid handicap in the short term?

What's a good GIR and FIR to be aiming for with a mid handicap goal while I'm at it? 50% for both?
I am less then 1 lost per round assuming I am keeping score and actually look for it. Gets ugly if the rough is stupid long and then I might lose 3 or 4 and find 6 that aren't mind. My course has tons of trees but only ob on the perimeter.

Don't get used to wedges get fit for ones that are right for your swing/aoa and your typical turf conditions.

That is assuming you are a wedge player who can hit the center of the face.

My lost ball rate is very swongy. Obv depends on the course. I'll go a couple rounds where I lose 0-1 and then rifle half a dozen into god knows where.

Best way to do it still is to order a box of 100 lightly used/near mint from these websites. I ordered a box of 100 Project A's for like $100 maybe 3 years ago and haven't gone through them yet. Throw in all the dozen packs I get through work and donations and I never buy balls anymore. I remember the days of buying 36-packs of Noodles.

I got a great deal on two dozen yellow Z stars for £48. Only 2 quid a ball. Let's see how long they last!

This right here. I am cheap but non decent balls are annoying from 40 yards. The mint ones are always great for 30% of new

Shot a 116 on the nice course I shot a 114 on last time out but was actually really happy with that. Was with a slightly rowdier crew and it was hot so the beers kicked in on the last few holes.

On another note. Anyone ever done a golf weekend to myrtle beach or somewhere in that vicinity? My one brother in law lives by me but the other lives in Charlotte and he has a kid so looking to go down by him and do a weekend. Ideally play 36 holes each day and have some decent places (we all love breweries with good beer) to go out at night but obv arent chasing girls or anything. Any recs? Myrtle beach or anywhere for that matter

Myrtle is lots of fun (we went to Legends resort, very reasonably priced). Michigan has some good reasonably priced golf too if the southern stuff is too warm for the time of year you are going. Treetop resort is a good one there. Little bit further though maybe not for just a weekend.

Yea I'm probably not going to Michigan lol. My brother in law in Charlotte has a 1-year old so ideally somewhere he can drive to and minimize the time he is away. My other brother in law and I live in NJ and have no ides yet so can fly anywhere. If we were to all fly somewhere I'd prob go west like Arizona or somewhere.

Legends looks awesome. Tell me more. How long did you go for? How many holes did you play per day? Anything around there or mostly just stay on site after golf? Their website is kind of confusing. Ideally looking maybe to do Fri-Sun with 36-36-18 or something like that. Is that too ambitious? Not cost effective? I've never done a golf trip so any info is helpful. Did you bring your own clubs or rent clubs there? Do they rent clubs for the weekend or charge per round? I have ****ty clubs right now and prob not worth the hassle and price of flying with them

Went for 5 days and played 18 per day. They have townhouses right on the resort we stayed in those. They also have a pub and a chick fil a basically on the resort too, along with a pool, driving range and some other stuff to pass the time when not playing. Didnt leave the resort much except for dinners and 1 day of outlet shopping. Never saw the beach.

We brought our own clubs so I cant comment on rentals and played all their courses. The plantation course about 45 mins away was extremely nice and very highly ranked so make sure you play that one once. I'm sure you could play 5 rounds in 3 days but it will probably be kind of painful unless you're a hardcore seasoned golfer. Felt like it was all great value for money.

On average I lose 1 ball every couple rounds it seems like. Some days 3-4 in a single round just because the rough is long and they are impossible to find it seems like.

I really like the chrome soft myself, but I second what others are saying about buying used balls. Get at least the near mint condition balls or better. These are as good as buying new balls any day.

I prefer a white ball but play the Truvis soccer balls in the fall here in New England. Nothing is more infuriating than pounding a drive right down the middle and not being able to find it because of all the leaves. Would strongly recommend.

I went down a rabbit hole and apparently (like lots of things golf related) there are some serious collectors of all the different kinds of Truvis balls. Some collections are damn impressive actually.

Ha I want these exact balls for the reasons you mentioned, visibility and I love soccer lol. But dont want to spend $45 on balls I lose in a couple rounds. Any knockoffs off the pattern out there?

I love the yellow soccer balls. Seems they are harder and harder to find now, but once in awhile you can find them used as well around $2 a ball. I find them on the facebook golf for sale pages mainly.

You can buy a template to put over the ball and color it in yourself if you want. It's obv not gonna last like a truvis but it's a free option.

I think I lose 1-2 per round. Keep in mind Florida golf has water, jungle or houses lining every single hole.

Here is a cheat sheet to calculate Strokes Gained Putting for anybody who wants to use it. The data is from a few years ago but it's close enough.
Code:
Distance	1 putt	2 putts	3 putts
3 0.1	-0.9	-1.9
4 0.2	-0.8	-1.8
5 0.3	-0.7	-1.7
6 0.4	-0.6	-1.6
7 0.4	-0.6	-1.6
8 0.5	-0.5	-1.5
9 0.6	-0.4	-1.4
10 0.6	-0.4	-1.4

Haha!

I use this online calculator a lot: https://www.golfrankingstats.com/str...ed-calculator/

If you leave the handicap part empty it goes against tour average. But when I putt my ass off it's fun to see that I still only putt barely better than tour average. But on those days it's like +5 strokes gained putting against a typical 7 handicap.

My best ever round SGP was about +4. I made 2 GIR and shot 72. Included were 4 putts outside of 15 feet. I also made a 60 footer from off the green that did not count.
