Yes. Any time you reshaft a club it changes it's ability as every shaft performs differently. In this case the Hi-Rev is 5g heavier and the bend profile seems to be slightly different.

So yes, it's going to change the club. But it's doubtful you would notice these minor changes.

Where do people stand on leaving the flag stick in? Played my first round of the new year Sunday, and all my playing partners were set on leaving it in for every putt. I had no problem with it being in for long and medium putts, but needed to take it out for the short ones; found it too distracting.

Depends which flag stick it is. Only higher end courses have the skinny fiberglass ones that help.

same as you we've been leaving it in for longish to medium putts and pulling it for shorter ones. we'll also pull it if it doesn't seat properly in the hole and leans in one direction or if the wind is blowing it crooked.

I think I'd played about 8 rounds of golf in Denver last year by this point. Got to hit balls for like 2 hours on Tuesday, which was really nice.. then 5 inches of freezing rain/snow yesterday to depress me.

Ready for spring.

Re: MISC/RANDOM/BS Golf Chatter Thread

If you plan on making the putt you should take it out. If you're just screwing around and don't care if it goes in or not then leave it in. For me the most usual time to leave it in is if I play a chip/pitch shot that ends up in tap in range, I will leave it in and make my tap in and get out of the way for the next guy that is chipping as well.

That's funny, I hit balls on Tuesday as well because I knew the storm was coming. It's definitely been ugly this winter. To add insult to injury part of my back fence blew down in the blizzard yesterday. The indoor simulators at the Sports Stable in Superior have been my friend. If you want to get and play in the Denver area once the weather gets better give me a holler.

I'm down to get together and play in Denver too. I live up in Glenwood Springs but I get down to visit family and friends occasionally. And if either of you are up this way and want to play there are some fun tracks in the area.

Sounds good. I could also meet you partway at Eagle Ranch or Keystone sometime. Keep in touch when things warm up.

Anyone game Cobra's One Length irons and if so, how do you like them? Tried some F9s out today and they simmed well but distance was a little funky. Looking forward to testing them once the snow melts

Don't even think about it. You won't be able to get the 5-iron in the air or hit it anywhere, and you'll hit the wedge straight up into the air without any control. Unless you have tour quality shaft lean and are able to already hit a 7-iron 190 yards, it's not going to work.

I currently have the 4 and 5i in the cobra one length in my bag with the rest of my irons being a stock set of Apex Pros. I went and got fit for just those two clubs and I really like them. Bo is right about them as they do have a very low ball flight. I am more consistent with them however and haven't found the need to go back. There is the occasional shot where you could clear a tree if you had your stock 5i, but know damn well you're screwed with the one length. There's also the shots from the trees where you gotta keep it low and you can put a full stock swing on the one length and get the extra distance where you would have been punching out short with your stock club. To each their own. I don't think I would like the shorter irons in one length however, but I never tried them either so...

Re: MISC/RANDOM/BS Golf Chatter Thread

Put in a practice session today after not picking up a club in a week and a half which is a looong time for me. Managed to put in one of my best practice sessions in ages. Only can think of one bad swing. So now I'm guaranteed to shoot 90+ tomorrow.

Was over in Hong Kong and Macau. Damn Macau has grown so much since I was last there 5 years ago. Too bad they are down to just 2 poker rooms now. Table games are tough as they start at 300 HKD minimums.

Good news there is a new course on Cotai (or at least new to me) near Galaxy Casino. Looks pretty good, although I didn't play it.

I haven't picked up a club since October. Winter ftw. Why do I live here?

MISC/RANDOM/BS Golf Chatter Thread

I feel you. Courses just starting to open here as all the snow is about gone. Went to the golf expo/convention Friday with the wife they had in town and bought a couple rounds to nicer courses for cheap and got a couple free rounds at local spots. Was kinda disappointed in the selection of clubs for sale as Iím in the market for a new putter but fun was had and has me excited for the season to begin.

Yeah I answered that question 18 years ago and moved six months after that. I was single back then and my job allows me to live wherever I want.

Do they normally have clubs for sale at shows like this, outside of non-big-brand-name vendors trying to sell their goods? I'd imagine for the larger companies, it's like a car show where they are just there to market their stuff, not sell it? I haven't been to any shows like this so I guess I'm more asking.

Re: MISC/RANDOM/BS Golf Chatter Thread

So there were two/three larger local golf shops that had a TON of used merchandise but little to no putters. I would have thought there would have been a couple Scottyís because they have pretty high used resale value.

There was also a whole large section of every large manufacturer (Titleiest, TM, Ping, etc.) where you could demo clubs on their launch monitors. I assume you could purchase those too but didnít test anything out.

Re: MISC/RANDOM/BS Golf Chatter Thread

I played in a pro-am for the Latin American tour yesterday, which was fun and humbling at the same time. Our pro was Evan Harmeling, who is somewhat famous for winning a car in an event and giving it to his caddy.

https://www.pgatour.com/la/en/news/2...argentina.html

I am a five handicap right now, and played pretty well despite the fact that the wind was screaming and there was free beer. The biggest takeaway for me was the fact that to improve right now, I have to work on consistency. My good shots were fine, but my bad shots were horrible. He was about 50 yards longer than me off the tee, and on a par 3 he hit a 5 iron from 233 and I hit a 6 iron from 175 (thus the humbling part.) But at my age and skill level is seems like trying to add distance would be a dumb idea, and I should just focus on eliminating bad misses. One the other hand, I parred 18 (a super difficult par 4 that was playing dead into the wind) after seven beers, so maybe that's a winning strategy.

As far as his game, he was solid all around, and hit two or three wow shots, one of which was a hybrid from 290 to the left side of the green on a par 5, when he had to be on the left side of the green to have any shot at birdie/eagle.

One thing about pro golf is that the talent gap between the top guys and the ones like him is much smaller than the money gap. I could easily see him on the pga tour in two or three years, or he could just as easily be going to grad school. The margins are that slim from a talent perspective. But the money differences are obviously massive. It would drive me nuts to be that good, and yet a putt or two per round away from having a solid pro career.

Re: MISC/RANDOM/BS Golf Chatter Thread

Question about attack angle for my driver.

If I get it to +1-5 that should optimize all the res of my numbers right? Seems like a pretty easy cultpret that I should work on fixing, best advice?

That was my best drive of the session too, most my other drives had -3,-4 attack angles.

My irons also angles of attack are way lower than optimal but I’m not sure if that’s as big a problem for me atm

Re: MISC/RANDOM/BS Golf Chatter Thread

played golf today with a guy who shot 76 from the blacks at a very tough course. long story but he only had 5 clubs and not a driver. and heavily sanded greens and wet spring conditions.

anyway, he grew up playing with jason day. said jason was 10 to 15 strokes better than him. i'm thinking how can that be. but i think it is. said he is a 2, used to be a +1 or +2. and we were thinking competitive golf, not friendly practice round. tough course too would be assumed........ guy had amazing game. but just not that much whip in his swing.

It really is crazy how good the guys on mini tours are. And yeah I'm always impressed how long and accurate they are in that 200-240 range. Must be nice to calmly drop a 6 iron by the hole from 200.
