If all your life consisted of was practicing for the bet , you would win.

It depends on how much money is on the line, and what your motivations are. Keep in mind your friend has a much better perspective of where you're at , and what it would take to get to somewhere close to his level.

Almost zero. Unless you plan to play/practice 3-5 days a week and study the golf swing hard, you have no chance. Also, I'm not sure your choice of playing the ladies tees is the best bet unless your buddy's weakness is his short game (anything inside 100yards) and you plan to practice the short game religiously. Which you should anyway if you want any chance from any tees. I have a friend that has been trying to catch me with the hopes of playing even for many years and he plays more than I do, at least 1-2 days a week more. He started as about a 15 handicap and I was a 3. After maybe 8 years he has gotten to where he could randomly beat me even if I have a bad round and he has a great one, but this is maybe 3 rounds out of 100. He is now a 7hc. If we played the ladies tees, I would beat him by 5 shots a side easily. I'm not saying it would be the same for you, because everyone's game is different, but he just doesn't practice short game enough. From the ladies tees, a <5hc will almost never make a bogey and should certainly make several birdies.

Kinda like what Bo said about underestimating how hard it is to get to a low hc... It is pretty easy to get better, but it is very hard to get good and nearly impossible to become great. To go from a 20+ hc for someone that never plays to a 10 hc is pretty easy if you have any ability at all and practice enough. But to go from a 10 to someone that can beat a 5 in one out of five tries is very hard. I hope you try and report back. You will have fun doing it anyway. Getting better at golf is the most aggravating fun you'll ever have

handicaps are funny............ i play with players that the casual golf fan would think are pro-calibre (no "bad" shots, easily make par 5's in 2... usually don't play that much. 30-40 year olds who used to be much beter). anyway, invariably they are 3 to 6 handicappers. but then i understand 70 year olds at country clubs can have lowish handicaps. it just din oesn't calibrate to me.

what's the lowest someone can reasonably shoot if they are challenged at making half the greens in 2?.....

from my perspective, the difference in one set of tees (blacks vs. blues in summer, blues vs. whites in wet winter) is pretty big. much more significant than the 3 or 4 suggested strokes. (depends on the course and tee staggering of course). one set of tees basically is difference between very manageable vs. challenging approach shots.

Club championship in November? Lol Florida.

A 147 slope with only 6600 yards is insane. I assume you better hit it straight on that course.

You could say lol Florida for just about everything

Yeah left and right are both either going to be OB, a lateral hazard or trees/swamp. It's relatively tight, more so in the fact that if you really miss one you are going to get a penalty stroke. You never see the hole again after you play it, no parallel fairways.

A grand total of 19 people signed up this year so I guess I have a top 20 locked up.

Based off of handicap I am listed as the 7th best. I wish my game was in better shape than it is. Hopefully my game kicks in once we get going.

My WITB for the foreseeable future. Bought the irons (Rocketbladez HL) many years ago, but updated them with new shafts (PX 6.0) ~2 yrs ago.

The rest is just a cobbled together selection of used clubs I got for good deals. XR16 driver (10.5* + 1) , SLDR TP 17* wood, i20 5W (18*), W/S GW & SW, MD3 wedge bent to 60*

Well I had a fitting today at True Spec Golf. Briefly I am set perfectly already in the driver.

The 3-wood I have the correct club and shaft, I could just stand to go to the 15* instead of the 13.5* that I have now.

Hybrid was good just made a settings change.

Irons I was fit for TaylorMade P790s with Project X LX 6.5 (125g). Current irons are AP2s with X100s. I was a full club longer with the TaylorMades, although I need to go look at the loft numbers to compare apples to apples.

Putting is actually where I spent the most time. There were a lot of changes to my stroke and stance and I was fit into a blade with a SuperStroke Mid-Slim 2.0 grip. In testing my Scotty X7M the grip was actually twisted a bit which (as I now know) made me line up open. I was also standing way too far away from the ball leaving the toe in the air. Fixing that along with a ball position, grip pressure, and another though leads me to be totally different. I will for sure need to practice in this area A LOT.

I will do a more detailed post once I get the numbers emailed to me.

Edit: AP2 7 iron loft: 34* (6-iron 30*)
P790 7 iron loft 30.5*

Bingo - there is my distance difference.

Ok, but did the clubs feel better? Were you consistently more accurate? Did you get the price of the fitting taken off the price of the clubs?

OK here are the numbers from my fitting:

First on the irons. My AP2 7 iron was measured at 32* and the P790 7 iron was 31*. As you can see on the smash factor I was getting better numbers with the P790. The Project X LZ 6.5 was a surprisingly good shaft for me. Last time I tried one it was flighting way too high for me. It was totally different this time. Dispersion was about the same from old to new.

My 3 hybrid numbers the only change from old to new was going from 21* to 19* and adding 1* of lie.

My 3 wood I was not hitting good and I think I am going to go to a 15* (currently have a 13.5*. With the hybrid and 3 wood I will then kick the 5 wood out of the bag, although 3 hy and 5 wood can be interchanged depending on course.

My driver I was hitting really well. No changes were recommended there at all. My swing speed was in the 113.5 range giving me a smash factor of 1.49. Now if I could only reproduce this on the course....

On an ideal strike, sure. In reality, no. The best smash factor I ever seem to get is 1.46. I would say knock 20 yards off of those numbers and you are getting closer to reality. Carrying it 280-285 with 10 yards of roll is my normal strike.
