I used to miss on the heel quite a bit it hardly ever appears now. My miss is always out on the toe (due to being so vertical in my swing). Dropping the back foot is a band-aid for sure. Our assistant pro didn't want to do it but it was a fix that was needed to make any progress in the short term.
Slap shot - yes! I have been accused of that before.
If I add any more distance I'm going to have to find another club as I will lose golf balls off the end of the range non-stop (it already happens quite a bit now)!
I was thing king of the closed stance band aid. It really can work for a while and if the misses are on the toe that is playable.
I am working really hard on setting up square with feet together the opening the front foot and not letting my back foot drop back. I had no choice as my driver went to hell and hit nothing but heel pull cuts that went nowhere.
I feel like I have turned a corner as I can o hard with driver and not worry about where the ball is on the face. I am learning I get some odd giant blocks dead right pushes when the clubs drops way below the plane but that isn't a huge deal.
Not even saying you have to fix the issue or anything just relating on my issues with that same set up. My arms weren't as extended as much as yours but the rest is oddly the same.
Oddly enough my low point control on irons has gotten better with irons as well. Nice bonus.
I will try to get a video of my newish swing tomorrow and get a side by side with my old one.
