How often will you have to hit a long iron? Work on your chipping and putting!

Playing from 6900 on a par 71 so I will have more than usual. Plus 3 of the 4 par 3's will play long.

Those could be real handicaps, or they could also be vanity ones. I played a tournament once with a guy who was supposed to be like +3.5. He shot 81 on a super easy golf course..... He was probably a 5 at best.

Re: MISC/RANDOM/BS Golf Chatter Thread

Found a new level of laziness at the club today. We have a driving range with tees on both sides. One is open on any given day. The last 2 days the tees on the far side of the range were open. You have to drive by the other set (which has a sign that says "This Tee Closed") to get to the far end.

Some old guys (read 70s) love to just stop at the near side and hit from there because apparently 30 seconds matters to them. The range is 260-300y long depending on tee placement. After going through my bag I get to 3-wood and roll a couple just short of their feet as the warning shot. They keep hitting. Out comes the driver and I land one over their heads, then they finally move.

This has happened 2 days in a row. Guess they can't take a hint.

Entirely possible since the last 20 scores dated back 3 and 4 years for the two.

If you have to drive by them, you should give them a heads up. Just blasting driver at them seems like a poor play on your part even if they're totally in the wrong.

I hate double sided ranges soooooooo much. There's always some old guy on the other side, no matter what.

Re: MISC/RANDOM/BS Golf Chatter Thread

Wrecked the shaft on my 3 iron this week in an off-course accident. Of course I needed it on the last par 3 today. Slightly bummed that I'll have to get a different shaft put in it - Ping doesn't make the KT-M shaft anymore - but at least I have one other non-original shaft already.

That's a good excuse to ditch the 3 iron and replace it with a hybrid.

I have a closet full of hybrids I can’t hit. And it’s an Eye2 so the loft is about the same as a modern 5 iron.

I have a closet full of hybrids I can't hit too, but now I also have a g400 2 hybrid that's the best/easiest club I've ever hit and goes almost as far as my 3W

And the Eye2 has none of the new technology that gets the ball up in the air.

Maybe 1% of the golfers out there have any business hitting a 3-iron.

The G400 hyrids are awesome. So are the Titleist H1 and H2. Hell, the Rogue hybrids are also amazingly easy to hit.

In other words, go to a store and try the new hybrids.

I'm going to remember that next time I hit a low iron shot and I'll yell "DAMN YOU OLD TECHNOLOGY" in your honor*

Went to the closet and today's contender for a sufficiently stupid easy hybrid slash 3 iron replacement was a Ping G25 23* with stock R flex shaft. I tried the G25 hybrids at a demo day when they first came out and didn't miss a shot. No funds at the time to buy them. Picked this one up used a year or two back when I remembered how much I liked the demo. I think it lasted two rounds.

1st use: Second shot on a par 5. Usual club of choice 4 iron. Result: Pulled hard left barely outside the treeline, leaving a difficult third shot. Bogey.

2nd use: Second shot on long par 4. Usual club of choice 3 iron. Result: Big hook, somehow got through trees leaving a shortsided pitch. Bogey.

3rd use: Second shot on a par 5. Usual club of choice 5 or 6 iron. Result: Pulled left barely outside treeline, leaving a challenging third shot under and around tree limbs. Bogey.

4th use: The main event. Par 3, playing 175 yards into a slight breeze. Usual club of choice 3 iron. Yesterday I dumped a well hit 4 iron into the front left bunker. Result: Weak toe hook just short of the bunker. Mediocre pitch over the sand, bogey. Hit a second ball, carbon copy of the first shot but 10 yards further left.

Verdict: Yeah that's why it didn't stick in the bag. At a minimum, wrong shaft. Awful results, going on eBay this week.

Not sure when I'll be able to hit a demo day or Carls, so it may be a few weeks of replaying the oldies.

* Unless it was an intentionally low shot, in which case it will be thank you old technology.

Yeah that is just a super awkward cap. I am in a similar spot, 4.5. I won't touch net events but I need a really special day to compete when over half the field is between 1 and +2. I don't mind I like the challenge and don't mind donating, plus I feel I have just as much of a chance at the skins. Just way too many doubles kills.

Yeah, as someone who goes through iron sets and drivers like mad, I've found that overall the type of hybrid matters more than any other club, i.e., I flat out hate and can't hit a bunch of different hybrids, but have only slight differences between different iron sets and different drivers. And it's all individual swing/preference....Booker hates the Ping G25, and I loved them (love the G even more).

Re: MISC/RANDOM/BS Golf Chatter Thread

Because I hadn't taken it out of the bag to put it on eBay yet and tonight's match was in hand I gave the Ping G25 hybrid another chance on the par 3.

Hit it 70 yards. Fate confirmed.

Awesome. I read the article this morning. I recognized one of the FSGA guy's name in the article as he runs some of the one day events around me. Going to ask him about this next time I play in one.

This NCAA women's tournament is pretty entertaining. These girls can play. Clutch eagle on 18 got Arizona into the team finals.
