Fully private. They just offered a really great deal this year. You can see it on their website.

haha I was -1 through seven and then lost like 8 balls on the back nine to shoot over 90. Was super embarrassing and I'm certain it wasn't fun to play with me that day, but it was funny to receive that letter in the mail.

Do the players on tour need to keep track of the score(s) of the other player(s) in their group?

They are a marker for 1 person in their group. So weekends they switch cards. In a 3 ball player A keeps player B's score, player B keeps player C's score and C keeps player A's score.

Re: MISC/RANDOM/BS Golf Chatter Thread

Was crazy windy today. Had a gust blow my ball 40 feet off the green and down a little on a fairly flat green that were probably stimping only 8-8.5. Tried to hit a fade to hold the wind with driver and it ended up drawing 50 yards. Also had to hit a 3 hybrid on a 161 yard par 3.

I can see how playing under those conditions would really make you concentrate and make you a better player in the long run.

They're doing $500 which gets you full membership until the end of June and then you take over monthly dues after that which is like 230-300 based on age I think?

I walk and carry and plan on playing like 4 or 5 days a week so it's a no brainer for me since I live less than 10 minutes from the course.

*edit* sorry for the derail

Seems like a pretty good deal, and looking at the club's website they have some interesting member-friendly policies like walk anytime, no minimum spend, etc.

wow that is a great deal for the course and the area. Central Ohio is blessed with so many great courses that a deal like this is relly hard to pass up. Is it reciprocal at other courses - like "The Golf Club"...lol?

Play it if you get a chance. Old mature tree lined fairways and a great layout. I remember the greens be super slick during the weekends.

Re: MISC/RANDOM/BS Golf Chatter Thread

I just noticed a couple of people smoking right near the fairway, in the background. I don't understand how they allow smoking at a PGA Tour event. Don't the players care about the health hazards? They shouldn't have to be subject to poison while they are competing for millions of dollars.

Sometimes a tiny bit of rust isn't a big deal.

Health hazards for second hand smoke outside? Gimme a break.

I do agree that smoking shouldn't be allowed. But more for the smell and litter.

Second hand smoke (especially outside) being harmful to health is a joke. (Unless it's an allergic reaction)

Bad analogy. First of all, your example is pretty much unavoidable for me, while the PGA tour could impose whatever rules they want for their events. Second, I am a lowly omega dog while they are the cream of the crop making millions for playing golf. Their word probably has a lot more impact than mine.

They were standing right by the ropes. It could easily be inhaled by a player walking by. And even if the health hazards are not quite drastic, it's still disgusting to smell the noisome fumes. Could totally throw a player off his round.

Re: MISC/RANDOM/BS Golf Chatter Thread

I have a guy that smokes cigars non-stop when he plays. I swear he must wake up and light up immediately. Just hate it so much I make sure to not be in the same cart as him when we are paired together.

Funny part of all if it is that he is a doctor.

Re: MISC/RANDOM/BS Golf Chatter Thread

last friday i late-entried a local charity event, the alex campbell conquer cancer tournament. one of the organizers, murray, is a friend and member at our club. my wife is a special guest and plays yearly. this is year 31 for the event which has raised >million for hospice care.

murray found me room in the draw ( event is played at three courses, best low net, 4-ball, dinner after, lots of prizes) but the only spot available was at our home course, where the greens were just punched...and, i'd be in a group where i was the youngest player by a 15 years. i am 57. whatever. no pressure since we'd have no chance at prizes.

at the first tee i introduced myself to Bernie (73, 16hcp), Don (79, 28hcp), and Mr. Curtis (93, 31hcp).

i shot an 81 off a 12 hcp. six net birdies. we used my ball once.

the codgers took turns swapping net eagles. we won going away. Mr. Curtis missed an ace by a couple inches. won himself a very large bottle of crown royal. between the three of them, i think four balls missed the fairway all day. Mr. Curtis used a museum piece, wooden putter, putt side-saddle, and drained three putts >45 ft ( had only one 3-putt ).

they had fun. they talked constantly. they talked while they were teeing off, they laughed while they were putting. they talked while i was putting. they laughed while i was teeing off.

i've been fighting my course and swing for weeks. hating golf. i've been so stupid. very lucky getting paired with this group.

That's the exact reason that a 7 handicap like myself has absolutely no chance in playing net tournaments.

Did you miss the part where they won? If you can't beat em, join em.

Re: MISC/RANDOM/BS Golf Chatter Thread

and that's the exact reason my favorite group of guys are old timers that grew up playing.
there's something to be said about the unique type of seasoning someone gets after decades spent playing golf.

some of the guys i play with have been hard at it, at least twice a week, for 50+ years.
assuming an average round is 4.5 hours and a 4 mile walk (~7,000 yards).

after 50 years that's 23,400 hours and 20,800 miles....translating to almost 2 years of time on the course and a walk almost 80% of the way around the earth. add all the other miscellaneous time spent around the course and the 6 rounds in 4 days trips we take a few times a year and i'm willing to guess many of these guys have essentially hiked around the globe while chasing a little white ball.

i had a great time playing with them. perhaps part of the reason was i'd set the bar so low; don't injure anyone, don't be a dick (as Dom can attest, i can be the whingy little ***** out there).

i didn't bother to tally our score when i submitted the card, just recorded each gross and signed it. we thought we'd done well enough to get a prize (thirty years playing that event and Mr. Curtis had never won) but you never know with that format.

when they announced the winning team by last name, it wasn't mine (team captain), and we sat there for a few moments looking around, then Don looked at Bernie and said, "Hey, that's you."

Re: MISC/RANDOM/BS Golf Chatter Thread

Was accepted into the state am qualifier. I am paired up with a +0.3 and a +1.3.

Now I need to work on my game the next few weeks. I am losing the most shots in the mid to long irons. Put in a session today dedicated to those. Going to get another lesson next week to just check on where I am.
