looking at a map, I think it was Rocky Point Golf Course...it was a few miles east/southeast of Tampa Bay Downs.

I would call that very normal. It occurs on my Vokey wedges and not my irons. You can try Malcie's suggestion but it certainly doesn't hurt play at all.

Any idea on why this happened? And why with only this club? In a different golf forum people were saying that this club is defective and that I should send it back.

I've played a lot in wet weather with my 11 year old Ping G10s and never had any rust on them.

I also have some wedges that rust, but they're supposed to - I don't think the Ping irons should do so.

Thanks guys, I called Ping and they said I can just drop it off at a local retailer and get it shipped back and forth at no cost to me.

Thinking about trying to qualify for the Florida State Amateur. It's relatively cheap to attempt ($95) and the qualifier is on a course (TPC Tampa Bay) that fits my game and I know well. The tips are only 6,898 so it's not like it plays super long (although it's a par 71). You only need a 11.6 handicap to enter.

I mean I doubt I have any shot at qualifying but worth the try, right?

of course it's worth the try. it's fun to compete with people of your skill and play "for real"

Yeah playing something competitive like that on a nice course for a hundred bucks would be great.

Might as well. It isn't like you are an 11 cap and barely under. Good experience and never know when the round of your life might happen.

It is gross and the 11 max is to encourage more people. Will still be flooded with + caps. That isn't a reason not to try though.

I went ahead and registered. Only picked that course, not sure if it fills up or not.

Playing an event at Southern Hills Plantation Saturday. Pete Dye design and I have never heard a bad thing about the course. Was gonna buy a lot there about 16 years ago before I found something else. Should be a fun one.

I think the price is amazing for anyone that can play in US Open or state champ qualifiers. It's such a different experience than everything else you'll ever do (if you don't play competitively obv), plus you get to play a nice challenging course with difficult conditions for cheaper than you'd normally get to play a course like that. I'm always surprised more people don't play in things like that.

This is true, but let's look at this from a different point of view using the U.S. Open qualifier as an example. There are two types of entrants, those who are entering because they have a chance at successfully qualifying, and those who have no chance and are only entering for the reasons you listed.

Now, it is fair to those who actually have a chance to be paired with those who have no chance? Is it fair for someone shooting under par to be paired with someone shooting 90+?

Now, a state am qualifier is a little different because of the much higher handicap limitation and the fact that an over par round is still going to advance.

I get what you're saying but it's a way for the USGA and state associations to promote inclusiveness and the growth of the game. In my opinion, that should take precedence in these particular situations/qualifiers. One way to do it though is to sort the groupings by handicap. When I played competitively (in my younger days) in Sweden, that's often how it was done.

Yes, yes it is. And it's also fair for the USGA to flog and ban a <1.6 cap who shoots 90+.

Love the course. Back in the 70/80's I worked at Columbus CC and we got to play all the Privates. Back then York Temple was exclusive. Is it still or has it gone the semi-private route now?

Fully private. They just offered a really great deal this year. You can see it on their website.

haha I was -1 through seven and then lost like 8 balls on the back nine to shoot over 90. Was super embarrassing and I'm certain it wasn't fun to play with me that day, but it was funny to receive that letter in the mail.

Do the players on tour need to keep track of the score(s) of the other player(s) in their group?

They are a marker for 1 person in their group. So weekends they switch cards. In a 3 ball player A keeps player B's score, player B keeps player C's score and C keeps player A's score.

Was crazy windy today. Had a gust blow my ball 40 feet off the green and down a little on a fairly flat green that were probably stimping only 8-8.5. Tried to hit a fade to hold the wind with driver and it ended up drawing 50 yards. Also had to hit a 3 hybrid on a 161 yard par 3.
