Now that I have a 5 wood in the bag it has created a massive gap. Here is what I have.

Driver
3 wood
5 wood (230-240y)
4 iron (200y)
5 iron
6 iron
7 iron
8 iron
9 iron
PW
50*
54*
58*
Putter

Thoughts???

A couple I was thinking of:

3 hybrid turned to 20* and pull 4 iron
3 iron and pull 4 iron

Wow - I just decided to take my 7W out of the bag (4i instead) after I bought my MP60s and your current setup is exactly what I am playing this Sunday when our Summer season starts!

Cleveland D,3,5

Mizuno MP60 4-9i

Mizuno T7 46*

Mizuno S5 50*,54*,58*

Ram Zebra putter.

You can hit a 5w 240 but 4i only goes 200?

I'd get a 22-23* hybrid instead of a 4i. You should hit that 210-215.

I can drill 3-4 footers in practice pretty well. I try to make 15 in a row and don't often succeed with that but frequently get 14/15. It's when I'm in an actual round that things fall apart.

Yeah unfortunately I am a very high spin player when it comes to irons. Any hint of wind and my distance with them drops dramatically. 4h might be a good idea. In the mean time I will just adjust my 3h.

I would go 3 or 4 hybrid adjusted so you hit it 215 and a 5 hybrid you hit 195. I am a hybrid junkie though

Do you guys know of courses having like a membership for the range? I'm a super super casual golfer and want to play a bit more but hate paying 10 bucks for a bucket of balls. Is this a thing?

some places have discounts for volume buying. I do my practicing at the TaylorMade facilty in Las Vegas....I pay $200 and get a little magnet/key thing that allows me to get buckets of balls out of the machines any time I want, without having to go to the front desk....it's like a 40% discount.

i've seen season pass on driving range alot in smaller cities or big towns

in big cities, not sure it's completely feasible unless you live on the edges of the metro area i.e. have access to "country" driving ranges.

in big cities where it exists, they might have restrictions on time of day or on number of balls hit, but it should be reasonable... i played with a plus 4 golf obsessed player. he got in dispute with place that gave him free range balls because they wanted to limit him to 15 buckets a day. i kid you not.......

i think realistically in a big city a bucket or two a day will be the limit, and you could buy 2 passes if you want. and that it'll work out $3/bucket or something like that.

country clubs often have free range balls, but then you are paying $400/month or something like that.

gaps are funny and expose alot about the golf swing... i can hit my 8 iron high and really far (165 in damp, sea level conditions, 185 in crazy prairie golf) but up till very recently, my driving distance wasn't that impressive at all. suggests hit down on ball too much

fyi, i've moved back to long irons. have a ap2 4 iron with project x 6.5 shaft which i can really hammer. probably hit my best fairway shot ever with it last time i played.

i'm rethinking this....... the point i think isn't so much how far i can or can't hit an 8 iron. BUT that i can swing harder and harder to hit it further. and i haven't found that to be the case with the driver. seems like swing falls apart when i swing too hard and/or i don't really know my contact point with the driver. i will say that playing very stiff shaft helps with all of this. seems like generally the harder you swing the better the shot. try that with an R shaft and the ball can literally go anywhere.

Yeah gaps get odd. That is how you end up with 4 new clubs when you only were intending on getting 1 new hybrid, or start bending irons to make it work.

i don't know if you play where there are "seasons of golf" and varying conditions but then you can just multiply all this. i finally decided to just optimize summer golf and not worry about the rest.

Lots of places have "range memberships" here in dfw area. Usually $40-60 a month for unlimited balls. Some of them it even includes cart fee golf in afternoons. Can be a really awesome deal if they have decent grass and balls.

I am in NE Ohio. Conditions range from mud pit to parking lot and I play anytime the course is open which means I play in temps ranging from 33 degrees to 90+. Wind ranging from 5 mph to 25+

I can't really afford having different club set ups and still play all the golf I do. Mine is more or less set up for 70 degrees, average wind and average firmness.

The Founders Club, $85. Apparently you can ground your club and drive in most of the bunkers. Fun layout and typically in good shape.

True Blue and Caladonia which are on the same property. Hank Haney's program is at True Blue. Caladonia is mint. Those are in the $100 range.

World Tour. Replica holes, Sawgrass, Amen Corner, St. Andrews 1 and 18. $60 and he says this is one of his favorites to play if you're simply looking to have fun.

I played The Grand Dunes Resort Club, The Founders Club, TPC Myrtle Beach, and World Tour this weekend.

I would rank them TPC MB>>Grand Dunes>>>>>World Tour>>>Founders Club.

TPC MB was just an all around great course where everything was in good shape including plush rough. The greens rolled nice and the layout was fair and fun.

Grand Dunes was also a solid course, but I wouldn't mind playing it when the wind was down a little. On the 10th hole I flushed a 7 iron into an elevated green from 130 and was short and then on the 14th hole I hit a 7 iron downhill long from 205. I also pulled 5 iron from 155 and was 5 yards short of the front despite hitting it ok (probably went 130 when I would normally hit 5 iron 180-190).

World Tour was a pretty decent layout, but wasn't in great shape. Their rough was all dead and there were tons of unkempt areas off the fairway and the greens weren't in great condition. The holes are also very loose on their interpretation of replica. That said, the holes aren't really boring at all which is nice.

Founders Club was just another course. Nothing special at all, but there were tons of waste bunker areas on basically every hole which was a little different from most courses I play.

What's that run all-in? about 8kUSD + net/mat? projector?

what is your real golf handicap and how does that compare?

Last I had a real cap I was an 11 at best on a very flat, relatively easy, muni course. We usually tell people you will run 10 shots +- better on the sim.

Assuming you have an indoor space with 9-10' ceilings & a decent gaming PC, you would need...

GC2 - $5400 refurb, ~$4200 used
Projector - ~$800-1000 (you'll want a short throw, Optima & BenQ seem to be the go-to's, I have a BenQ 1085ST)
Mat - $600 (Fiberbuilt, TruStrike or Divot Action) (don't waste your time and all this money and then get a crap mat, it effects every shot on your new multi thousand dollar toy) These are the 3 that are kind on your wrists
Screen & Framing - ~$400
JNPG - $35 on Steam
JNPG 1 yr. SimPass - $250 (annual reoccurring cost)

...so yeah, $7500-8000. There are definitely some things you can do to reduce...or increase...the cost.

For example, you can build a frame for the mat and just get a hitting 'insert' (typically 4'x1') and some turf for the stance portion for probably $200.

And you don't even need a screen/projector. We had a guy that took a net outside and used a monitor/laptop for the game for a year until he bought a house...

Then of course you can always increase by decking out the space with curtains, turf, putting area, stuff like that.

Im my case, I am outdoors in a 10x10x26' cage covered with a waterproof canvas tarp. Ran me around $1k I think. Damn tarp was expensive...

...and then if your really need to watch the budget, you can go with a SkyTrak over the GC2. It runs $2k and will cost an additional $100 per year gouging from SkyGolf, but it is a very acceptable unit. Plenty of them on tour including the tour winner on the NET side this year. But it can drive some people crazy also with the 'quirks'.

We have a blizzard coming tomorrow morning. 4-8" expected. We got 10" of snow on Monday and it has all melted already just in time for more. I had several rounds in by this time last year.
