Jim Furyk had a really good chipping video on YouTube, essentially uses the "chip like you putt" method. Very simple and repeatable especially for short chips from good lies. Haven't been able to find the video though, maybe it got taken down.

Use the bounce, the bounce is your friend.

So about bounce..

On my 60 for instance, I have 8 degrees of bounce, what would having 6 or 10 do?

Less bounce is better for sweepers, tight lies, more bounce is better for steep swings and bunkers. When I say use the bounce I mean more use a sweeping swing and glide the wedge instead of a deep dig divot on 20 yards shots. I rarely take a divot on sub 40-50 yard shots.

Saw Feherty Off Tour in Richmond tonight. Man that was one of the best shows I've seen. Highly entertaining!

Depends on the shot. Having 6 will allow the club to dig deeper into the turf before coming back up (bouncing). Having 10 will cause the club to bounce off the ground sooner with a shallower divot.

If you hit your 60 fat a lot, then more bounce will help you hit better shots when you miss.

More bounce will also help you hit better flop shots off of tighter lies as it allows you to hit down more and let the bounce help you from hitting it fat.

Some places will let you take out a few different bounces to try them out to see what works for you. That's how I ended up with a 56 that I love, and a 60 degree Cleveland that I've used twice and will never use again.

Yeah there is no good way to really test wedges besides go out on the course.

So this is kind of confusing since it sounds like the opposite of what nt said above, unless more bounce somehow means lower number? less bounce = higher number?

Demo day would be your best bet.

Also every store usually has a 30 day return policy (90 days here in FL) where if you don't like it you can return and get a different one. Kinda long way about getting it done but it's possible that way.

Next time I replace my wedges I am going to keep the bounce I have in my 50* and 58* and then get a lower bounce in my 54* for when I play courses with hardpan.

it may sound silly but i have two versions of my 50* and 54*, each with a high and low bounce, to account for playing year 'round in oregon where it's dry/firm in summer and sloppy/chunky in winter. i bought all of them pre-owned in great shape so the total price is modestly more than buying two brand new wedges of the same type.

I think that's a great idea. I know there is nothing more comical/sad than watching me using a high bounce wedge at Bandon.

one question might be why you aren't using your putter or hybrid as a putter from the same lies?

I learned that really fast. I will also take the 80y 8 iron shot into greens as well.

So apparently 8 somes are now a thing on the last 3 holes. Some stupid ****ing old ****s (apologies to old guys who don't hold up a person for an hour on the last 3 holes)thought it would be cool to play 8 on the last 3 holes going to everyone's ball one at a ****ing time with no regard for me just sitting and ****ing waiting and since 16 was a par 5 and 17 a driveable 4 there was no way to catch them on the tee box to even ask to play through. Then I wait for 10 ****ing minutes on 18 tee as they look for balls in the trees and 5 guys standing at the 100 marker. I resisted th urge to fly one over there head which I should have though. I finish and walk by saying so 8somes are a thing now and the **** goes "singles have no standing" I just laughed and walked away. I would have removed his valve stems if I knew for sure which car was his.

That whole singles have no standing is complete bull****. I have never seen that posted anywhere. I actually go out of the way to have people play through my group if we are playing slow. After I tee off I will drive back to the previous green and ask if they want to play through.

Another random tidbit I found out today. There is an 8th grade girl at our club that plays on the high school team. She won the regionals with a -6 66. When she plays our course she plays the blue tees at 6300ish yards.

I'm definitely in favor of letting faster groups through when there is somewhere for them to go. Don't care if it's a single or a twosome.

But it's fairly annoying when the course lets out a twosome behind you during prime time on Saturday morning when it's packed, your group has five or six foursomes back to back and you're waiting ... and the twosome still expects to go through.

Yeah the singles have no standing changed in like 2004 or so. It used to define a group as 2 or more but they changed it to a single still counts as a group

Yeah I hate courses that do this, like it is awful for everyone. I have almost been sent out as a single a few times at 1 on Saturday and I was like how about you pair me up. Nothing worse than waiting on every shot with nowhere or you to go.

When I golf with my cousin who is awful I am quick to waive people to play through, even if they are 3 or 4 and we are 2.

Yeah she must crush high school events playing at 5500 yards. Girls are interesting in how good they can get at 12 since they mature way faster.

Funniest thing was I played with this girl once, I was on the tips so then she goes and tees up on the middle box and stripes one like 240-250. I move up to the box her and her brother were playing since my ego was fragile and didn't want her to beat me.
