Ffs. Had three days in Paris and decent weather. Took a look at the golf courses and decided to pull the trigger to play the 2018 Ryder Cup course. But obv it was full because of some senior event. Now already sure I´m gonna be tilted watching the Ryder Cup. Then some botched emails with bad french to other clubs and ended up tilted and no golf.

At least not freezing here yet and can get a couple of rounds in before the white walkers come.

Decided to sign up and play the GC Am Tour this year. I was trying to decide between that or the GolfWeek one. I know multiple people who play the GolfWeek one but their tournaments in my area are super weak. I would be in the A flight and you are lucky if you get a foursome for it.

Even though the GC Am tour is more expensive I thought it would be worth it. Not sure if I'm gonna play enough to try and qualify for their national event or not, but it should be fun. One of their events is on the easier of my two courses. Some home cooking should be good on that course and will probably be my best chance to win.

Nice good luck. Tournament season is over here. That is the 1 good thing about up here is there are endless events cheaper than the golf am tour.(I am a cheap bastard) Basically there is an event every weekend from May to September between city, city 1 off events and county ams. Then the 7 days there isn't one some guys just started there own little tournament series to fill in the gaps.

Interesting read on college golf:

http://www.golfwrx.com/468738/colleg...-iii-just-yet/

Something I never shared before but I played exactly one semester of college golf back in the early 90's. I don't even know if it was D2 or D3 (thinking D3???) back then. Our fall schedule consisted of exactly one tournament. I shot 88-84-87. Scores were a lot higher back then I never went out for golf again in the spring as I had to get a job to help pay for school.

In the way way back machine I was actually all-state golf despite being the #5 player on my team. Back then you had to make the top 20 in scoring at any point during the year. At the first calculation I had a 75 and 79 posted good for 20th. I never even came close to making that list again.

Anyone have any good videos to help me learn how to chip? I'm talking mostly about shots 1-10 yards off the green. I find that I have no control over how high the ball comes off the club. Sometimes it seems to shoot low and hard, other times it pops up and lands soft. I feel like I am doing the same thing and the wedge just has a mind of its own lol. Obviously hard to get it close when you don't know how it is going to come out.
Also my ball seems to have no spin on these shots, so it does not check up at all. Makes downhill chips or chips with a small amount of green to work with very difficult. I usually use my 56 deg sand wedge for chipping. I have a 60 deg lob wedge, but that club terrifies me. Sometimes use my 52 deg gap wedge.

My handicap is down to about 10, and it has become clear that I won't be able to get any lower unless I really increase my up and down percentage.

I've started using my nine iron from the fringe, and up to around 20 yards from the green if there's a predictable release to the green.Has improved my up and percentage dramatically and also removed the thinned/duffed chips that would often derail an otherwise decent round. It's such a good feeling to be able to look at shots around the green and not be stressed by getting perfect contact particularly off tight lies and be able to focus on reading the green and trying to hole it.

A face on video would give us something to comment on. Otherwise we have no clue what you are doing.

I recently started an online golf instruction website and tuq said it was okay if I shared it in this thread.

My primary service is golf swing video analysis and in my early efforts to attract students I'm offering a free analysis to new email subscribers.

I am also very open to feedback on the site design and/or layout. I've done the whole thing myself with wordpress so can make most changes fairly quickly.

I've tried a few different iterations of the "product" but this version is getting the best response so far. Thanks for checking it out.

Thanks for checking out the site. There is a good bit of detail about my background on the "instructor" page.

I don't currently have an affiliation with a golf facility and offer formal in-person lessons but would venture that my online golf instruction skills are quite good and would love to give you a free analysis to help show that.

Just got a nice review video back and just wanted to chime in and say I thought it was great and more in-depth than I was anticipating for a free review.

I'm definitely going to work on what was pointed out in the review and film/submit again, good stuff!

Basically yes. More detailed instructions are provided after one signs up for the email list that will popup after about 30 seconds on the site.

I could be wrong, but I think chipping is one of those things where you just have to practice, practice, practice. Somebody could certainly get you started, but having that touch is about the creativity of the person doing it.

Exactly.

And, like I said Jk3a, I think the website looks great. I wish you well. The guy's been a long time contributor here, and this is a perfect place for the others in the community here to give him some feedback.

Mechanics are super important.

Thanks for the replies and offers to analyze my chipping. After thinking about it, I realized that my chipping technique was some bizarre mishmash of several different things I have seen/heard without any consistent plan. I need to start over with a real plan. Therefore I don't think watching my old technique would have been useful.

I decided to go with phil mickelson's "hinge and hold" for pitch type shots where I need to stop the ball or get backspin. I watched that video about 2 years ago and was chipping well for a while, then kind of got away from it and tried different things.

I also watched a Dave Pelz video where he describes how he essentially putts with an 8 iron for chips where there is green to work with.

https://youtu.be/DF5G24FFAP0

Went to the practice green yesterday evening after watching the videos and chipped about 120 or more balls. Seems like I can "hinge and hold" pretty well with the sand wedge, but doing it with a 60 deg is a bit erratic. Even was getting the ball to check up a modest amount pretty consistently.

The putting with 8 iron technique seemed to do OK after I practiced a bit. definitely is consistent, no real bad shots.

Going to stick with these two techniques and practice a lot and see what happens.

Headed to Myrtle beach for the first time ever. With a group of 16 guys playing at Legends. Any thoughts?

went to legends with the guys 3 years ago, awesome trip. best advice is to eat at the chick fil a right at the end of the road every day, 3 times a day. Golf was pretty good too! Super cheap beers at their pub during happy hour. They had a 4th plantation course off their property we played the last day as part of our package and it was one of the nicer courses I've ever played, 45 min drive though.
