Its hard to say really how far you hit unless you're using something like a trackman or lasering back to where you hit from. Like where are you guessing from? The sprinkler head by your ball and how long the scorecard says the hole is? Is that as the crow flies? Maybe the tees were up a box and you didn't notice. How far did you fly it and how much was roll? Just too many factors.

Game golf uses gps tags and measures from one tag to another so if you cut a dogleg it gives you a straight line distance ect. While not quite as good as a laser it is probably +/- 2 or 3 yards. Carry is better on trackman but in Ohio in March and April the courses are so wet that my ball is withing a yard of its pitch mark so I can use that to get a decent idea.

Been on trackman a bunch and all the Garmin GPS watches have a "measure your shot" feature where it knows where you tee'd off and when your next shot was taken. Just doesn't know carry/roll.

I don't really trust trackman. It doesn't seem like I ever hit it as far as the trackman suggests I do. Specifically, I think trackman credits me with far too much roll.

It has become way too fashionable to proclaim that a non-Masters major is someone's favorite major

Last edited by Biesterfield; 07-13-2017 at 12:39 PM. Reason: btw the US Open is my favorite major

Being short off the tee means I can't afford to miss fairways, and it's frustrating that I can never get there in 2 on par 5's.

Is it possible to gain 50 yards with my driver or should I just focus on being accurate.

And to bring you back to reality, if you're a 14 handicap, you are not very good around the green. Have seen several golfers that hit it that distance off the tee that were scratch handicaps. Granted that's an extreme, but it should put it in some perspective. And also give you hope and encouragement that you should be able to get into single digits just by improving your short game.

A little late on this thread, but bolded. My "good drive" average has never been more than 225-235, and I've been as low as a 5 (10.6 now). One thing that has really changed my game recently are better hybrids. **** pride, I have a 30 degree Ping G hybrid I use as a 6 iron, and use a hybrid for every shot 150 -190, and feel just as confident with those as my 7 and 8 irons. With that confidence I don't mind playing longer courses/from the blues.

Seriously though, work on your short game. Only reason I haven't been above an 11.5 handicap in 25 years is my short game. Driver goes to ****, irons go to ****, whatever; I've always had my 110-yards and in game to save me.

I was just thinking the same thing today after watching the commercials of the people saying "this is for the U.S Open".

Edit: My favorite major is the Evian, lol.

This.

I used to think I hit it farther than I do until I started using the laser. Now I know. It's funny how everyone I play with will say something like "oh I hit that last one 290 easily" and I'm thinking to myself I am usually even with where you were and I know it was 265 give or take 5 but "ok Rory".

Are you talking about using it indoors that has an algorithm based upon first 10 feet or however far it is?

i played the other day with a distance sand-bagger.... he drove a green on the fly that is over 300 yards - and this is humid air at sea level.... he tells me he watched an LPGA tournament live last year and many of the women are as long as him... huh??

was pretty remarkable the green he drove on the fly.. and of course the group ahead was still putting.

all this "how far do i hit my drive" is sooo dependent on where you live......... i've lived at reasonably high altitude with very dry air and hard ground. and i've lived at sea level with super wet conditions all but the heart of summer....... and the difference is massive.

a two-time major winner played at my local elite country club...... he could not believe how much shorter his shots went.

Anyone played Edgewood in Tahoe? Going to south tahoe for a bachelor party and supposed to all be ponying up $250 to play edgewood. Not all that excited as I know there's probably better courses for better value in Truckee but its a 80 minute drive for a bunch of drunk degens vs 5 minutes down the road for edgewood.

One of the guys I play with a lot is like 40 yards longer than me. Very fun to watch. He was testing the epic on a sim and the sound it made was insane. He was going all long drive swing but I think he had one that carried like 350

mostly yes as I only have 2 swings on it outdoors, the one below and the swing before that which had similar numbers to one another and both showed it going longer than the times I've hit it indoors. However, the one below I did bomb, but we also had a tailwind and the landing area was below the tee as well.

Either way, I am pretty sure trackman's are built to tell people they hit it further than they do because every time I get on one it shows me at 290+ with a bunch over 300 and I know I don't hit it that far consistently.

Yeah outdoors it uses the ball data as far as it can track and is very accurate from my understanding. Indoors is an algorithm that is pretty accurate but if you are using one at a place trying to sell you the club then it is safe to be skeptical. I always bring my current driver with me and hit it on the machine so I can compare. I imagine you can tweak some stuff like wind and elevation in the algorithm settings to make it come out farther. Set that **** at 5000' elevation and you will be bombing it.

Playing in or first real MGA individual event of the season tomorrow morning. I am paired with our club champion. It will be a good comparison to see how far I have to go to be that good. I'm really interested to see where he picks shots up over me (read: probably everywhere), but I am pretty sure he is not that long off of the tee.

Nice good luck.

Not this weekend but next I have a 36 hole qualifier to city finals at my normal course. The city just has them at 4 courses, 2 this weekend 2 next and top 10-15 or so depending on entries get free entry to city championship in August. Will take about 148-150 normally.

You're timing is good. I decided to put a sim in my garage for the winter. Haven't done much research yet but I'm sure I will have questions.

awesome, dooo it, you wont regret. If you are able, skip the bs and just get a GC2 for the launch monitor. Rock solid unit.

Played behind some special little ****ing snowflakes today who thought a 2 hour and 55 minute 9 was normal and they shouldn't have to feel pushed. The starter laughed at them mostly when they came to him before teeing off 10 saying they were feeling a bit rushed and would appreciate it if no one was allowed to tee off hole 10 for the next 20 minutes so they wouldn't feel pushed. After hearing that made me feel better about waiting for the to be 170 out on 2 holes and teeing up a 9 iron and hitting 20 yards short of them. Went up to them on 10 and said there is a nice driving range down the street they should try going there if they want to play golf then drove passed them and skipped the hole.

Are those like $6K? I was thinking SkyTrak. If I could build a nice simulator area inside my house I'd consider getting a lot fancier, but it will have to go in my garage.

Skytrak will work perfectly fine and retains it's value pretty nice if you ever decide to upgrade
