I think if playing a muni it is reasonable to assume 4-4.5 hours for a round. Anything under 4 and you are doing really well.

I don't get aggravated by slow play if it is just seniors or beginners or maybe lady golfers who can't hit very far. It comes with the territory if you are not playing a private course. I see people ruin their whole day getting aggravated about having to wait on a group of old dudes.. I'll (hopefully) be one of those old dudes one day, so I try to be understanding about it.

In the grand scheme of things if a round takes 5 hours instead of 4 it's not really the end of the world. It's the luck of the draw when playing a muni.

On weekends at an affordable muni I just expect 5 hour rounds and that keeps me from going crazy.

The worst is old people in carts who care more about hanging out. Drives me bat **** crazy on weekdays.

The typical offenders go like this. All tee off and everyone drives to the short hitters ball who is now 220 out after hitting a 140 yard drive. They wait till the green clears and hit the ball 100 yards. Then they all drive to the next ball and he hits sometimes decent. After that they do it again, finally the longest hitter is up but wait, they didn't bother finding his ball while they are waiting and now ****ing waste 3 minutes looking for it then he finally ****ing hits and then they all drive to the short hitters 2nd shot who still isn't ****ing out of my range. Rinse repeat and I usually just jump the hole when playing alone or just ***** to my group if I am playing with others.

Don't even get me started on old ****s and cart path only.

agree 100%......... my #1 pet peeve is the cart golfers dealing with one ball at a time. i think you suggest all 4 focus on 1 ball. not sure i've seen that, but 2 players on cart dealing with 1 ball at a time is very frustrating.

another similar pet peeve is the driving 125 yards backwards with the cart right when you are ready to hit your drive. a bit more rare but certainly the 75 yard backwards move is super common.

i'm a bit torn about walk vs. cart for old people... cart = very very bad habits, but walk can be very very slow, although i don't mind it that much - within reason.

Half the problem is the golf course 2 minutes away from my house is one of the most played courses in Ohio and is friendly to high handicaps and easy to walk. Took 4 hours to play today and the weather wasn't even that great.

I'm sure each shop is dependent but I don't know if I just need to bite the bullet and go all new.
If you are buying brand new, they should almost always sell you whatever you want. The last set I bought they had 3-GW. I only wanted 4-P. He took the total cost of the set divided by the number of clubs and that was the price he charged me per club.

In addition to the weekly simulator tournament that mirrors the pga tour, we also play a monthly team event. This month is 4-man scramble teams, 2 rounds @ PGA National playing ~6700.

We played round 1 last night. Was a ton of fun...

Here is the leader board that shows the different teams and handicaps. We were the first to get a round in so far...

Has anyone used the 18birdies app? I just downloaded it and figured I would try it out next time. Don't really need it for the GPS, just wanted to use it to share rounds with friends vis the Facebook-like feed to it.

FSGA added a one day fourball event at Innisbrook Copperhead on August 3rd so I signed my team up. Can't beat playing that course for $70. Course is infinitely more difficult in the Summer compared to when the Valspar is played because you get no rollout with wet fairways in the Summer.

What I am wondering is how important it is to have these clubs fitted. I just went into the store and bought them. Does it cost more? Do I have to go to some special place to do this or should Dick's just do it for me?

Thanks for any help.
i think mostly you just need to get shaft stiffness correct....... regular is often ok unless you have high swing speed or fast tempo. related but not the same.

complete seasonal opposite of pacific northwest........ is it so bad in florida that the ground collapses under your ball, like a fairway bunker?

Not quite that bad. I feel for the gounds crew in the summer here. After every single downpour they have to go out and reconstruct the bunkers from them being washed out the night before.

Yeah the FSGA has some really good tournaments at private courses (and obv some resort/public) for cheap. They had a two day event at Sawgrass, 18 on the Players, 18 on Dye's valley and 2 nights hotel for $550 or so. Can't beat that.

About 15 years ago I played a FSGA qualifier at Lake Nona. It was amazing.

I am sure I have said it before but will say it again. The aeroburner 3 wood goes stupid far. There is a 90 degree dogleg where the fairway ends at about 240 and slightly up hill and I struggle to keep it in the fairway. The shaft is ****ing long so you need to be swinging well to use it off the deck but so easy to hit off the tee.

Going to be able to knock off a few more of the Golf Digest Greatest 100 Public courses in the near future. My current total sits at a lowly 9, although 5 of those are in the top 10. Upcoming:

Dormie Club (#49, West End, NC)
Pine Needles (#68) or Mid Pines (#94) (Southern Pines, NC)
Troy Burne (#69, Hudson, WI)

Playing Sleepy Hollow tomorrow which used to be on top 100 public back in the day. Old school course that is tough for how short it is, 6750 ish from the back. As long as you are below the hole no too bad, above you have a solid chance to putt off the green or 4 putt.

Dormie Club is overrated. Not bad, just overrated.
Pine Needles and Mid Pines are great. With your distance you might find Mid Pines really short, but your short game and putter have to be on point to score.

I've played 6 of the 100, only 1 higher than Dormie though. Pretty sad considering how many are located within a reasonable drive, but I'm also cheap.

Never got around to playing Troy Burne when I was spending a lot of time in that area, Minneapolis has a lot of good golf courses.

this made me go look at the courses i've played on the top 100 public...and underscores the number of great public courses in oregon (i've played all of these multiple times).

2. pacific dunes
7. bandon dunes
10. old mac
14. bandon trails
36. pronghorn nicklaus
51. crosswater
63. tetherow
80. pumpkin ridge ghost creek

i've also played aspen lakes, black butte glaze meadow and big meadow, and reserve north and south courses which have all shown up on the list of top public courses in oregon.

Dormie Club is $55 cheaper weekends for me compared to Pine Needles/Mid-Pines so I figured I would play that one.

As for Minnesota, I lived there for 28 years of my life and I agree. One of my favorite cheaper courses was Baker National. Basically no houses on the course and a great track.

I agree on Oregon. Next time I am there playing Bandon I'm gonna take a night or two in and play some of the other courses.

You can easily play Ghost Creek if you travel thru Portland. If you're in a car I'd suggest central Oregon and play Crosswater, Pronghorn and Tetherow all around Bend. The hidden jewel is Tokatee about an hour east of Eugene (which can be on the way to or from Bend). Amazing value, beautiful setting, and always in great shape. We go every year and play 108 holes in 4 days.

Anyone ever play Arcadia Bluffs? I have an opportunity next month but it will require a 2 1/2 hour drive each way. Is it worth it?
