Speaking of pace, I played today with 2 guys, 1140 tee time. There was a 10 am scramble shotgun start that we were not informed of. The 4 man team that started on 14 passed 1 right before our tee time, and finished on 13 at 3pm. A 5 HOUR SCRAMBLE. They were an entire hole behind the pace after 5 holes, but the starter wouldn't let us go off in the gap.

5 hours for a 4man scramble seems fast honestly.

Yeah, that's not slow at all. Wait until you see a corporate scramble with 2 groups starting on every tee.

I've played in and behind scrambles that took as long as 6 1/2 hours. Five is standard.

Playing behind them is awful though

5 hr scramble seems on the slower side for what Im used to. Usually done in 4.5 hrs.

This Saturday Ill be playing an 8 hr bring your best scramble lol. 40 teams playing. 8somes with 2 groups on every hole and 2 holes will have 4 groups on the tee box waiting for 8 guys to hit. It is brutally slow.

wtf is a "bring your best scramble" and why is it done in 8somes? How is the course setup? Any driveable par 4s? All par 5s reachable? I assume the winning score will be somewhere between -20 and -24 depending on this answer?

Nope, its as real as it gets. Course is only like 6800 yards but deceivingly long. A few long par 4s and a few 320 yard par 4s. 600 yd par 5, 255 yard par 3 and pins are tough. 3 of 4 par 5s are reachable but takes 2 very good shots for them all. Pins always in tough spots. Seems like every other year it goes to 40 teams. Last time there was only like 22 and a marker following around every group. 100% cant cheat. 1 pro allowed per group. I think -17 won last year. We were -15 but were like -14 thru 15 so a bad finish.

Edit: I personally think there are 2 reasons for the 40 teams. 1 is the payouts are bigger and 2 is that they do not need 22 volunteers to be markers as you play with another group

The 8some is two teams? I thought it was 8 players per team which made me assume every reachable par 5 required eagle and every par 4 required birdie with the chance of a couple eagles.

Ah yeah should have clarified. Still 4 man teams. Just found out today though that they are still going to have markers with each group. Guess they still dont trust some groups lol

Around these parts every scramble requires you to play with another group for scoring purposes. 8somes is the norm and a lot of times 2 8somes per hole. 6 hours is pretty standard.

In the case of my golf round, it was only a group of a dozen or so teams shotgun start. 5 hour round for a standard 4some is inexcusable IMO, and moreso in that situation.

Dropping in with a dumb question. I had a GHIN in like 2010 and no longer do. I forget how I got it, think I filled out a piece of paper at WESTCHESTER and voila, was part of that men's club.

In order to get a GHIN in Los Angeles, do I need to register with an SCGA men's club? If so, do I even care which one I join or should I just find the cheapest one and profit? Does my "home course" even matter? Any recommendations?

Any utility/driving iron users here? I love my driver, but I don't really like using my wood/hybrid off the tee very much. I'd like to have something in between driver and set irons off the tee

Ditch 3i 4i and maybe even5w and replace with 2h-4h you won't regret it

I don't even have a 5i anymore...although, I'm going back and forth on whether I need one....there's about a 20 yard gap between my 6i and 5h.

Nice way of saying "no", guys. My bag is full and I play 1W, 3W (17*), 4Hy (21*), 4i at the top. But I have little confidence in the 4i after lengthening my irons and hardly use 3wood ever because the 5s I play are frequently guarded greens. I rarely need 4i either.

Dom, get a 6H LDO

If you have little confidence in a 4i you'll hate a 2i
