1). gotta know if the pin if front/middle/back and what sort of contour the green has (flat, tiers, etc).

2). what's your typical miss off the tee? how solid is your iron and short game? what temps to you typically play in?

1). Pin in the middle, lie was in the fairway, and green slopes back to front.

2). My miss? I hit it 230-240 down the middle 70% of the time, my miss is usually a duff to be honest. Irons my miss is usually a high pull hook, and I play in the northeast.

1) I would typically just use a lob wedge. If the lie is a little tight I might go to my 54 deg wedge.

2) This is hard to answer. I would look at what the different manufacturers recommend. If you are using ProV's then you probably don't want the ProV1x. A lot of this depends on what you're handicap is and what you are willing to spend.

This is my least favorite chip shot and my only glaring weakness within 100 yards. I carry 50*, 55* and 60* and nearly always chip with 50* playing some form of a bump and run. These shots are tough because my ball already comes in low but with the uphill shot its landing angle is even more shallow so it typically runs past pin. On something short side like this I try bouncing once into the face of the hill and popping the ball up so it trickles out. Should be using 55* on these shots but I have a terrible tendency of leaving it short of the green.

Not sure why I even carry a 60*, never use it and it scares the hell out of me anytime I touch it.

If you took like, 3 hours one day and just went to chip around a practice green with your 60, you'd conquer this problem almost forever.

1) 60*
2) Most websites for golf ball companies have a "fitter" type thing you can try out.

Would you take a full swing with a 60 degree wedge?

No, that travels at least 50 yards.

1). i'd likely use my 58* (highest lofted wedge) and use a stiff-wrist stroke similar to what i'd use for a really long putt. probably something from 4 o'clock to 8 o'clock if the lie allows.

On a shot like this you'll airmail the green by a mile.

I can open it up and take a full swing at this distance sometimes. But that's only in special cases the pin is right over a bunker, and even then I'll probably only try it if I'm in the rough and have kind of a fluffy lie.

I would go higher lofted wedge (either sand or lob) with a pretty big & shallow chipping stroke. Try to carry it halfway or a little further given the back to front slope. Definitely a shot you need to practice, hopefully you have a big practice green to try things out on.

Thanks for the responses. Not many videos online that show this situation

My club OCD is conflicting with the 14 club rule. I recently picked up a 49* Niblick to complete the set (37/42/49/56). I need to get the 42 re-gripped but have had the 37 and the 56 in the bag. They're super useful and I like them a great deal, but I find they don't 100% replace the equivalent short iron, there are some shots where I like the regular iron better. I'll probably replace the PW with the 49 and leave the 42 out of the bag but it's going to be annoying not to have them all in there together.

Yeah, but for the 14 club rule I'd be that guy, the guy with 20 clubs in his bag. Driver, 3w, 3h, 1i-SW, 4 niblicks, putter. Oh wait, that's only 19. Better go get a 4h.

Sorry but what's a niblick? Is that another name for a wedge? A brand?

Pretty sure I've only had 13 clubs in the bag for a long time. I should probably figure out what I need to do maximize my yardage coverage where it matters most.

It's a club that Cleveland used to make. Kind of a wedge, but much more upright, smaller head, wide sole.

Maybe add a brassie or a baffing spoon?

the group of guys i play with has a core group that collect and play hickory clubs pretty frequently. we go on extended golf trips 4 times a year (i.e. 6 rounds in three days type of trip) and the core group will always play their hickories for at least one round during the trip, usually during the afternoon re-routes that don't count towards the team game. there are several of these guys that should seriously consider playing nothing but hickories, or reconsider the stiffness of the shafts in the clubs they usually play.
hickory shafts really make you slow down and smooth out your swing because of their flex, often for the better.

typically the guys play noodles. wilson 50s, 'ladies' balls or something similarly soft.

one of the guys currently plays to a 7.5 and i've seen him break 80 numerous times playing with hickory clubs on a >6000 yard course even though he has a serious case of putting yips. probably has something to do with him looking like old tom morris and being in his late 60s with a buttery smooth swing:

and always walks the morning rounds while carrying.

should also mention he's headed to Scotland next week to play something like 23 rounds in 20 days....probably the 6th or 7th Scotland/Ireland trip he's made.
