I don't think I'd ever heard of either Idle Hour CC in Lexington or Triple Crown CC in Union, KY before this week, but they've been added to my personal list of 100 or more places I'd like to play that I'll never be able to get on. Sure, they're a few notches below Augusta, Pine Valley and, say, Crystal Downs, but they're on there.

So a while back I signed up to test an M2 6 iron and today it showed up for free in the mail. Looks more like a 5 iron but I will take it. Free and if I review it they enter me to win a free set.

How many of you switch putters often? I have been using a mallet style putter basically since high school. Considering getting a blade to see how it performs. I am kinda in a rut putting where I am burning a lot of edges and I think I just want to try something else.

Of course another way to go would be to practice. I never use a line on a golf ball to set my putts up and obv I need to start doing that. I think the reason I don't is because I don't want to slow the game up.

Has anyone else looked into AimPoint Express? My son's golf teacher actually teaches it and even teaches it to some pros.

I have a question about putting:

Do any of you putt short putts (3ft. and in) with an open stance? I find it easier to see the hole and not pull the putt if I have my left foot open...almost at a 30 degree angle to the hole. I'm practicing it and it just seems easier.

Anyone else do something similar?

for simple short putts, i too use an open stance. also, i putt one-handed. i find putting one-handed guarantees i will accelerate the head through the ball. i will often look at both the ball and the hole.

if the putt has break that needs to be accounted for, then i take my normal stance (left foot perpendicular to the target line), and make my normal stroke.

i begin the 'practice routine' with 15-20 short putts, then move to 5 footers of various difficulty.

I'd recommend practicing these with your normal stance but find a flat spot on the green and throw down a chalk-line.

Your way might take the "seriousness" out of the putt and relieve some pressure of yips or something that you're putting on yourself maybe? I don't know.

Putting is my nemesis. I am terrible at it. I've tried all types of putters with no luck. I am worst on the short ones. There is almost no such thing as a gimme when I'm putting.

I've tried left-hand-low but it feels terrible to me and I have zero distance control on longer putts. This year I am trying my usual standard grip on longer putts, and then left-hand-low on the short ones. Seems to be helping but it's too soon to say.

I may start experimenting with a Kuchar-style putter or Garcia's claw grip. At this point I'll try anything. I have zero confidence.

go to a practice green, toss down a half dozen balls surrounding the hole within three feet, and get a 1-2-3 beat in your head and putt the balls at a brisk pace.
beat 1: put your putter behind the ball
beat 2: draw the putter back
beat 3: make the stroke

don't try to align the line on your ball with the hole, don't get too concerned with the break of the green that close, don't even feel like you need to have your weight balanced (i like to put all my weight on my right foot. just instinctively hit the putt with enough pace towards the hole to go in. you don't have to think about that putt, just stroke it in with purpose.

you can make the same distance putt if you happen to run it past, no need to worry about delicately dropping it into the cup.

I'm just experimenting with it. It seems that when I have a short birdie putt, or an up and down or something, I do put a lot of pressure on myself. trying not to. Want to get into a routine - that's why I'm practicing putting a lot lately.

One thing that made me start putting better and feeling comfortable even under pressure is that I don't hit a putt "until I know it's going in"

Could I play through while you're waiting for that feeling?

lol....that was funny.

One other thing I think I've got to start doing is SLOW THE EFF DOWN. I rush. I get up to the ball and hit it. Or putt it. I'll look at the line of the putt, and just quickly putt it.

Or, I'll have an iron or a tee-shot, and I'll find my line, do a half-swing for practice, and then let 'er rip.

Thanks, will try that!

It's interesting you mention all the weight on one foot. I've often felt like my stroke is much better when I just step in with my right foot, leaving my left foot back, and hit it. Like on a tap-in for instance, where I'm trying to avoid stepping in another player's line. I've experimented with the same "tap-in" stance with longer putts and it feels better for some reason, with all my weight on the right foot. May try it on the course this weekend!

How much should I spend to get fit for a new driver? Is the $50 fitting (free with club purchase) at Golfsmith good or should I really be doing the $125 option?

Got fit for irons a few years ago and iirc all we ended up doing was lengthening the shafts. 15 hdcp.

Do you have a local golf pro near you? I rather go to one of those guys over a big box store. I dunno if you're in NY Metro but in Mineola I'd recommend Petes Golf Shop.

The Golfsmith fitter might actually be good but I imagine most of them aren't the best. If you have the money get fit.

quick review of the M2 6 iron TM sent me to test.

Also spent a decent amount of shots testing out the M2 6 iron TM sent me. Interesting club but I hate the sound of it. Sounds nothing like any iron I have hit. Was around the 180-185 carry range with it. Didn't launch nearly as high as I thought it would which is fine since I hit the ball high. Launched lower than my 6 hybrid and about the same as my 4 hybrid. The flight was interesting, you could tell it reached its apex much farther down range than my hybrids. Considering trying to get a M2 5 iron and use those to bridge the game between irons and my 3 hybrid. Shaft sucks though, too light and just didn't load right for me. Would change it to a TT dynamic gold either hard step the S300 or soft step it with x400 if I decide to get the 5 and game it.

I have the option right now to switch irons if I want to. Some extra cash came in and if I want to trade in the G30's I could get pretty much any set I want. Damn it this cash id burning a hole in my pocket. Good timing as I have a Titleist fitting next week too.

I should just do the smart thing and get a 46* and 50* Vokey wedges to replace my pitching and gap wedges and be done.

Decisions, decisions....

after much humming/etc decided not to purchase a new set of ping g30 or g irons. i've been hitting AP2's since they came out. on my second set and ready to purchase set #3 ( with lighter older-guy shafts ). if you've never tried them, they are the nuts.

and yeah, vokey wedges should be in your bag. try out the k 58 (http://www.vokey.com/wedgeworks/cust...alization.aspx), quite versatile.
