I can't believe the course actually believed this wouldn't create a problem.

What's the upside of having all Pro-Vs at a public course anyway? Did they plan to market it and drive up range traffic?

Either way, playing a clearly marked DR ball looks beyond dumb.

FWIW years ago a friend of mine was at the local tour event and saw a bunch of balls beyond the DR fence adjacent to a fairway. He saw the balls were Spalding Tour Edition (a pro caliber ball in the day) and began scooping up as many as he could fit in his pockets, socks, and under his shirt. I think he was able to get 60 or so. Good thing was they did not have the typical DR stripe, so he could play them without getting laughed at.

cool thanks, that is pretty much what I use if I want to make a yardage book, google earth and bing maps aerial to get more of a 3 d looking view.

I don't think they had a master plan, they just thought it would be cool and unique to have ProV's. The owner converted the land from a farm into a golf course. He sends out these weird funny emails and just basically has fun with it, doesn't seem to give a damn about anything. You can tell how goofy he is by his website: http://www.saddlebackgolf.com/

Playing my first round of 2016 tomorrow afternoon. Haven't played since having shoulder surgery 6 months ago so I'm looking forward to it.

i'll be severely disappointed if you don't trip report your bandon experience. don't forget about the opportunity to play the shorty's course at the practice facility if you can't manage a re-route.

Awesome, week ahead for you.

You going to take a caddie for Pacific?

Nope, going it alone. I'm too broke for a caddy. I actually just cancelled my reservation at Revere for Saturday. Family vacation was waaaay more expensive than I had planned. Gonna try and get another round in at Canyon Gate for Saturday since it's only $25 for me there.

One strange thing happened today...

I drive up to the first tee and see a coyote about 100 yards in front of me trotting away from the hater hazard with a fish in its mouth. Wasn't prepared for that so I didn't get a pic.

Well you know what they say, if you can't spot the fish within the first two holes, then guess what? You're not the coyote, you're the fish.

Tru.

I also liked the starter asking me my handicap and suggesting that I play the whites at 6043 yards. Greens were 6,628. Told him I was a 10 and he said "we recommend all double digits play the whites."

On the day I hit it in the greenside bunker on a par 4, hit one of the par 5's in 2 and was green high on another par 5, from the green tees. When I can hit 9 iron into a 420y par 4, LEAVE ME ALONE.

And distance means absolutely nothing when determining which tees you should play. All that matters is your handicap. Should a 20 handicap who has the ability to drive it 300 yards play from the tips on a 7200 yard course? I think not. Your handicap determines which tees you play. Period.

FWIW, I'd lean towards having a 10 play from 6043, but don't think it's totally out of line to play from 6628. Any longer than that would really be pushing the envelope though.

So what did you shoot from the green tees?

Front 9 was rough, got 5 swings in on the range before I started. Length of the course wasn't the problem, taking 4 shots around a green on the front 9 was. Put it together a little better on the back.

I like to choose the tees for the way the course designer laid out the course. What fun is it if I can blast it over every fairway bunker if I am playing tees too far forward?

Also, I'm not holding anyone up on the course. If I am by all means I will move forward if that helps.

Why do you make these posts?

Everything else considered - we know you're good enough at golf so that you have to understand that what you just posted is clearly horribly wrong. So why?

Asking a long hitter to play forward tees slows the game down, because he is waiting longer for the group ahead to get out of range.

it should have nothing to do with score/handicap, so long as the player can keep up pace of play.

So you'd shoot the same score from the whites as you did the greens? It's all about playing to your handicap.

At least bears best is consistently focused on pace of play, the starter gave the same schpiel to my bachelor party golf in 2010. And the course can be very punitive if I remember right so it makes sense.
