My first time visiting the golf forum. Never really knew about it. I am hacker but love to play. I bought the Sumo sq driver this winter and it is amazing to me how much better I hit it than any driver I have ever hit. Makes I very loud noise upon contact but I am guessing it is because the shape of it.

How common is a right-shoulder injury for a right-handed golfer? I've had an assortment of little nagging problems for a while now, to the point where if I move my arm in a circular motion about the shoulder, I feel discomfort at certain angles, and hear all kinds of grinding noises.

I'd actually gone to the doctor last year, and he gave a quick range of motion exam, said it was bursitis, and that was the end of it, but I know this shoulder has undergone lots of abuse from various sports/spills through the years (I'm 41 FWIW). It seems to get markedly worse the more golf I play, though.

offTopic,
It is fairly common. The best advice I can give you is to do some range of motion exercises on a regular basis.
It won't take but a couple of minutes.
Make 3 circular motions clock-wise, then counter-clockwise, in 6 different positions. Up (like your making circles on the ceiling), down (usually the easiest), front (circles on a wall in front of you), back (difficult), left (important for golf and where you're likely to feel pain with your right shoulder), and right.
64 circles total. 36 with each arm.
If you feel pain, make smaller circles, or bend your elbow so that there isn't as much pressure on your shoulder.

Working on your range of motion every day is the only thing I've found to minimize these types of problems.

is this a scam, or just a bad deal that they are marketing as a great deal? $23 doesn't seem like a lot, but if it's a cheap club that i want, i could pick one up from the used or clearance rack for $35-$50.
For less than positive opinions of Warrior Custom Golf, read this thread.

Thanks, I'll give this a shot...I wish I could accurately mspaint how close each of these comes to being a circle, particularly the "back" one, which I suspect would look a lot like

If you've ever seen the show "sports science" on the discovery channel, they say that weighted baseball bats are counter productive, and i can only assume that this would be the same. I don't remember exactly what the reason was, but it had a lot to do with the big muscles doing more work with the heavy bat and therefore less work with the light bat (While this may not be the exact reasoning, it was something to this effect). They actually proved that there is a fatigue thing on top of that, and that swinging a weighted bat slows down the swing of the regular bat.

Recommendations for drivers I should demo?
I'm looking to try them out, then go on ebay and buy a used one.

I really suck at golf, I have never had a real driver, and I dont want to invest alot of money. Mainly I just want something cheap and forgiving.

Mizuno MX560
r5
ft-i
sumo2

I think the ft-i would be the upper limit for how much i am willing to spend (about $120 used iirc). I just like the way it looks. I haven't hit it yet, but I have a feeling that I will be very confident. I think in general I like the square shape of new drivers.

i'm also a new, pretty bad golfer...my dad has a r5 dual type D that he never uses so i stole it from him and i really like it, i was hitting a Ping Si3 before which was alright but i seem to hit a little longer with the R5, it also feels more forgiving. it didn't really do anything with my slice but thats probably because its so huge that no club is gonna fix it.

That's interesting. I had not heard that.

For now though, I'm going to hold onto my opinion. I understand that there are parallels between baseball and golf, but I can see a weighted bat being more detrimental to a baseball swing than a weighted club would be to a golf swing. In the former, the extra weight would attempt to drag the bat down while you're trying to maintain a relatively parallel plane to the ground. In a golf swing, the extra weight acts as a rollercoaster on the way down, and also forces you to get your weight back and through.

I've just seen too many good golf instructors advocating weighted clubs to toss out the idea based on one show.

However, it's possible that they ARE bad. Changes in theories are to be expected over time.

They definitely help me get back on track, so I'll stick with them for now.

I have the 7.5 lb model from back in the days when I was doing long drive. Back then I was 6'0 240 benching 375. Now I moved to Fl and weigh like 205 soaking wet...I can barely lift the thing let alone swing it.

...those were to days, lol.

i swing a mizuno mx500, and it is not a forgiving club. it has a good size sweetspot, so it pretty much always goes far, but in no way would i say it would be easier to hit than a newer taylormade or nike or the callaways X drivers.

i'm looking at picking up some tickets for the upcoming PGA Championship at Hazeltine. i think i'm just going to get some practice round tickets as i'm not sure how much i'd enjoy watching the actual tournament in person but i might change my mind. there are basically two options, you can get tickets that are for grounds general admission or wanamaker tickets that are more expensive but apparently give you access to some pimped out tent. if i go with the cheaper general admission ones does this give me access to the entire course? can i just walk around from hole to hole or does it restrict me to a certain area of the course and are cameras allowed?

Cheaper tickets get you grounds access, shouldn't restrict the holes you can see.

Cameras are usually allowed on practice days, not during tournament.

Cavity back clubs are much more forgiving. There's nothing wrong with blades, it's just that the sweet spot is much smaller. Off center hits are going to be much worse than with cavity backs.

If you can consistently hit a spot the size of a dime, then blades are fine, but that's just not the case for 90% of amateurs.

Everyone will play practice rounds, most will play 2 at least.
