I joined their "lair" club at some point years ago, so it was probably hidden in the stipulation there somewhere. I am pretty sure that this still violates any credit card terms of service rules, but since he offered the rain cheque and I do plan on playing there again, I didn't want to throw that out and have him call my bluff.

If the difference is not hitting the ball thin, just don't tee it and stop giving a **** about everyone else. It's probably mental though.

Seriously, you said you hit great from fairway but not off a tee. Easy decision. The tee is your fairway, and you will always get a good lie.

Don't worry what other people do.

BTW, I hate using a tee for PW or 9 irons shots.

A lot of players dont use tees on Par 3s. I know if I was puring everything without a tee, and not with a tee, I sure as hell wouldnt use a tee lol

has anyone had any noticeably positive/negative changes in their game due to working out at the gym?

i am potentially interested in starting a 5x5 type program, and want to know what i can expect in terms of my swing changing? i mean it seems logical that if im getting stronger, my swing would change (speed? path? flexibility?), but is that type of program going to be detrimental? would working on core strength rather than big compound movements be more ideal? i did a quick google search and there seems to be a lot of polarizing opinions and having never really been much of a gym go-er i dont know which to take note of.

i am not a low handicap player (20ish), but i am steadily improving and the last thing i would want to do is stagger any progress in my game.

Many old-time pros never used tees on par-3's. They would kinda kick up a little tuft of turf and place their ball on that. Ken Venturi mentioned this numerous times during his broadcasting career.

from the golf thread on the other site a scratch golfer put up his before and after carry distances after a year and it was a ton. Driver carry was 241 before lifting and 283 carry after. All the clubs had a similar increased result.

Playing in a pro-am for the PGA Latin America Tour event tomorrow. It should be fun. The company I work for got a team through its sponsorship, but never invited anyone. I found out about it while I was covering the Monday qualifier and threw a team together at the last minute, which consists of me, a buddy of mine who is playing in the event and his caddy.

Will probably do a short writeup afterward.

I read an article the other day (I think on bodybuilding.com) and they leaned towards pure strength training to help with golf as opposed to lighter weight, more rep workouts. Their justification was that those workout fatigue the muscles/body so much that it will have a negative effect.

Totally anecdotal here, but I have been doing starting strength for about a year now and I am hitting some absolute bombs on the course.

Have a link? Would be curious to see if he lists exactly what type of lifting/strength training he was doing.

Thanks

Just got done with the pro-am. My game was shockingly crappy. I did make two birdies, but had a lot of holes where I picked up after terrible drives.

My buddy who is playing the event didn't play that well, but his caddy made four birdies, and hit the ball great all day. Which led me to remark about 30 times that the wrong guy will be carrying the bag tomorrow.

We actually had two pros playing with our group, one guy from Argentina and the other from Colombia. Both were super cool. The Argentina kid actually finished in the top five two years ago to qualify for the web.com tour, but lost his card there, then lost his card for the Latin America Tour last year. So he has no status this year, but did pretty well in the last tournament to get into this event.

In a nutshell, he went from being a step away from playing on the PGA tour to trying to make a living playing $5 Nassaus on his home course. And he needs a good finish this week to qualify for the next tournament, or he won't have anywhere to play.

The Colombian kid has full status, but has only played in one event this year. He wanted to play in Argentina, but couldn't afford the plane ticket.

What was eye-opening is that I have previously played in pro-ams for the web.com tour, and I can honestly say there isn't any difference between the guys I played with in those events and the guys I played with today. But there was a noticeable difference between my buddy and the two pros, though.

For me, it showed me how thin the margin is between top professionals and guys who can't afford plane tickets, and the wide gap between good amateurs and professionals. My buddy is a legit golfer. He hits the ball a ton and doesn't do anything wrong. But the gap between him and the two guys we played with was pretty obvious.

I rarely use a tee on par 3's. The only time I actually use a tee is when the hole is 180+ yards and I need 5/4/3 iron. Sometimes I dont use a tee on those holes as well.

Just booked St Andrews 3 day golfing trip for the week after the Open, couldn't get a tee off for Old Course but playing Jubilee, New Course, Castle Course in consecutive days in that order from 30th July. We've booked caddies for the round on the New Course which I'm very excited about.

Format is highest cumulative Stableford score over the 3 days wins. Theres 4 of us playing, we play this same comp every year, same group. Handicaps will be something like 14, 18, 22, 22 (ill be off 22).

Any tips? What area of practice should I be focusing on?

Are you planning on putting your names in for the daily ballot? I would suggest doing so if at all possible. Jubilee was nice but it's not the Old.

I am in Rocky River right next to Big Met. That course isn't really worth a drive for but been meaning to play Sleepy Hollow or Manakiki sometime. Both you can usually get a decent rate on golfnow.
