Have any of you guys tried the Titleist 913D2 and 913D3? According to titleist.com D2 should go flight more with draw than the D3. If you have tried it, were there any difference?

I have used Wilson tour clubs for the past 3 years and now thinking of changing to Titleist CB. What do you guys think of these? I've had friends who played with MBs but they seem really hard to play with, even for a 0,4 handicapper like me.

I'm sure this has been brought up before but is there anything more annoying than playing with someone using an oversized ball marker, especially this awful poker chip craze?

God I want to hurt these people.

I agree. I have a friend though who makes it work. He has a red poker chip and a quarter for a marker. When his ball is about 25 feet or more from the hole and not near anyone's line, he uses the poker chip. Otherwise he uses the quarter. As he says.."who wants to look at his manhole cover when they are putting."

He likes the red poker chip from far away because when he is at the hole and looking back at his marker he says he can see it way better and feels better about getting a line.

I must admit there is something to be said for that.

If you are going to use a poker chip or other manhole cover just limit it to long range or when everyone else has holed out.

I usually mark my ball with a Heineken tall boy or a bottle of Remy Martin under basically the same rules. I also try to putt out whenever possible to save me having to fish the dime out of my pocket/bag to mark my close ones.

I use one of the bigger markers. Have for years before it got popular. Started with a Silver dollar. Cant stand using the super small ones, mainly because its easier to take the bigger one out of my pocket

I've never understood why pro shops sell/give away the poker chip-like markers. I have a friend who insists on using one and it looks ridiculous.

Wtf are you marking your ball with a damn frisbee?

I just set off every round with 2 10p pieces (< 1") and 2 5p pieces (< 1/2") in my pocket and use the small one within a short distance and the larger one further away. In winter, if there are leaves and stuff around that might blow over the marker, then I use a long tee peg if necessary.

I have a Vermont quarter I've used every round since 2001. No reason other than 'I've used it THIS long'

Quarter for all putts not in somebody's way, dull penny for any mark that might be near a players line of sight.

A dime should suffice.

Been using the same coin, a Lira, for ~15 years now. Have had a couple scares with thinking I lost it, but it always turns up.

I'll snap a pic off next time I'm at my folks' place), and were given as a gift to my father sometime in the late 80's by a head pro of a course he ran the range for. The club head of the 3-iron came off probably 5 times, the 6-iron is offset, but the rest of the irons aren't, the 7-iron is significantly heavier than all others, especially the 9-iron and PW, which no longer exist, and maybe never did for all I know.
If anyone cares, was at my parents' place today, but didn't snap a pic for some reason. Anyway, major development as to how hobo my clubs were.

10 iron! Now that I see that pic, I do remember my dad telling me that there was a 10 iron in that set, but he ended up forgetting it on a greenside one day when he was on vacation and never saw it again. So basically I had a broken 3, a bent 6, a heavier than normal 7, and a missing 9 and 10, therefore no pw. I had actually replaced the 8 with an old Hogan one that I had found, and found an old gap wedge in the garage that's still in my bag.

There wasn't a specific model number on the clubs anywhere, so I'm having a hard time finding out how old they actually are... if anyone has some sort of source that could have some info somewhere, pass it along.

I didn't look very long but an uncredited source with no real connection to anything said 1980

Yes - it may take a few aims but it is very easy to shoot things like the yardage to carry a bunker or a layup. It's incredibly beneficial for courses you aren't familiar with.

In high school, one particular school district in our conference was the "bad" school. They were notorious for fan/player issues in football games (including guns). Most years, they couldn't even fill a full team and their #1 man would be lucky to break 60 for nine holes.

I'll never forget my Junior year when we get to the 1st green in our match. The kid marks his ball by spitting behind it.

We played circle 8s in that match (can't make worse than an 8 on any single hole) and the kid shot a 72 w/o holing out once.

Your entry has been received.

Just signed up...about 8 weeks til the qualifier...20 inches of snow on the ground currently...so looking to be in mid-season form :-D

All I'm hoping is to put up a decent round in the qualifier...really using this as just some tournament round experience for my two other tournaments later in the year.
Ugh...got another 4 inches of snow on Friday and still haven't been on a course since November. ~7 weeks to go

Supposed to be 60 and rain on Thursday, better melt all this ****

I can't remember a single winter where I did not get out at least a few times on a random warm, snowless day. This has been ridiculous, I am so sick of it. I NEED TO PLAY GOLF

I have one of the big markers with a smaller marker inside of it. For further putts where I'm nowhere near my partner's ball I use the big marker. As I get closer to the hole/closer to other people's lines i use the small inner marker.

Wasn't there a semi-famous incident in which a new player on the tour (either a rookie or an amateur) marked his ball with a quarter on the first green and got reemed out for it by a tour veteran?

Anybody remember who either golfer was?

I would recommend doing a rigorous golf-centric set of stretches on a regular basis. Nothing is worse than that tight feeling after 6 months of not playing. I played my first round since Septemberish on this past Saturday morning. It was a nightmare.

When I first got my rangefinder a couple of years ago I thought the most value I would get from it was from the accurate "current location to pin" yardages. I mean when I see 142 to pin in the range finder, and I know my 8 iron goes 145, then I am golden...

Wrong. The greatest initial value I got from the finder was an accurate average for how far I hit each club. I wasn't hitting my 8 iron 145. It actually is about 135-138. In fact, every club was shorter than I thought.

I, like many people, fell into the trap of using my "perfect" shot distance as my average shot distance. I was coming up short lots and my ego was writing this off as mis- hits, not getting it flush, must be a bit of head-wind, etc..

The range finder has helped me to get distances, but the best thing about it is that I have continuous distance feedback for carry distance for every club, and I can keep refining that info every day I golf.

Same for me with my Garmin - my distance wasn't too far out, but the confidence I have gained knowing the distance I have measured with each club and then using that afterwards is the best thing I have attained from having it.

It's also great with courses I haven't played before, especially for lay up distances for hazards etc.

This was a 9 hole match, I'm assuming.

I remember years ago hearing that Curtis Strange(douche) was giving some new guy an ear full for the way he was marking his ball and for walking in his through line. I guess the guy replied "sorry I didn't realize you were planning on missing your putt"

Google is your friend.

In the 1996 US Senior Open, Tom Weiskopf complained about his playing partner, amateur Jim Stahl (US Senior Amateur Champion), using a quarter instead of a non-reflective penny as a ball marker.

I watched Alan Shepard hit some golf balls on the moon. Before he swings he says, "Let's try a sand trap shot here", and after he hits it mission control says "looks like you got more dirt than ball there, Al". Priceless.

Anyone watching Big Break? I kept expecting Kyle to play up to the level of the rest of the guys, and he never did. It seems pretty clear he just wasn't at the same level.
