regarding pace of play, what's the standard gap between tee times for the courses you typically play?

Some of the public courses around here only spread the times 7-8 minutes (two times every 15).

I understand wanting to get as many groups out as possible for the $, but it also seems that when a course gets the rep for slow play they will suffer in the end when there other options that spread the groups further out.

Don't make many tee times but that seems standard here in Dallas. Ridiculous. Anything less than 10 minutes apart is crazy IMO.

Standard here seems to be 8 minutes. 10 is definitely better.

I got 8 minutes here.

Also, I joined a men's league! I need to start playing with better competition. I've always played in competitive basketball and hockey men's leagues (~4 years ago) ... It shouldn't be too different, right?

not at all, except for the size of the ball and the shape of the stick...have fun!!

so, getting six groups out in an hour vs eight in an hour (10 min spread vs 7-8 min spread) results in ~$180x6 ($1,080) vs ~$180x8 ($1,440) per hour assuming $45 per person, 4 people per group.

Assuming you can completely fill the tee sheet even though your course is always packed and people still want to play, that's $360/hour, or $3,600 or so a day during long summer hours. I can see why courses try to chase that dragon.

I got a bunch of DTL footage this weekend and some bonus bunker play too

First thing I notice about all my dtl footage is how much low and left my swing path is after impact. For the driver swing, I believe that ball drew about 4 or 5 yards. The pitching wedge was a high few yard draw.

Driver DLT 1

Pitching Wedge DLT 1

All of these bunker shots were right on line of my target, but it was a good 40 feet away and none of them covered the distance.

Bunker shot - face on 1

Bunker shot - face on 2

Bunker shot - dtl 1

Bunker shot - dtl 2

I think 7-8 min is standard for publics here in Chicago. The really nice public courses may go 12-15 though.

It was the same back home. The nicer the course, the more reasonable the gap between tee times.

went yday at ~930, and twice within 3 groups behind us the starter sent out a group of 2.

normally, meh whatever they can play through on a par 3.

at 10am on a sunny sunday, when you have groups going out every 8 minutes?

**** off

par 5 on the front had a 4-some on the green, a 4-some spread out on the fairways, our 4-some on the tee, and a 2-some wearing jean shorts pulled up right behind us giving us dirty looks bc we hadn't let them play through.

when we went to tee off, I heard some grumbling so I turn around and said "where are you gonna go? relax you're gonna be out here for a while, next sunday, find two more!"

as we pulled off, my brother said "if they fly their drives into us, it's hour fault" to which I said "they haven't hit a drive in the air yet".

I mean, whatever. it was more the 8-minute groups than either the groups of 2 or the jean shorts, still though, what is the point of having a starter if he's not gonna fix that **** as it happens?

those two guys just thought bc they only had two people that they automatically should get to play through a 4-some. they obv had nowhere to go, and we would have had to wait like 30 minutes between waiting for the earlier group and then them bc they only hit their drives 120 yards into the rough on a 485 yard par 5...

Cramped tee times are right up there with not notifying people making tee times of either a league (when they turn) or of possible aeration of greens.

So, Tiger wants to make the Ryder Cup team

Also, he says he back is fine. 100%

He is just rusty and needs more competitive rounds.

Solution: Skip the Canadian Open.

Makes sense to me.

the good starters at the courses i play would have actually looked at the tee sheet and grouped the two twosomes together

i still think that courses would come out ahead in the end if they gave some incentive for foursomes to play 18 in under 4 hours on peak days. free large bucket on the range or free drinks or free pre-selected meal or SOMETHING.

Agree with the idea but hard to do in reality. If the foursome in front of us plays in 4:30 I don't get my rewards?

Opinions on Lanny Wadkins?

Just watching him on Feherty; seems like a polarizing figure. Good interview though.

A course here in MD gives you a $10/player cash refund if you finish your round in less than 4:15

one of the higher end public courses in Toronto has a 4.5 hour policy. After 4.5 hours you start to get credit back in the following manner:

4:31 – 4:45 $15 Voucher
4:46 – 5:00 $20 Voucher
5:01 – 5:15 $30 Voucher
5:16 – 5:45 $50 Voucher
5:45 or more $80 Voucher

One thing about the policy is that they have to actively marshal the course more than most places since there are caveats to the policy that have to be adhered to. The rest of it can be read here: http://www.coppercreek.ca/the-4-12-guarantee/

interesting way to do things. Puts the pressure on the marshals...right where it should be.
