wow, i thought we (dallas) had gotten a lot of rain the last week lol! I think we've had about 10 inches, but it was so dry before you can hardly tell

I'm skeptical of an Iphone GPS App. Is the battery really going to last 4+ hours?

I feel like I didn't do it justice. I just had my phone with me. I will go back out tomorrow or whenever it decides to stop raining with a real camera and take some pictures. The top third of a flagstick sticking out a lake is a pretty cool sight.

Like I said in the original post, some areas have had 15+ inches. Buckhead (where this course is) hasn't had nearly that much, probably only 7-8 inches, but Peachtree Creek gets fed further north which has been hit hard and then is overflowing downstream. The bad news is that we have the potential to get another 4-5 inches in the next few days before this ends.

I guess the annual Club Championship that was supposed to be played this weekend is probably going to be postponed.

Wow, that's brutal. Lots of work for the grounds crew coming up.

Here's the stupidest question that's been asked ITT, but which I admit to not knowing the answer to - do the rules of golf require you to putt two-handed?

I ask because I was goofing around after my round tonight putting one handed and it was a lot better than my usual FAIL.

I'm pretty sure there have been pros that have tried one-handed. Not against the rules afaik

According to the Googles, it looks like Mike Hulbert putted one handed for most of 1995 and David Edwards at least experimented with it.

I think I'm going to have to try it. I mean, hell, I've tried every other grip known to man, the long putter, the belly, the hammY, putting left handed, putting with my eyes closed, putting looking at the hole, putting standing on one foot....

I use AirVue and when I arrive at the course with 100% battery it makes it about 4.5hrs (I have a 3GS).

On a sidenote, used the sweet 90% return policy from golfsmith to trade in my AP1's for MP52's and could not be happier -- played my first round with them today and I can't wait to play again.

on televised pga events, u dont see ppl tapping in 2 inch putts w/ 1 hand?

i was effing around the other day putting w/ 1 hand as well. it was fun, but my 2 handed baseball grip is better. even though i suck at putting.

so, was playing today and almost aced the 11th hole (186 into the wind), at which point i spouted off, you make it inside my ball ill give u 1000:1 on your money, then Milo(62y/o man i always play with, who is pretty awful) takes the bet for $20, as soon as he hit the ball i nearly had a heart attack, it was right online and boom, it hit the green took a bounce and hit the flag. we get up to the green and this is the result.

Almost got ****ing pwnd.

Check out this scorecard: Link

Pretty meaningless tournament and it's a match play but still kinda cool I think.

I really don't understand how PGA pro's hit long putts so close with so much consistancy. Like how do you know exactly how hard to hit a 60ft putt w/ elevation changes? It seems like even the slightest difference in how far back you bring the putter is the difference between perfect, and a pretty tough 10ft'r left. By far the worst part of my game right now.

Must be really awfull to be 3 under after 12 and lose 7&6 in match play.

I saw a bit of the round from Anders Hansen, it was not because he was given long putts if any at all. 10 under after 12. Fairways and greens and then just rolling about everything into the hole. Golf really isn't a difficult game.

But it was a course in optimal conditions and hardly any wind at all, so it was good scoring conditions, not an easy course, but good scoring conditions.

This is a cross-post from the ntnBO Well thread. He replied, but I thought maybe others had also experienced this phenomena and might offer insight.

Does anyone find that playing with much better players or playing a tougher (than accustomed to) course makes you play better? For myself, it seems to be the norm.

For instance, I played RedHawk in Temecula, CA on Monday ($25! thanks golfnow and Bizup). I'm accostumed to a slope of 120 or so and RH played 139. However, I shot only a little worse than I usually do and will blame that on a ******* quad on a tough-ish par 3. Overall I think I played better/smarter golf than I have in a while even if my card didn't reflect it. In other words, I think if I had played this well on my usual course(s) I'd have posted one of my best scores of the year. I attribute it to a tougher course demanding my attention or ?.

Playing with better players will allways help your game. When playing at a new course a player will often play and or strike the ball better. This is because you play like you are meant to play, ONE SHOT AT A TIME.Without being fully aware of the layout we have to concentrate on whats in front of us......the next shot.At our home club we are confused with holes to come, shots we hit last week, and all sorts of negative images from past rounds.A round of golf is just a lot of shots hit one after the other,it is not 18 holes or a front 9 and back 9.It is just ONE shot after another, playing in new surroundings lets us tap into this mindset.Transfering this back to our normal course is the hard part!!!

1. Tougher courses tend to be nicer in my experience. I play much better at nicer courses. My city tournament as a junior used to be Round 1 at an awful (easy) muni & rounds 2-4 at big time country clubs. Usually there would be a handful of guys shot 67-70 who blew up to 85-95 the next day. Really astounding to me. My scores were always a little bit better at the nicer courses.

2. As for playing with better players, I think you subconsciously imitate their rhythm, etc. and naturally play better. Also, I think most players intuitively put limits on what they can do, and seeing someone else break those limits makes you think "hey I can do that..." When I play with my amazing golfer brother in law, we play probably 13 holes the same. He just beats me by 10 shots on the other 5 because I can't chip, can't get to that green in two, hit some terrible shot, etc.

i certainly don't play any better when i'm playing with good players...have a few friends with single digit handicaps and i certainly haven't noticed an increase in performance when i play with them

Good to hear yesterday that The Australian Masters is now a sellout for all 4 days.No doubt because Tiger is popping down under for a hit. This is massive for us as junior participation numbers have been in the decline and this will be a huge shot in the arm for our industry. Now all we need is for Adam Scott to find some form....any kind of form would do.

Well it obviously depends on where you are at with your game as well. I am a 5 and was a 2 last summer, and so when I am playing with scratch/+ handicaps I play better. But I also played with a guy shot 65 at my tournament last year, and that didn't really help me play better because I was just like OH OK.

Well it is just a matter of practice. When I am locked in, playing all the time, lag putting is one of the strongest parts of my game. You just keep your grip really light and mentally picture how fast the ball needs to be going, combine it with practice, and you are good to go.

I don't even think about how far to bring the putter back, I think about how fast the ball needs to be going. Spend more time on the practice green before your rounds and you will improve.

I'm playing potentially the last round of the year for me this year (yah right), at Eagle's Nest in the GTA. It's one of those courses that is far too expensive for me, despite me having a taste for premium golf courses. During the summer it's usually about 185/round, but we got it for 100 inc cart/range practice this weekend.
I am so f'in stoked to get a taste of this golf course, it's regarded as being in the upper-tier of quality public courses in Canada.

Some of the holes look unreal.

yeah that could be it, i'm a 17 so they are way out of my league...i suppose if i knew i had a chance at hanging with them it might be a different story

How big of a camera can I bring to a practice round?

Nobody 'official' seems to be able to answer this.
