500 is way too many for something not to go wrong. They're a huge favorite. They're probably breakeven/ a slight fav with anything ~100.

Even if you dont miss 1 in 100 1ft putts regularly (though wouldnt be surprising) these circumstances just allow for a LOT if variance.

500 straight with the current rules is a joke. You would need big odds, IMO

I would bet against sinking 500 consecutive.

I would too.

I once tried the Great White Shark putting regime. Starting close and moving out and then having to move in again after a miss. Hard stuff!

Decided that putting was a dark art.

Works for me.

Not really, you don't want to be stepping in your line at all for this bet. You just want to find one dead straight and down grain if you are on bermuda greens, preferably downhill too. If you stay in the same spot you will quickly wear a groove in the green and if you are down grain IMO it would be almost impossible to miss one aside from pure fatigue that will set in. 500 in 2 hours is one every 15 seconds (ldo) and that pace would get tiring for sure.

Should be able to make 500 straight 1 footers.

You should definitely have the edge in the bet.

Like ship said, you should be able to get a groove in the grass from the same spot.

Pretty confident I could do this if it was 3 hours. 2 hours is pushing it though.

If I were doing the putting, I would definitely counsel betting on the 'lol no' side. At some point one would hit the hole funny and bounce out.

I was under the impression the guy removing the ball places it at random spots 11.5" from the hole, so I don't think he can set up shop and wear a groove but maybe I'm wrong.

Obviously if he doesn't have to revolve around the hole it's easier.

Interesting wager. In a vacuum it's not overly difficult, but...

People are underestimating the mental fatigue involved here as well as the physical fatigue. A long putter would make a huge difference vs hunched over conventional style.

I'd probably have 25 balls ready to fire and just putt, drag the next ball into position, putt again, etc. Try to make all 25 in 60 seconds assuming someone is there pulling balls out. In the end it probably just depends on how repetitive your stroke is.

Definitely an interesting bet. Don't think I would bet against myself on this because they are 1 footers of my choosing but surely wouldn't be too excited about taking the bet and wouldn't put much on it.

Also seems rather obnoxious to tie up a hole on a practice green for 2 hours and probably distract the others because of some dumb bet but whatevs. People just can't get enough of them proposition bets.

I think after 372 I would want to kill myself from the sheer boredom of it.

Either way you will never miss a 1 foot putt during a round the rest of your life.

Zimmer: I'll bet some money you cant do this bet if you live stream this (500 consecutive putts at 11.5 inches or further from the hole in under 2 hour).

Let me know.

If you have someone by the hole pulling the balls out what happens if one hits his hand and stays out, is that a miss even if it was going dead center? I think there is a good chance this would happen at least once over 500 putts.

In college, had a buddy one night claim he could bounce a ball 500 times in a row off his sand wedge. I snap took the bet and bet all the cash I had on hand at the time ($30). He won with no problem.

He immediately offered double or nothing which I accepted. Lost again. Was literally cash broke for 2 weeks. He did spot me for booze money for the following weeks, which is the main reason we are still great friends...

500 bounces in a row on a wedge? continuously? that seems almost impossible unless you're practicing everyday for it. Wasn't his arm or something tired after like 200?

I missed a 1-footer on the course the other day so I guess there is no way I could ever make 500 in a row even if my back did hold up.

Wrote a pretty detailed summary of my round from Saturday in the What Did You Shoot Today thread. Check it out and any feedback would be great.

How far (if any) has iron technology progressed in the last few years?

I was a pretty good player in HS and early college and am looking to get back into it, but the foraged blades I played 8 years ago are probably not ideal tools for me right now.

I tested a ton of sets back in 2011 and really liked both the Taylor Made Tour Preferred MC and also r11s but I never pulled the trigger. I'm a standard lie, standard or -0.25 length kind of guy so buying something stock that's used is pretty appealing to me. Is there any reason not to go for something 2-4 years old in very good condition?
