I agree with Ever. That sounds like something the kid heard your wife say depending on their age.

Re: MISC/RANDOM/BS Golf Chatter Thread

Right after she said it I asked her why she said that and she said kids at school were talking about how mommies do everything, especially with babies. Its possible that's not where she heard it, or she heard it in both places, so the safe play is to assume the worst.

Could be worse than simply not playing, wife dependent of course.

It's just the mom getting the daughter against the father. It doesn't matter if he takes her golfing with him. I would just say 'fKKK it' and play anyway, cause you're just never going to win.

Years ago I threw my clubs in a lake (I'm serious) after I playing like complete garbage over a stretch of time and I said I would never play golf again. By the end of the year I was playing golf again. You always get pulled back in, there is no escape as you will find out.

Got back from Kohler tonight, will do TR in next couple of days. But overall, would recommend. Beautiful piece of property, extremely well run facility.

Re: MISC/RANDOM/BS Golf Chatter Thread

Not sure if this is the right place, as I don't usually post in this forum..

I'm a 20-30 handicap depending on the day. Super inconsistent, but the good shots I hit (about 30-40% of them) are really good. I need to work a ton on my short game too, but how can I practice ball striking and consistency with my irons/woods? What are some good drills? Or is it just "hit more balls"? Are there tools I can buy to get me striking more consistently?

Go see a professional. If you are that high there are probably multiple issues in your swing that you need working on. A good teacher will narrow the discussion to the key issues that need addressing.

Shotgunning beers on the golf course is one of the greatest activities of all time.

so 2 9 hole rounds cost 18.22 and an 18 hole round costs 19.11, I would be outraged too.

A more appropriate ad would have been free golf for first responders to commemorate 9/11.

Bad marketing. Should have done more to show how they were honoring the fallen heroes, etc.

Re: MISC/RANDOM/BS Golf Chatter Thread

Keith Douchermann soapboxed about that last night for the 30 seconds of his show I failed to escape.

It's a bit crass but LOL @ the guy getting death threats. People get bored and search for things to be outraged over. Apparently the ad has been going for the last 3 years and this was the first time it hit the national media's eye.

Thoughts on professionals in Club events like Club Championship and Member/Guest?

Being in FL we have some minitour guys of varying talent levels that are members at the club. Should they be allowed to play in major club events? I have mixed feelings, interested in hearing others thoughts.

If they are legit members paying their dues, why would they not be allowed to play?

Re: MISC/RANDOM/BS Golf Chatter Thread

I guess the argument is that they are amateur events. I'm not really sure.

Here's a wrinkle: One of them just joined in the last couple weeks, and is only staying until the minitours really get rolling in a couple of months. Thoughts on that specifically? Different than your thoughts on longer term professional members?

Re: MISC/RANDOM/BS Golf Chatter Thread

If they are a member of the club I don't see why they wouldn't be able to play in the club championship. Otherwise it's not a club championship. It's a Club Amateurs' Championship.

Though I have no idea what typical club protocol is since I've never joined a club. Just saying I totally see the logic of letting him play.

Yeah, this is the position I landed on. It's about identifying the best player, not the best amateur.

Re: MISC/RANDOM/BS Golf Chatter Thread

I know that our club, an ex-pro (teaching and mini-tour) who was working out his 1 or 2 years he had to serve to return to his amateur status (after application) was allowed to play in club competitions on an agreed handicap (designated by the relevant authority iirc) and he obviously wasn't able to play anywhere outside of the club with his allocated temporary handicap.

However, he could of course play in our scratch club championship as could any other member - he wasn't even the best player at the club at the time.

Last edited by MikkeD; 09-11-2013 at 06:25 PM. Reason: P.S. He was also in the top 3 slowest players I have ever played with! Paced every wedge shot inside about 75 yards..

The golf course was just trying to make a profit off the event, what could possibly be more American than that?
