On your last look to the hole visualize a cup about a foot beyond the hole and feel the speed to that. You simply must get all putts inside 20 feet to the hole. It's really hard to actually crush it 3-4 feet by the hole and anything inside 3 feet past should be an easy comebacker.

that is similar to my mentality. not because i'm afraid of flying by the hole, but because i think that the correct approach is to try to make every putt but also try to hit every putt so it's traveling the same speed when it gets to the hole. whether it's a 40 footer or a 6 footer, if i miss i want the ball going one foot past.

so not exactly lagging, but i never intentionally play less break and hit it harder than i normally would.

I do this on all chips. I hardly ever chip past the hole. It drives me nuts.

Use one club less on all chip shots next time you play and don't adjust your visualization.

Banned for two days. Next one will likely be permanent. He evidently ragequit SE recently - not the first time - and the outcome appears to be that he has upped his post count in this forum. In SE there are about 10x the regs so his toxic posting doesn't do nearly the damage it does here.

Really - hands off, unseen moderation is best. But if his posting is chasing away actual decent contributors who simply want to discuss the sport of golf then something needs to be done, and that appears to be where we are at (and have probably been for some time). If this is an action that's long past overdue, my apologies. I simply try to ignore phb and that works for me but doesn't do everyone else any favors.

What was I banned for? Defending the fact that I carry a 3iron? Really? Have you read the thread? People literally attacked me for carrying 14 clubs. All my posts have been defending this fact. A few posters have actually sided with me. I'm not trolling. I truly feel like carrying my 14 best clubs is better than carrying my 13 best clubs.

prohornblower aka phb was ARC's original account but apparently the forum outage last year necessitated the switch. The ARC account was some gimmick that had virtually no posts when he started using it and now it has what, 16K posts? In like 15 months. Astonishing volume. And when half of that volume is flipping out about something it's hard to fit in.

Sad news on the one-handed golf bet. Me and the guy I was supposed to play had a major disagreement/argument over the weekend and have mutually decided that we don't want to go through with the bet.

My apologies that I will not be doing this, I was curious what I would shoot as well. I may even go out late on a weekday when I have nothing else to do and do it just to answer that question.

Real discussion then, on most par 4 and 5 I'm teeing off with a 3w or 4h depending on what I'm feeling. However when I first started playing I would pretty much hit 5i mostly from the fairway since Im always a good ways out, but I don't hit it that well at all really. More tops and poor distance than anything else, should I just put it away and try the 7I in the fairway always?

He came up on the next tee box and handed them to me and said they must be mine since i hadnt missed a faiway yet

One of the aha moments I had in golf was when I realized that on the second shot on a par 5, (when I wasn't going for the green), I usually hit a really crisp shot, because I wasn't trying too hard.. I wasn't trying to kill it, I wasn't nervous about hitting the green, just a nice and easy, smooth swing.

I think the obv thing to do is go with a hybrid lower than your 4h. You might want to squeeze 2 more hybrids between your 4h and 5I. I'm assuming that 5I is coming up short right? You might have to choke up or take something off it once in a while (that's why I suggest 2 more hybrids), but at least you will be around the green.
