I played yesterday and have an observation about my brother in law.

He is talented as **** at golf.

I pound my drive on a 540 yard 3 shot par 5 280 yards and have 260 left. His drive is literally probably 50 yards in front of mine. He hits a 5 wood to 18 feet, burns the edge taps in for birdie.

He consistently pumped the ball out there at about 345. On a 240 yard par 3 I hit a 5 wood into the greenside bunker. He hits a FOUR IRON to the same spot. He pitches to a foot (which he did every single time he missed a green.) I catch too much ball and launch my bunker shot over the green.

Seriously, if this kid could get his head on right, he'd be a top 25 player in the world.

lol.. not trying to down him, but do you realize how many people who pound the ball but cant do anything else, or have much weaker spots. I hope you are joking about him being top 25, top 25 in the world are in a different leauge then a good golfer, or even a scratch golfer.

I understand internet skepticism. But as poster above said, you ignored the short game part. His short game might be more impressive than his long game actually.

I've played with/seen plenty of scratch or better golfers, and he is far beyond them talent wise.

anyone got any thoughts on wedges? i bought a iron set early this year except it only came with a pair of wedges, pitching and gap. so i've been meaning to get around to getting something with some more loft, like a 56-degree to use in the sand. any specific brand recommendations that aren't too expensive? and any comments on what kind of bounce i should be looking for?

Anybody ever golf with people that are complete *******s on the course?

My uncle I've gone out with a few times. Last time we were partnered up with a husband and wife that were pretty serious abuot golf. He talks while they're swinging. Talks while I'm swinging. Gives terrible advice at terrible times. Hunts for his ball 30ft in the forest when we're going super slow as it is. etc..etc..

Outside of golf he's a nice guy. But on the golf course i think he's just satisfied shooting 120, having a few beers, and thinks everyone else takes golf the same way.

Anyways, just wondering if anyone has ever dealt with someone like this?

Playing the Olympia Fields North Course tomorrow. Last time I played there was a week before the US Open and I shot 115 from the tips (7,200 yds, 75/147 rating). Going to play the tips again, hoping to break 100 in a non-Open setup. Last 20 round avg is 91, I think I can do it.

There are strange people everywhere.

I played with a couple once, the woman was an experienced golfer, the man was a complete and utter noob.

I have no problem playing with beginners, and am more than willing to help them get around the course. And give them some advice like, just swing easy, try to put sideways out of the bunker etc.

But he was simply obnoxious, not because he was rude, but he just showed total disregard to any rules and any normal behavior in golf. If he found your ball in the rough he would stamp around it so you could hit it, he once took 7 swings at a ball in the deep rough, so that he could hit it, of course that didn't count. When he said that I could see his poor wife was giving up on him. I kept my mouth shut out of pity with the wife, who was very nice to play with.

I have no idea how he could have gotten through the beginners program and have gotten his license to play on the real course.

at this very moment i am putting off going to play because I don't want to get paired with people like this.

I might sound like an *******, but I pretty much refuse to play with:

a) really, really, really ****ty players. Like, Ones that can't even hit the ball.
b) old people
c) most women

Basically, if they slow me (and generally a friend) down, it rattles me.

See I don't really mind playing with these people. they arn't my favoriote (especially the 1st group), but as long as they have good etiquette I'm fine.

Standard example for my uncle that seems to happen 12+ times a round. 400yd Par 4. I drive 260, and have 140 in. Address the ball, and about to swing.

him-"So what's your plan?"
me-"umm... get as close to the hole as possible, now please stfu"
him-"I wouldn't. There's sand up there. I'de lay up.
me-"wtf"

I've also had him pick up my ball when I still had a 5 ft putt left, and improve my lie after I had a poor chip shot because "golf is supposed to be fun".

I don't know if I'm better off telling him what's up, or just not golfing with him ever again.

Well looks like i have <10 rounds left for the year thanks to ****ty weather. Looking at the forcast temps go down day by day and only a few nice days left. Weather man said that 3 days ago was our last 80 degree day, and we are going to have a chilling winter, even worse then last. And fwiw I dont remember a colder winter then last, it was -10 (-20+ with windchill) for like a week straight.

I am hoping all goes well and this is my last summer here. I mean for ffs, it seems like my golf summer just started, and now its almost over.

WAT

There are always a handful of 80 degree days in September, and it doesn't have to be 80 to be good golf weather. Plus weather forecasters are notorious for being WRONG.

The season doesn't end until the snow flies!

Legal and they have been around.

Note that most chippers aren't designed to hit full shots, which obv limits their versatility. I picked up a Cleveland Niblick early in the season to play around with, and unlike the Adams and Odyssey models it's a regular club, useful for longer shots.

I played there a couple of months after the Open that year, the greens were still lightning fast, but otherwise it wasn't too tough. We played one tee up and I shot 78, one of my better rounds considering I had two three putts and a four putt.

I played seriously in HS, was a ~5 HC at one point. I quit after high school because I was poor in college, now, 8 years later, I have started playing again. I've probably played about 30 rounds and I'm about a 12-15 HC at this point, mostly because my distances seem to have dropped drastically (think 210 yard drives, I hit my 9i 95-105 yards) but my short game is still really sick. Anyway, wanted to respond to the douches on golf course topic.

I really don't mind playing with beginners at all if they want to learn, in fact, i kind of enjoy playing with beginners and helping them out, however, I wish I had a flamethrower for the few huge douches I have encountered.

1) Was playing on a pretty long course with a friend who was playing for the first time. We finish the 16th, go to the 17th, which is a ~135 par 3. There are two groups waiting in front of us so we are just kind of relaxing. The group behind us is a threesome of much better players who have been waiting on us a bit all day and seem to have no one behind them. This being the case, we let them play through.

By the time the group we let through has teed off, we see another group coming on the hole behind us. One of their approach shots hits our cart and the guy comes over to apologize. While they are putting on 16, we take our tee shots on 17. I am kind of annoyed after putting it in the front bunker and that my complete noob friend hit the green. So I go into the bunker, take a practice swing and the guy who almost hit us with his approach is now standing on the tee SCREAMING at us. I look back at him annoyed as **** for a few seconds, after which he says "****ING GO". I chip in from the bunker and am super stoked. My friend putts in and I take my sweet sweet time raking the bunker. The guy continues screaming.

We go back to the clubhouse to return my friends rental clubs and as we walk out the group behind us (~50 y/o douche who screamed at us and his two ~20 y/o sons) approaches and are still livid. Calling us rude, *******s, etc. I am pretty baffled at this point and just kind of quiet, but my friend is a huge ******* and starts calling the 50 year old every name in the book, including ******, etc (the shock on a sons face of seeing their dad called a ****** is pretty lol). So I tell my friend to just forget it and we walk to my car. Coincidentally, the group of douches' car is right next to mine and we;re all standing next to each other while putting stuff in our cars. My friend starts in on calling the guy names again and I tell him to shut up and get in the car. As we pull out I roll down the window and say "I just want you to know that after all this I literally have no idea why you are angry". He replies "you kids cut in front of us". I said "do you not remember apologizing for almost hitting us with your ball?" And then pull my receipt saying we paid ~4 hours ago and tell him we had been 2 groups in front of him the whole time. At this point he gets one of those "holy **** I am a moron" looks on his face and apologizes. My friend says "That means a lot, but you're still a ******" and we drive away, lol.

2) Four of us are playing at a local par 60, not super nice, but not horrible hackville either. The 1st and 9th fairways are parallel to each other with a lake between them in the middle. We had a twosome in front of us who were playing pretty slow, but since there were four of us, the pace was about the same. We finish the 8th hole and go to the 9th tee and there are ~6 kids, 3 moms, clearly not playing, a dad, wearing a Titleist hat, who seems to be instructing them. So I ask what is going on, since we seem to have 6 8 year olds teeing off on our tee who clearly, clearly cut. We ask if we can go ahead since they seem like they will be awhile. One of the mothers says "um actually we let the two guys in front of you through, we can't let you cut too". I said "so wait, which hole did you guys just play?" "the first." "okay, well the 2nd hole is over there." "actually we are just playing two holes so we wanted to go back to the clubhouse." Normally, without the kids I am whipping out the cell and calling the clubhouse and getting the marshall out there, however, it was late and we weren't sure we would finish anyway and just skipped to the 10th. How would you have handled this?

sorry for the tl;dr

Answer to #2:

I would just skip the hole. It sounds like she just doesn't understand what she is doing and it isn't worth getting into a fight over. In fact, usually the proper reaction to all situations like this is to just skip ahead if you think a real confrontation is going to ensue. It is never worth it.

One time some ladies hit ~8 tee shots each and just kept going while me and my buddies stood on the back tees in awe. We didn't know what to do b/c we had already yelled our request to play through, so we just teed up and hit our drives over them, drove past them and played out the hole with no communication what so ever. They were so bad and the front tees were so far in front of the back tees that this was possible. It was really weird.

Personally I would have educated the group on golf course etiquette, and that they were actually the ones "cutting".

What's the easiest way to rotate a video? I recorded a few swings but they are all sideways.

They are .mov files if that matters.
