Royal Hawaiian (guess it used to be Luana Hills CC or something) > Ko'olau imo, just played 27 there and wow, the views/landscape are better and I also preferred the course design. Shot 40-43 par 71, lost zero balls on the front and 4 balls on the back 9 (which lead to 4 double bogies) but they were all in lateral hazards. If the jungle and all the ravines were considered OB the back 9 would be just about impossible for anyone who wasn't scratch or better, some of the holes were just preposterous but they were still really fun at the same time.

Nice! I took a look at the website and some of the holes have a similar look to Ko'olau and others are definitely different (notably, water). IF I ever get back to Hawaii, I'll have to remember to give this one a try. They didn't list the prices... what's the going rate?

Think I payed $115 on golfnow, you need to go through a security checkpoint before the course and the guard said they are going private sometime in the near future though.

D'oh! Note to self, tell boss we need another trip to Hawaii ASAP... call it a ten year reunion or whatever.

How's the rest of the trip going? Are you on Oahu the entire time or going to the other islands?

It's awesome, it's been really windy the whole trip but warm...played at turtle bay on monday, was meh kind of a let down after my first two courses. On Maui now, going to play Kapalua on Fri or Sat, for sure the plantation course and possibly the bay course. Also trying to hit up a course or two in central maui. I'm staying right on the kaanapali courses but from what I've seen they don't look that great and the price is pretty extreme so I might pass on them.

I lost 2 days of a vacation in Hawai'i because of sunburn. I made the mistake of "surfing" with my father in law for 45 minutes in overcast sky with drizzle with no sunscreen. Got blistered.

Being ginger ftl. My back was blistered - I couldn't believe it. Even people who normally tan in the states get abused by the sun over there. My wife doesn't wear sunscreen and tans nicely but she was wearing capri pants during our round at Turtle Bay and got burnt so bad that her farmer's tan line in the middle of her shins was there for like over a year.

When did it become okay to wear jeans on the golf course? I swear like 25% of people on the course are in jeans during the winter.

The people that wear jorts or denim vests (yes I've seen this) are even better

There was a public course in Pittsburgh I used to play where if they were still wearing a shirt they were classy.

How do I fix my outside in swing.

Its about 7 degrees outside in (measured on friends ProTee simulator)

I know there can be a lot of factors to the outside in swing, but any help is very appreciated.

Are you keeping your right elbow tucked on the backswing? I used to have a severe outside in swing that was caused by chicken wing.

So my driver head broke and flew 80 yards down the fairway the other day. Any recommendations on a new driver, or a newish used one that would cost much less?

A proper shaft is pretty much 85% of what makes a driver good, assuming you're getting one of the last couple generations. You really just want something that will give you the right spin/launch angle characteristics.

Then again, different shafts react somewhat differently to different heads.

What sort of clubhead speed/launch characteristics do you have, what were you playing that broke, and what's your price range? Also, golfwrx is pretty solid for advice on clubs and buying good second hand clubs.
