Yeah I know that's partially it, but I've been playing long enough where I feel when I am compressing the ball well. I really have no idea what I did today was just horrible. My driver was horrid too

Tips on how not to do your back in?

I played 18 holes yesterday in about 200 shots (normal for me), got up today in excruciating pain in lower back, thighs and buttocks. Any remedy for this?

200 shots?

Yeah, exaggeration for sure but I suspect that the reason you are sore and the reason you took 110+ shots to put the ball in the holes are related. Probably tons of "effort" on each swing that is causing all sorts of tension where it doesn't belong.

I wasn't counting but was easily 100+.

Ta Keno, that sounds about right.

Been meaning to take a few lessons so I will take a few before considering going out on course again, I think this pain is the last straw.

it isn't an official USGA handicap though
my oob question is does it take into account the 9 hole scores i put in also?

just starting using it about 2 weeks ago, have three 18-holes and three 9-holes scores in there, and the one graph sure looks like it's swinging back forth score-wise (when if the two were just in relation to par they'd be relatively straight).

???

wait that's kind of confusing...basically should i bet entering 9-hole scores along with 18? or does it screw with the handicap?

the one graph shows relation to par, and no **** i'm only 6 over par on 9 holes and 12 over on 18! makes the graph all curvy and i'm just wondering if it's doing anything to the handicap.

It does use 9 hole rounds to calculate handicaps; it's part of the formula. Not sure how they graph thing works.

Golf Channel is showing the 96 Masters highlights. I can't think of anyone outside of Faldo himself who'd enjoy rewatching that.

I might be grasping at straws here but are there any good books or other resources to learn course management? I just shot the worst round of golf in years: flying greens surrounded by woods, not leaving myself enough room to mi****, screwing up approaches (finding trouble or leaving myself 40 foot putts), etc.

Or is it just a matter of getting out on the course more and learning by experience? I guess I can get a pro to join me for a round but that seems expensive.

Or I'll give you the cliff notes:
1) Play the shot you have the greatest chance of playing well.
2) Play the shot that makes your next shot the easiest.

It's an interesting read and a classic golf book.
One thing I might recommend if you have the opportunity (an empty course)-
play a reverse scramble.
Meaning play two shots and pick the worse one each time and play two from there....
It is a great tool for teaching conservative course management.

twisting being different from bending? so during the downswing the shaft also twists? i thought there might be twisting at impact but never knew about that.

so the less twisting gives more a sensation of clubhead stability?

Yea torque is different than flex. Flex is bending.

TSN's broadcast of the Telus Skins Game could be the WOAT. Rod Black creaming himself over pitching wedges to six feet and acting surprised that tour pros can cut corners on doglegs. It's as if he's never seen golf before

585h with 104g proforce shaft confirmed GOAT hybrid. Why did I ever put that piece of crap R11 in play? Gonna see a highly rated club fitter on Friday to look at some new shafts for my woods and demo'ing a few new hybrids, mainly the adams a12 pro or maybe a mizuno hi-fli.

On another note, playing in the rockies is fun. 595 yard par 5 finishing hole driver 9 iron. Finally made some good swings after 3 days of being petrified to swing the ball, finished birdie birdie and don't feel like quitting forever. Target golf out here really messes with your head off the tee.

Thanks - it's getting here tomorrow, enough time for me to digest it before the end-of-season trip. I'll try the reverse scramble on Thursday.

I went out to the range again today and feel way better after hitting. Can't wait to get on the course and actually keep score.

Mandatory watering restrictions are killing the golf courses here. I think the only thing they're allowed to water daily are the tee boxes and greens.

Today at the range I had a totally unproductive session because a slight breeze brought tons of dry dust and grass back into my face with every divot I took. So much dirt in the eyes.

Any good advice for playing greenside shots on a very steep slope up close to the hole? Seems if I try my normal chip it goes shooting over the green and the club head ends up in the ground, and if I try to baby it I end up not making it onto the green.

i recently bought the adams a12 pro 20 degree and it is awesome! its a hybrid but really feels like a long iron with its very small head. however it takes off so easy like a hybrid should. workability is great with the smaller head.

of course not the best choice if your looking for a more game improvement hybrid.

i was sold when i first tried it at golfsmith. first 3 swings were 225, 240, 240!
of course i went home and bought it on ebay for cheaper.

I like using a lower lofted club, make sure hips and shoulders are as parallel to the ground as possible and play a normal chip.

Though I got rejected for the umpteenth time, atleast I know now that "congratulations, you've won practice round tickets" emails exist.
