Post a swing video and there are people here who can tell you exactly what you are doing wrong. Probably has a lot to do with what your two elbows are doing.

funny story:

I used to be about a 1-2 handicap. Now i say i am about a 8-10. I stopped playing a bunch, but we play military courses with my two roomates quite a bit (2x a month). they are generally pretty easy 6500 yards from the tips, my erratic driver doesnt get me into too much trouble. Usually i get pretty drunk, shoot high 70's on these courses.

well my roomates are getting better, but they sstill cheat a bit (to my chagrin w/e). they are like high 90s shooters who shave probably 8-10 strokes/round with mullies taking 7's when they had 9s etc. well my one buddy shot like a 93 one day. and was real happy. They are getting better.

Well i go home, play a member guest at my old home course which is tough, blow a 91 on a 9 handicap (was using rentals). my buddy asks what i shot, and thinks he can beat me, and when i offer him 2.5 strokes a hole he refuses and saying we are playing straight up and guarantees he will beat me. we go back and forth about 5 times. well when the time to choose the course comes, we play a pretty hard course (7k 140 slope maybe?) .

we go play. i prefaced with we must count every shot. I play pretty well, 84 with rentals on a strange course. My buddy obviously was no where close. We know i destroy him, but we keep the whole score the whole way. Upon totaling up the score he shoots....

61-85 for a 146! hahahhaha

That makes me feel a lot better about my legit mid-90s rounds!

That's a tough course you played but a 146 is pretty much beginner level. As in, "been to the range about 6 times in my life and understand the concept of driver, and irons and putter and stuff. Am decently athletic and if I pure one, bro, I can get it out 270 like the pros."

My playing partner last year tried to take up golf (he played baseball with me and was all-around athletic). We played a few rounds and he always shot between like 135-145. This was when I would shoot like 118. I had played golf a handful of times in my life though and had been to the range several more times in my life than he had.

I tried to get him to play with me a few months ago and he said he sold his clubs and quit golf. He's one of these guys that gets super interested in something and buys all the gadgets then is on to something else 6 months later. I think a lot of people go out and shoot 130+ and figure it's a lost cause but I don't think it is.

yeah the 91 i shot was not terrible. I made 3 triples on holes i didn't hit the ball too poorly. I was hitting these rocketballz irons which no crap i hit 25 yards longer than my current set. It all came to a head when on the 2nd to last hole of the day 230 slightly downwind par 3 i just said F it , and pulled 5 iron (i usually hit 4 to be just short of the hole because long is dead) i airmailed 5 iron 15 yards over the back to make triple. I just laughed and said w/e.

Once you use a rangefinder for a round or two, you'll love it. I can't imagine playing a round without one now. I have an old bushnell I've been using for years, still works great. Have to replace the battery fairly often though.

I bought a TourTek explorer push cart a few months ago and love it. Looks like they are $99 at golfsmith.

heh I bought a rangefinder for my buddy as his wedding present. Best gift ever IMO...though his wife didn't really like it.

Nothing a few thousand balls can't fix.

here's a dilemma:

you're hitting balls at your normal driving range, where 50% of the balls are in poor condition and 25% of them are so bald that they knuckleball in the air and do loops.

among this pile of pathetic golf balls you encounter a pristine proV1x, most likely hooked on to the range by a poor soul playing the 9th hole.

taking it seems wrong, but so does hitting it back!

if i found it buried in the rough somewhere on the course, i'd take it without a second thought!

what would you do?

I've taken non-range balls from the range before. I don't see anything wrong with it.

are you kidding!? first thing i do is chk the bucket of range balls for any lucky finds. its not like the range put those in their pile to begin with. like you said its from the course or some dood hitting a couple more of his own balls after a bucket.

for gods sake man take it and say "hey must be my luck day!"

on those laser rangefinders, if you want to get a yardage for say front of the fairway bunker, do you just point the recticle to front area of the bunker lip and fire? how about the back of bunker?

Yes, just point at what you want to know the distance to and it will tell you.

I have a Bushnell tour v2 which has 'pinseeker' mode which you can turn on and off - on it locks on to the pin and tell you the distance, turn it off and it'll give you the distance to whatever you point it at. You can just keep the 'scan'-button pressed and it will keep updating the number as you move the reticle around the course.

I'd been away from the British Open thread for a while and returned to a boring debate about slow play. I'll give my two cents about slow play here rather than bog down that thread more. Allowing faster groups through would speed things up. As an additional benefit, it would become fashionable for slow groups to let my group through during my weekend games if the group of asshats in front took after it rather than Kevin Na.

The phrase, "hurry up, you're not in the British Open" would become meaningless. It would become, "let me the **** through like Ben Crane and Kevin Na let four groups through on the front at the British Open". It'd be good for everyone.

We have a tournament this weekend at the club where everyone is playing from the ladies tees. I went out yesterday afternoon to play a semi practice round just to get an idea of what to hit off some of the tees. Pretty fun, got 17 holes in before I had to head home. I'd be a Tour player if I could play from those tees every round. 6 birdes and an eagle in those holes. Eagle was on a 4 where I hit 3 wood to about 15 feet. And never had more than 7 iron to any par 5's. Easy game from 5100 yards.

If I played the ladies tees I think I'd just hit tons of irons and leave myself my normal yardage in (aside from driveable holes)

3 of the par 5's are driver, no issue. The last one is kinda interesting, and I'm not sure what to do this weekend. It's 440 yards total. Water down both sides, and the narrowest point is probably about 260 from the tee, or 180 to the center of the green. The other issue is that the fw runs out, so from 220 out to 170 out it's rough and pretty severe moguls.

I hit driver yesterday and just carried the crap, and had 150 in. But that seems like a pretty dangerous play; I probably would hit 1 out of 4 balls out of play that way. But laying up sucks, because I have to lay up short of everything, so it's a 3 iron off the tee and then probably hybrid or maybe 3 wood in. I'll probably let driver rip if I've been hitting it well I guess, and if not just lay up.

4 of the 10 par 4's are definitely driveable, hit 3 wood on or around the green on 3 of them yesterday, and the other one I would hit 3 wood to a front pin I think. Then there are 2 more that are kinda in between yardages, like 300-320. That really means 280-300 to the front though. Which is doable if I really hit one or if I have some wind help. But a miss on those leaves some goofy shots or brings hazards into play.

Then the rest are just layups. Par 3's were the weirdest honestly. I hit SW, LW, SW, 9 iron to them. It's an odd feeling have a wedge like that in your hand on a par 3 tee.

I played my first stroke play tournament in a few years this weekend at my club. 3 rounds in 2 days, really hot/humid. I forgot how mentally taxing it is to play in a stroke play tournament, everything just wears on you.

To my credit, I didn't miss a putt inside of 3.5 feet, of which I've putted almost none in the last few years seriously.

To my chagrin I shot 81/81/85 and made a ton of crooked numbers. Serious mental issues off the tee just got exploited in a stroke play format. I hit a couple 3 irons OB, made a few quads/triples. I've routinely been in the 73-76 range all year, and that's with some yippy tendencies off the tee.

Overall a decent experience I guess. It's a good first step towards regaining my tournament form, and I'm glad I played. I hit probably 80 drivers at the range today since my short/mid irons have been dialed in all year. I didn't hit more than 2 10+ yards offline, so maybe I got it figured out. Time to see if I can bring it to the course.

Today was the first day I gave up on a round.. numerous reasons

My back has been tight and I couldnt rotate correct for a while and my ball striking was just awful and when it loosened up it was ok BUT the course was so backed up it tightened up easily... I literally sat for 25 min waiting to hit on a par 3.. then it rained

i've only left the course in the middle of a round once and it was at the turn after a 3+ hour front 9, i was playing fine but **** that. the 7th or 8th hole was a par 3 that at one point at 4 groups on it at the same time

Just booked tee times on Barsebäck Golf Resort. Really looking forward to playing their Masters Course which hosted 13 European Tour events and the Solheim Cup once as well. Hopefully the weather will be nice and I will play ok

Playing 18 on Saturday with 2 buddies. First 9 holes we're drawing what 3 clubs + putter each of us uses out of a hat. Hoping for irons, as I'm still struggling with driver and woods.

Last 9 we are doing that the winner of the hole may remove a club from the two losers bag. We're all relatively the same handicap, so we all have a good shot at doing well. Now, I know this is dependant on the course and the players strengths and weaknesses, but any good strategies or tips for this (or these) types of games?

I would think that taking the short clubs out of the other guys bags would be the way to go. I imagine that it's a lot harder to hit a pitch with a 4 iron than it is to hit a tee shot with a 9. Of course, my handicap is likely in the 30s so I don't know for sure
