does 70.7/139 seem tough for a course that's only 6,100 yds?

Sequoyah Country Club in Oakland is 71.4/134 and 6100 yds. Par 70. Tight course with super fast greens.

It's relatively easy for a scratch golfer and will torture a typical bogey or worse golfer.

sounds about right, it's fairly short, but it's built on a wetland area, so there's trouble on both sides of every hole, hardly anywhere to miss big

Finger sleeves. Been using them for years on my right middle and ring finger. Much more pliable and softer than tape. Customize with a scissor. Ebay, amazon, local drug store........

Finger sleeves!!! AH-HA...I have a bunch of nikes ones left over from bball and I never even thought of using them. This will solve the two gloves problem, as I really only need the right hang glove for my pinky finger.

Great call...

Sweet, I took my Canon G11 and a tripod outside last night and found that it takes amazing videos. I have it in the car and might take a few swing vids tonight if I can get over the whole "omg that loser brought a camera to the range with him" feeling. Hopefully the range isn't too busy.

yes but not unheard of in my experience, i've played some courses that are less than 6000 yards and have a slope of 135+ and even one that is 69.7/143 from only 5800 yards

I do this all the time and nobody seems to even give a crap, so I'd just go for it =)

So this has been happening to me the past 6 weeks or so and was wondering if this happens to anybody else. I go to the course alone quite a bit and often times i'll get paired up with people, or i'll play 9 alone and make the turn, run into a few guys i know and play the back with them. It seems like everytime this happens, i'll shoot between 36-39 on the 9 i play alone, and 40-43 on the 9 i get paired up with people. This has happened the past 3 times i've played with the club champion (shoot 37,38 on front, and **** the bed on the back playing with him). I told him about this, and he said he thought it was a rhythem thing. When i play the front alone, i basically walk to my shot, hit it, walk, hit, etc with no waiting. On the back when i get paired up with people, this throws off the "routine" or "groove" i got in for the first 9 holes. This actually made a lot of sense to me, and made me feel better.

It's wierd, it's not like i get nervous playing with the club champion or anything like that, so it's not a nerves issue, but it's really been bothering me. Thoughts?

When this is not the case, I would say it´s mainly due to two things.

1. The pace/rythm gets destroyed, it happens to me all the time, even I´m not playing with others, but just the fact that I have to stand and wait for 3-5 minutes is enough to screw up my momentum.

2. Focus is off, you suddenly have to be friendly, listen to people, and look where there ball is going etc.

so I went to driving range for the 2nd time after long break bcos of injury and was like WTF

I hit my PW 120metre (131yards) - before it was about 105m
my 9iron 140-145m ( 153 yards)- about 130 before

wtf?
I still feel a pain in my left hand and cannot hold the grip very tight. Might it be the reason ? My putting after 30+ days of break was a disaster

Just want to make sure Im reading it right, you are hitting the ball further now?

Could be you are compensating for the pain in your hands by using your body/waist more to turn and follow through? Do you think you were a big arms/shoulder swinger before?

You went out to ease back in... Easy swing + easy tempo = better ball strike and there you have it... better results.

yes, I'm hitting further now

what you said might be true. Today I felt like I was rotating my body more then before.
I don't think I was (am) big shoulder swinger.

I def. agree with the smoother tempo...I know that for myself, the smoother my tempo is, the longer my swing becomes due to using all parts in unison.

Embrace it!!

I think it's important to say that when most people think "Better tempo", they tend to hold the angle longer which results in a more efficient transfer of energy to the ball. When you turn using your body, the release happens at the ball instead of before it. You're probably just swinging more correctly, and not necessarily "hitting the ball more solidly".

Ever since I found myself in the career workforce I have made it a mission to take at least my birthday off, or the Friday/Monday if it fell on a weekend. This year I decided to take Thursday and Friday off to celebrate my birthday on Saturday.

The itenerary:
Thursday - Going back to Black Bear Ridge just because I was one of the most perfect parkland courses I have ever played. Got a sick deal on golf now too.

Friday - Royal Ashburn - Getting the breakfast and cart special with a friend of mine. Great parkland course too.
- After Ashburn, I'm going up the road to Coppinwood to watch the Canadian Mid-Am final round. I haven't been to Coppinwood, but it is probably going to be recognized as one of the top 5 courses in the country when it matures a bit more.
Saturday - Playing Mill Run - a bit of a ho-hum course, but I'm playing with my 2 buds and going to be blazing some birthday buds too.
Sunday - Dunno yet, but there will be golf.

I want to make some sort of "How much wood would a woodchuck chuck" joke involving Coppinwood, "Copping wood" (feeling another man's penis), and Spottswoode, but I don't have the time nor the brainpower to think right now.

Looser grip = less tension in muscles = smoother/faster swing etc.

Is there a definitive post on what to look for in a club fitting session? I searched but didn't see anything other than 12 million posts saying to def. get fitted. Also nothing linked in the FAQ.

I have never had a club fitting and am considering buying new equipment but I honestly have no idea what to look for in a fitting session. Should I be swinging every club? One reference club? What equipment should they be using? How long should it take?

Im getting fitted in October. Here is the email I got from the guy about what to expect during a fitting session with him.

"Things you need to know: Closed or open face?High launch? low Launch? Draw bias? Total club weight?
Shaft: What weight? What Profile(kick point)?? What flex in real numbers that mean something? What Length?
For you: What is your swing speed? What is your release point? What is your swing path? What is your angle of attack? I have a launch monitor and we go to a local range that lets me do this. (Swing speed, ball speed, launch angle, spin, PTR or ratio of SS to BS)Measure your tempo. Plus an interview. How much do you play. physical condition, age, normal ball flight, etc. I have high speed video camera so we can see release point and swing path.(you get a copy of the video)I will give you a list of recommended shafts from multi vendors.

Fittings take 1-2 hours for a driver only. 2-4 for full and often more than one visit once we start getting into club building or refitting.I may have you take a test club for a week."
