This. I sometimes misscount how many I´m over par during the round, since I rarely pay it that much attention, but I can always retrace all 18 holes to how many yards I had to the pin after the drive.

lol @ two sand strokes and an 8

I never use a card to play unless it's mandated by my club or the tournament. Fortunately I have a friend who obsessively keeps score so I never have to keep the card in our group.

As for keeping putts/fairways/greens I usually just go back and remember the round if I am curious how I did. Usually I have a good feel though just based off how I played as to the range of each stat I'm in.

mbn to be able to shoot close enough to par to not need a scorecard....when your around 30 over par every round it can be a bit much but hey more power to you guys who can do it...one day i strive to be able to just keep score in my head in accordance to par

Any of you guys from Ohio? I am going to be working a contract in Columbus for a few weeks starting in like 3 weeks time. I have no idea how busy I'll be and if i'll be staying weekends, but I'm obv going to try and squeeze some golf in.

Reid Lockhart is down in C-bus and UCbanana might know some courses. I'll give out this suggestion. Its not a crazy drive from columbus and this course has hosted the MAC tournament this year. Longaberger GC They have a "sister" golf course close too and have a play both option. 9-stars of golf is the name of the deal.

If I had the skills to do it, I think I would write a golf related app. It would be super simple. You'd fire it up on your phone if you went out to play on a day with iffy weather and if the pro shop blows the horn to get you off the course b/c of lightning you'd get an audio alert (default: it would sound like the horn duh).

I am in Dayton periodically though I live in Chicago. Definitely can recommend some tracks dependent on your budget. I've played most the big courses out there and can give you some good suggestions.

Longaberger and Eaglesticks are both great places but on the pricier end and it maybe a struggle to get some tee times.

Best bang for buck, IMO, is Cumberland Trail Golf Club. It's on the East Side of Columbus and has some of the best greens for a public track in the area. A little west of Cbus (maybe 25 min out) there is a place called National Golf Links. It looks like a goat pasture next to I-70 but it's actually very tough and always in good shape.

Try to bribe an OSU student to take you to their course. That's the best damn course in the city and a hell of a challenge. Pay a Buckeye student to take you for $50 -- or just offer to get him a tattoo. It's well worth it.

LMK dates, tiny chance I could sneak out to Cbus -- but it'll be tough since I will be going to WSOP soon.

So I played on a HD Virtual Golf place tonight. Short game stuff was literally impossible on it in chipping and putting into a screen. I was real interested in seeing my ball speed, clubhead speed, launch angle, spin rate (which this didn't have) and smash factor which were all measured on the "range." Avg. clubhead speed with driver was 124.6 mph, ball speed with driver was 168.5 mph, launch angle was 14.6 and smash factor was 1.33. It seems pretty bad that with a 124.6 swing speed my ballspeed was only at 168.5 and peaked around 173. The lighting was kinda messed up as it was dark in there and caused me to not be hitting it flush at all even though some of the strikes felt pretty good. I don't even know how accurate this was as the clubhead speed seemed pretty high.

Last edited by agdci981; 06-01-2011 at 11:24 PM. Reason: wrong avg. ballspeed

How far do you normally hit your driver?

I think it was Ray Romano on The Haney Project that said he just wants to be good enough to never had to figure out what he got on a hole like this "1 off the tee, 2 was topped, 3 short right, 4 pitched over.. no wait 4 I pushed right then pitched 5 over, etc etc etc" (paraphrasing)

On this thing my average was 298 with my long one at 321 (wind was turned off and it was a level "range" with no elevation changes). I typically hit it pretty high so downwing I am bombing it pretty deep and into the wind I am kinda balooning it on occasion because I struggle to control trajectories, especially with driver. I just bought a 8* I15 with a X-stiff shaft which I have been hitting around 305 on average in neutral wind situations.

Also, what do you guys think about my launch angle? One of the guys I was with felt that with my speeds something like 11* would be optimal but I wasn't sure..?? I mean I know you would also probably need to know my spin rates and stuff along with that number though...

Sounds fishy to me, so lets compare

...I got excited when I hit 110 on the simulator I used during the Winter. Im definitely losing speed somewhere... I assume technique.. ugh

I really have no idea how to interpret any of those numbers but with that clubhead speed those distances seem about right.

Appreciate the info guys, I'll refer back here when the time comes. According to my boss I start in three weeks and will probably spend a few weeks down there gathering requirements and stuff and then I'll be back in Toronto. So my best guess is that I'll be there around June 20th until the middle of July or so.

really... Rounds played is rounds and total attempts is simply how many times they tracked their driver swings...seems like they just tabulated everything up on the spreadsheet instead of just showing the final results

So they are tracking that stat less than once a round? Because that's what I'm getting out of it lol.

They have more trials than that when they take data for driving distance I hope.

I assume they just summed the club head speeds to divide by attempts for an average.....mathy stuff.

Ah that sucks. I was fortunate enough to play against John Hurley in high school tourneys. He can absolutely launch it, saw him nearly drive some short par-5's
