Sweet, thanks. You're really helpful (and a good golfer it sounds like) so while I'm getting acquainted with this forum I'm really appreciating your replies.
On a typical round:
Par 3: I par 3 out of the 4 of these. My irons off the tee are so solid, it's nearly a guarantee I'm on the green.
Par 5: I par 2 out of the 4 of these. I'm a pretty big hitter, as long as my drive goes straight I'm in good shape since I can reach a lot of the greens in 2 and all of the greens in 3. Problems come up when I reach for extra distance and hit a bad tee shot, or 'duff' my second or third shot.
Par 4: I get a 5 on these nearly every single time. Example: 425 yards. Driver 270, second shot to the green, but 25 ft from the pin. 3 putt. Or drive, second shot just off, chip, 2 putt. This is where I think my putting and short game can make the most difference, as getting it closer on my short chips will leave me with some 1 putts.
The last 2 rounds (only rounds I have the score cards in front of me)
90: two 1 putts, three 3 putts, one 4 putt, the rest 2 putts
96: zero 1 putts, six 3 putts, one 4 putt, the rest 2 putts
I'm totally turning this into my blog now. But I think the key for me is continue to practice (I'm loving the range at the moment) and focus on making better shots. I used to be happy with hitting the green from 125 out. Now I want to place it better. From 25 out I used to be happy with getting it on within a reasonable distance. Now I'm starting to read the green and know where I want to place it and have it run to the hole.
I golf with a guy who shoots 80 or so, and our first and second shots are very similar, and then he just crushes me around the green. Not to mention, each round I probably have 5 shots that are just wtf (either wrong club and way over/way short, or I just top a 3wood and it goes 50 yards). He makes nothing but solid contact.
Ok, enough blogging!
