Joined a private golf league which is basically 10 guys who keep track of stats, handicaps and do a fed ex style point system along with 4 majors etc. From looking at last years stats I am middle of the road with a 27handicap which I plan on getting down to ~20.

We play our first stroke play event this weekend but we are also doing a season long Match Play event which will played during this weeks normal event. Apparently I am getting 2 strokes which will be 1 on each of the 2 hardest holes are there any tips for playing this type of event? We had an extra spot in our 4some and I even asked one of my buddies who is a ~10 handicap to join because the other 2 guys I am playing with our similar to me and I think itll help push me. From what I hear my opponent is decent but very inconsistent (who isnt at that handicap) and I am confident but I am just looking for any edge.

I even plan on getting to the course to hit up the range and putting green which I rarely due to try and help me out on the front which I am usually 5 strokes worse on the back minimum because I do not want to dig myself a hole...

Yeah, I think I am going to go hit some at the local Golf Galaxy. I will check out the newer Mizunos that are comparable to the MP-62s. Normally, I have to wait for the various demo days for each manufacturer because I am LH and in terms of irons Golf Galaxy doesn't have everything (even in indiv demos) that I want to try.

Can't see why anyone would prefer match play to stroke play.

Not to abuse poker analogies, but some people prefer to play heads up, other people prefer to play full ring.

I like both, but prefer match play. Makes my inevitable double or triple not hurt as bad.

As a TV spectator, I find matchplay a nice change of pace, but wouldn't want to watch it every week.

As a golfer, I wish matchplay or stableford scoring were more popular in the US. I envy the Euro guys who say they had "x points" in the Golf BBV thread when I'm in the stroke-play triple digits.

Pretty fun in match play when you can execute some 'go for broke' shots that you'd otherwise not attempt in a stroke play format.

This doesnt deserve its own thread so ill put it here.

Has anyone ever had a driver only fitting done? If so what was the cost? The only guy in my area I could find that does them charges $50.

Trying to figure out if that is reasonable or not for what is done.

He emailed me and detailed what information I would get out of it. Here is the info...

"Shaft: What weight you would need? What Profile(kick point)?? What flex in real numbers that mean something?
What Length?

For you: What is your swing speed? What is your release point? What is your swing path? What is your angle of attack?

I have a launch monitor and we go to a local range that lets me do this. (Swing speed, ball speed, launch angle, spin, PTR or ratio of SS to BS)
Measure your tempo. Plus an interview. How much do you play. physical condition, age, normal ball flight, etc.

I have high speed video camera so we can see release point and swing path.(you get a copy of the video)
I will give you a list of recommended shafts from multi vendors."

This is in line with what I've seen on ads for this service. I've never had it done myself. Just don't really care much about that part of my game right now. I know all of the numbers except my angle of attack and spin rate which I can kind of estimate using the rest of the numbers. My driver might not be perfect, but it will be in the right neighborhood.

I think that's what I paid. Or maybe it was $75. I forget. It was definitely worth doing though, there was a noticeable difference between shafts even with my crappy swing.

Bonito...that's a good price for all that he's offering to analyze for you. Just think of it in terms of time. Assuming all that takes 60-90 minutes to do, as long as he knows what he's doing his time would certainly seem to be worth (more than) $35-50/hr right?

Randomly stumbled upon this statistical putting analysis chart.

http://www.golfputtingonline.com/gol...ng-statistics/

Any idea why the text wildly fails to match the statistics conveyed in the graph?

Also curious what the correct statistics actually are.

Ive seen other stats on this and im pretty sure tour pros hole around 95% of 3-footers, not 90%... Also that graph is nowhere near accurate (plus it is badly designed, the percentage should be on the y-axis and the length of putt on the x-axis.) The text is roughly accurate as far as i know.

The text is more reasonable. Not anyone in the world is hitting the majority of those percentages on the graph (90% of 8 footers?, 60% of 13 footers).

Just bought my first hybrid ever today. I got a Titleist 909h 19* to sub for my 2 iron. I know this is like a 2-3 year old model but I got it pretty cheap used (but in very good condition). I will probably end up putting a steel shaft in it though to match my irons. Even though I hit my 2 iron pretty consistently I like to mess around with different clubs so figured I would give a hybrid a try.

Don't change the shaft if it is working for you. The weighting probably will be way off if you do.

Agree with this. 90% of 8 footers and 60% of 13 footers is just an impossible statistic.

The pros key to low putting average is the superb shortgame. The same area they distance themself from good amateurs afaik.

I think they've been saying that the 50% mark for PGA Tour pros is a little under 8 feet.

http://www.pgatour.com/r/stats/filter/?1 has averages from different distances for the various players on tour. Looks like the average from inside 3 feet is something like 99+%. 4 feet, 90%. 5 feet and it's more like 80%. 8 feet, maybe a little over 50%. 10 feet, 40%. 15-20 feet, roughly 15-20%. (I'm mostly just looking at names on the list and picking the median. Obviously the percentages would vary based on whether you weight totals by number of putts or by each individual player, etc.)
